Tasted by guitarguy on 9/8/2020 & rated 88 points: Very light in color and body, like a Pinot or Grenache. Nose mostly forest floor and bit of berry note.

Flavors are lean, classic zimberry, pepper, malt powder. Think these should be drunk under 5 years old. (778 views)
Tasted by rmalloy on 9/13/2019 & rated 93 points: I'm a big fan of Turley zinfandels, and this is no exception. This wine is still quite tannic, and the flavors are weighted toward tobacco, spices, and dried figs, though there is plenty of jammy red fruit too. It's reminiscent of Chateauneuf du Pape. Without any question, this wine has the structure to age well for several more years. Probably it would give the most pleasure in the near-term.

I disagree with other reviewers' comments that this wine is thin or a "pizza wine." I think it is powerful, serious, and high-class (though it still retains plenty of lighthearted jammy red fruit). (1092 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 2/21/2019 & rated 92 points: Really enjoyed this wine - very much. Ruby red. Decent nose. Medium to full bodied but delightful fresh red fruit, complex but light. Certainly a zin, but hints of a pinot. Wonderful finish. Typically more of a big dark fruit wine lover, but this was absolutely delightful. Wish I bought any of the intervening vintages. (1012 views)
Tasted by Tony Poli on 2/3/2018 & rated 90 points: A number of previous note use words like “light” and “delicate.” We agree, light in color and body for a Turley. But quite pleasant. Floral notes on the nose, in addition to red fruit, pepper and spice. Plenty of complexity on the palate, with the pepper and spice more prominent than the usually fruit forward Turley taste. Long finish. I rated this higher, but Rosalie insisted on the number. I am no longer allocated any bottles, awaiting my wish list verdict this spring. I would love to have more.

Day 2: it got even better. Pumped it overnight, then had it with pork tenderloin and acorn squash. Definitely lighter and more delicate than the average Turley, it was just a delight with the pork. Still had the pepper and spice, but seemed more integrated tonight. (1397 views)
Tasted by Matt T on 11/6/2017 & rated 91 points: This showcases the impressive range you can find in top-notch California zinfandel. Drinking really well at the moment with bright cranberry, oak, and raspberry notes. Really interesting mineral edge to this with moderate tannins. Impressive effort. (1563 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 9/3/2017: Tri-tip dinner with the kids and pups. A great counterpoint to the '12 Old Vines that preceded it. (Should have switched the order on these.) More Grenache-like than Zin, with a light ruby hue and a deliciously fragrant bouquet of ripe plums and blackberries. Light bodied (for a Zin) with an enchanting mineral, saline finish. One of the most distinctive Turleys in the lineup. (= Worth Seeking Out) (1147 views)
Tasted by Y.L. Wino on 7/12/2017 & rated 92 points: a lot of spice and pepper. either love it or hate it. I love it. (1195 views)
Tasted by MillerRoad on 4/28/2017: This is about the first Turley I have had that I flat didn't care for. (1312 views)
Tasted by hoops92 on 11/6/2016 & rated 82 points: Harsh, unbalanced, thin. Lots of alcohol heat with little fruit to balance. Not at all what i expect from a Turley Zinfandel. I feel I'm being generous with my score- my zin-loving spouse couldn't even finish a glass. (1240 views)
Tasted by raiderwes on 10/7/2015 & rated 90 points: not real dark, but a great Turley (2124 views)
Tasted by Martin Redmond on 7/5/2015 & rated 91 points: Wines At Our Table; July 5th 2015: Dark ruby color with morello cherry, rose petals, violets, with hints of eucalyptus, and graphite aromas. A bit hot on the nose, but it blew off after a couple of minutes. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with dusty well-integrated tannins, and a supple texture with dried cherry, pomegrante, raspberry, pspice, and mineral flavors. Long finish. (2536 views)
Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 6/26/2015 & rated 90 points: Medium body, more "delicate" for a Turley but good quality zin. Enjoyed, alcohol not prominent. Will see what future vintages bring from this vineyard. (1880 views)
Tasted by MotoMannequin on 1/30/2015: ZAP Flights! 2015 presented with support from The Historic Vineyard Society (Four Seasons Hotel, San Francisco): Poured at the Zap Flights presentation by the Historic Vineyard Society including discussion with winemaker Tegan Passalacqua.

Medium/dark ruby is the darkest color of the Amador flight. The shy nose is all flowers, violets with some coaxing. Some really interesting stuff here but it takes a lot of work to release the aromas, might be in a shut-down phase. Palate has some elegant red fruit, loads of roasted Herbs de Provence, towering structure, loads of coarse tannin on the finish. 15.7% ABV is not even perceptible. This is an impressive wine, has tons of stuffing but needs some time. A Turley to hide away. #1 of the flight. (3141 views)
Tasted by alohaboys on 12/18/2014 & rated 88 points: Atypical Turley. Color very light, similar to pinot. More mineral driven than fruit driven. Still enjoyable. (2084 views)
Tasted by DavidDay on 11/1/2014 & rated 91 points: Brambly red raspberry fruit, well balance, medium bodied (1544 views)
Tasted by cultdrinker on 10/31/2014 & rated 88 points: The jury is still out on this one. Not your typical Turley which hits you from the start with an abundance of heavenly spice and fruit. Instead, the Sadie is more of a manly, meaty wine with hidden red fruit that teasingly wants to come out and pronounced granite, soil, and lead in the aftertaste. Nose and legs are nice. I'll wait a year before opening my next bottle.
I initially rated this wine at 87 but after decanting the wine and chilling it for about an hour, I changed my score to an 88+. (1353 views)
Tasted by gossba on 10/25/2014 & rated 91 points: More complexity than reviews give it credit. Raspberry, jammy finish. Good quality zin (1478 views)
Tasted by WDSteers on 10/7/2014 & rated 88 points: fruity and light. raspberry, an easy drinking zin but lacking depth and body. great pizza wine (1363 views)
Tasted by patholog on 9/14/2014 & rated 88 points: I agree with most of the posts I've read RE Turley's Sadie Upton vineyard Zin. The best summary for me is that it is 'thinner', less robust than the usual Turley Zin I'm used to from Central Coast (Paso Robles) and Napa. It's still good but not worth the average price. If you can find it for less than $40 and put it down for 4 years past it's vintage date...that would be a good investment. (1110 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 8/9/2014 & rated 88 points: A bit thinner and less fruit intensity than I normally expect from these wines. (1049 views)
Tasted by amanofwords on 5/18/2014 & rated 89 points: Thinner and jammier than a typical Turley. I prefer the Napa and Sonoma county zins from that producer. (1368 views)
 Tasted by Rktekt3 on 5/14/2014 & rated 88 points: I drank it.

Mmmm! (1393 views)
Tasted by Mike Dildine on 4/17/2014 & rated 89 points: Ligher than I expected, but very pleasing. (1333 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
