Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 1/22/2016 & rated 90 points: Dark violet color. This is really smoky and deep on the nose, with blackberries and plums mixed with a host of awesome tobacco, sweet red pepper, black olive, along with some gravel and leather elements. I love the tartness in this wine, which really makes it pop, but the tannins are still quite grippy and firm, and it takes time to smooth out. The blackberry and blueberry fruit is dark but also crunchy, and mixed together with complex flavors of black olive, smoke, earth, black pepper. Stays silky with a nice tartness. But it has the tannic structure to age for a while longer. It threw a ton of sediment, so definitely one for the decanter. Half Petit Verdot and half Cabernet Franc – a uniquely tasty wine, and I like it for the way it seems to exemplify perfectly these two grapes. (1671 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 11/6/2013 & rated 91 points: Wine Institute of New Orleans; 11/5/2013-11/6/2013 (New Orleans, LA): I friggin' love this wine. A blend of 50% Petite Verdot and 50% Cabernet Franc, it shows earth, tobacco, dark plums and bell pepper on the nose. Full on the palate, with fine tannins and a creamy mouthfeel. Acid keeps it fresh. Fleshy plum fruit plays with black and green pepper, tobacco, sage and charcoal flavors. Seamless texture and impressive balance, with a long finish. The founder is a New Orleans native, and he told me he calls this wine Double Shotgun because Cab Franc and Petite Verdot, being the less heralded Bordeaux varieties, wouldn't be able to afford to live in the French Quarter. Instead, they'd have to split a double shotgun house. If you're looking for something a little different, an off-the-beaten-path kind of Napa red, try to find this wine. Reasonably priced at $35. USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
