Multifaceted and delicious. (411 views) | | Tasted by HWgeek on 7/10/2023 & rated 92 points: Coming into its own, nicely integrated with a long finish. (399 views) | | Tasted by InFrom/HF on 2/4/2023: Still a super wine, sadly my last of this vintage. Fruit is beautifully preserved, with notes of licorice and maybe cedar. Our friend was raving about it, it was so sad to tell her it's from a defunct winery. (632 views) | | Tasted by leachriscellar on 11/15/2022 & rated 91 points: Decanted 7 hrs. Ruby/ garnett core, brick at edge , a little cloudy . Nose of iron, mint, black fruit . Cherry, blueberry , spiced plum. Brightness on the mouthfeel; finish of cocoa and light tannins in a long finish. (662 views) | | Tasted by YuriyG on 1/21/2022 & rated 93 points: Drinking marvelously right now, really solid base of deep red fruit with some medicinal and hoisin sauce notes that were prevalent on the 1st day. Settled into having tertiary leather notes on night 2. Excellent food pairing with lamb and overall. Excited to have two more bottles to see how they develop. (948 views) | | Tasted by klezman on 9/10/2021: Absolutely excellent tonight. In a perfectly early teenage stage - lots of fruit but lots of complexity and secondary notes. Classic. (2082 views) | | Tasted by kmccarty006 on 8/21/2021 & rated 90 points: Still drinking really nicely. (1141 views) | | Tasted by InFrom/HF on 11/7/2020 & rated 91 points: The cork was stained about 1/2" up, but otherwise intact. I thought I detected a touch of bricking looking at the initial pour, but not further into the bottle, and no evidence of age while tasting it. In really beautiful shape, plenty of fruit, so smooth, something anise-y in there at the finish as well. I was surprised that it struck me as a little sweet. With Thai food (never tried that pairing before, usually go for a Riesling or similar, but with judicious ordering it worked quite well). (1409 views) | | Tasted by hcnate on 9/26/2020 & rated 92 points: My first bottle of Victory. Really outstanding bottle of wine, all the varietals are so complimentary to one another. The quality of the fruit shows, with really robust fruit notes shining throughout. (1383 views) | | Tasted by joesi16 on 8/29/2020: Better with food than alone. (1234 views) | | Tasted by merryberry on 1/3/2020 & rated 92 points: Just a touch of brown beginning to show. Lots of sweet ripe plums on the nose. It opens with a wave of spices that almost cover up the black cherries, dry dusty tannins, good acid, and a long finish. Maybe not the best Victory I've had, but still delicious and a great value. (1527 views) | | Tasted by klezman on 7/5/2019: Yummy, but hadn't gained as much complexity as I expected since the last bottle. Still tasting fairly young. (2637 views) | | Tasted by smcvick on 12/31/2018 & rated 90 points: Originally unimpressed with this vintage when I first tasted a few years back, it apparently just needed some time in the bottle. Was lovely this evening as part of a New Year's feast. Glad I've got one more bottle. (1557 views) | | Tasted by Buck naked on 8/11/2018 & rated 91 points: Wow, what a difference. Last bottle was 4 years ago, was kind of disappointed, a little bland to me. This bottle tonight had changed my mind. Some crystal formation on cork with a rich berry nose and a little forrest funk. It tastes of caramel and blackberry. Mellowed tannins, smooth as can be. Really awesome wine. Well done Peter Wellington, (1920 views) | | Tasted by qwerty2 on 6/1/2018 & rated 90 points: There's something good about the world, when there's still some Wellington Victory left (although this was the last of the 2008). (1868 views) | | Tasted by bjwca on 4/28/2018 & rated 94 points: Full bodied, plenty of fruit, great complexity. (1542 views) | | Tasted by qwerty2 on 4/28/2018 & rated 90 points: The best thing about this one is that I have another, just like it. Peter Wellington was one of the very best. I can't fault him for retiring, but the Victory selection has just been so excellent that it makes me sad and wistful to know that once my precious store of them is gone, that will be it. (1766 views) | | Tasted by PolarBear22 on 1/28/2018 & rated 90 points: Wonderful!! Second night was better than the first. Deep dark color. Great fruit with smooth tannins and little sediment. Have a cold, so missing aromas. Wonder how great it would have been with full bouquet. (1664 views) | | Tasted by Grantunderland on 1/20/2018: Delicious! (1387 views) | | Tasted by klezman on 12/31/2017: Took a while to open up, as others have noted. Lots of dark fruit and black pepper. Moderate tannin. Relatively full bodied. Still surprisingly primary, not a lot of sediment, and no signs of age. Rather, I think this is just starting to mature to the beginning of a very long drinking window. (2500 views) | | Tasted by manny651 on 12/24/2017 & rated 91 points: decant, decant, decant....this took at least 5-6 hours to open up. Upon PnP nose was muted and palate was bing cherry but you could tell there was something bigger that had yet to awaken. Fwd to 6 hours later, and nose is cherry, spice, cedar. Palate is red berries, currants, peppers, some oak with a loooong finish. Well done. (1449 views) | | Tasted by boatman72 on 12/16/2017 & rated 91 points: Very balanced and smooth, a little cherry and spice, lots of dark fruit with a hint of chocolate. Drinking very nice! Be sure to let it breathe a LONG TIME!! The little bit that was left over was even great two days later! Very glad I brought the wrong Magnum to the family Christmas dinner! (1283 views) | | Tasted by merryberry on 10/8/2017 & rated 93 points: Dark cranberry red. Cherry, spice and cola nose. Medium bodied, blackberries, white pepper, black cherries, dusty tannins, dried herbs, and a medium to long dark fruit laced finish. Delicious, yet I sense better things to come. (1868 views) | | Tasted by rjquillin on 4/15/2017: Solid cork with crystals and sediment. PnP good, but opened up well after a few hours in the bottle; better day two. Solid bottle from Peter with many years left. (2579 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma CountySonoma Coast |
