| Community Tasting Notes (average 86.6 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 52 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by ChipGreen on 8/30/2018: Slightly bitter and hot on PnP. Bitterness did not fade and the heat from the alcohol did not blow off, even after plenty of air. Drank over 2 days, tried with Szechuan chicken on day 2 = no bueno. Disappointing. (1236 views) | | Tasted by rjquillin on 1/16/2016: Open for T-day, well received and first to empty. Crisp strawberry and watermelon with some additional complexity. Likely should finish up any holdings this summer ('16). (2911 views) | | Tasted by brinko99 on 12/1/2015 & rated 87 points: Past its prime, showing a bit of oxidation. Otherwise quite ok. (2255 views) | | Tasted by Tranquility Base on 8/16/2015 & rated 85 points: Certainly, a refreshing quaffable. (2651 views) | | Tasted by JohnRachelWine on 8/3/2015 & rated 84 points: Nose: mild strawberry, purple fruits Flavor: tart strawberry, slate, but also a chemical overtones Mouthfeel: light but strong alcohol finish (2592 views) | | Tasted by iByron on 8/2/2015 & rated 87 points: Pale salmon pink. Ripe watermelon and rubber tire on the nose. Melon rind and balloon on the palate. Bright acidity and a lengthy finish. This (2424 views) | | Tasted by legarejm on 7/29/2015 & rated 89 points: Nice light Rosé. Candy, red fruits, flower notes. Will buy again, perfect for summer. Bonny Doon quality. (1045 views) | | Tasted by ctbob on 7/5/2015: There's better stuff out there at this price point... (773 views) | | Tasted by Jonny d on 7/5/2015 & rated 80 points: Light pink. Insipid. Poured out the bottle in favor of the 2013 Cantina Zaccagnini Cerasuolo Montepulciano. (1142 views) | | Tasted by lockestep on 6/10/2015 & rated 86 points: Randall Grahm Tasting at State Line (State Line Liquors, Elkton MD): Very light salmon in color, light nose. Dry on the palate with just a hint of strawberry. Very fresh still, decent cocktail wine or very light foods. (1280 views) | | Tasted by ctbob on 6/7/2015: as before (855 views) | | Tasted by WNissen on 4/22/2015: The more bottles I drink of this, the more I like it. Lemon-squirt acidity, plenty of fruit, really good with food. Very Good. (1169 views) | | Tasted by ctbob on 3/21/2015: Drinkable and not especially interesting. (1095 views) | | Tasted by DanSm on 3/16/2015 & rated 82 points: Very nice for US domestic stab at southern France. The French make some exquisite rosé, so the competition is formidable. (1070 views) | | Tasted by lifeattable on 2/17/2015 & rated 87 points: Fresh, tasty Rose, even in winter. Good buy for $10. (1192 views) | | Tasted by ctbob on 1/17/2015: Drinkable, but not crisp or fresh enough. Would not buy again, even at ten bones. Better off getting La Vielle Ferme or something like that... (1173 views) | | Tasted by Frijole on 1/11/2015: copper rose, clear, silvery hue Nose: strawberry, white pepper, cut flower, clove Pal: strawberry, white pepper, flowers, clove, garrigue Feel: medium/light, crisp, acidic Finish: medium, light T7 (could be an 8) (1040 views) | | Tasted by ArlenP on 1/2/2015 & rated 89 points: Drank with Witte's. Nice easy drinking Rose, good QPR. (1072 views) | | Tasted by WNissen on 12/21/2014: Moderately floral, moderate acidity, nice at the table, even with spicy food, but not that distinctive. Good+. (1027 views) | | Tasted by TottenCellars on 11/26/2014: Enjoyed this with dinner tonight, I made baked potato soup which probably was not the best pairing as I enjoyed the after dinner glass more.
Creative bottle design and naming is a plus. The wine pours a light copper with medium color depth, no sediment or haziness to speak of. I usually look for a deeper color in roses and more to the pink side but I liked the color on this a lot. On the nose its in the low to moderate category in strength, colder its a bit closed up and as it warms the wine comes out a bit. Primary notes are fresh strawberry's and cranberry, as it warmed I also noticed some cherry coming through. My 2nd glass was a bit colder and a noticed fresh cut peach and red apple. Not a fruit bomb at all and I had to spend some time with this wine to get a feel for it. It definitely was more aromatic warmer.
On the palate I perceived the slightest hint of sweetness, the body is very light and the acidity is crisp, not quite mouth watering but still crisp enough to handle the dressing in most salads. No noticeable tannins. I would call this wine well balanced. Good fruit, acidity, no alcohol. The overall flavor of the wine is moderate. This will get drowned out by a lot of foods. I would stick to a salad or light appetizers if you are going to consume it with a meal. On the tongue it had similar notes to the nose. Primarily mild cranberry, red apple and fresh peaches. The finish is medium in length and ends slightly tart, there is also a thiness that I experienced in the finish that I wasn't crazy about.
I preferred this wine a bit warmer than fridge temp, I found as it warmed the red fruit came out and really brought a nice element to the wine. If it hadn't I might have mistaken this for an orange wine. I think its a nice value, its incredibly light for a modern rose, its color does not say old world to me but the overall palate does. I like this wine, its interesting, it goes down easy and does not take it self to seriously. (or at least the label doesn't) (1159 views) | | Tasted by tward on 11/12/2014: No notes, brings a fair amount of complexity and subtlety and even more satisfaction. IMO mispriced in the low-teens. Very good QPR. (995 views) | | Tasted by bitprophet on 10/22/2014 & rated 88 points: Bit of spice to it and otherwise just a solid rosé (980 views) | | Tasted by Esteban on 9/5/2014 & rated 89 points: Bon rosé bien équilibré avec juste ce qu'il faut d'acidité. Bonny Doon was sold in early 2020 to "WarRoom", a wine production and marketing entity formed in 2018. Per a January 2020 Decanter article - https://www.decanter.com/wine-news/californias-bonny-doon-sold-430550/ - "Graham will retain creative control of Bonny Doon’s wines, but production will change from 35,000 cases of 15 different wines annually to just four wines: the flagship red Rhône blend Le Cigare Volant; Le Cigare Blanc (based on Vermentino); Vin Gris de Cigare (a Rhône varietal rosé); and a 100% Picpoul."2013 Bonny Doon Vineyard Vin Gris de CigareVineyard Notes: The grenache for our Vin Gris came from bespoke sections of the McDowell Valley, Mesa Verde, Rancho Solo and Ventana Vineyards, harvested at the appropriate maturity level for this elegant style of wine. About 15% of the wine is composed of traditional white Rhône varieties, which add a surprising richness and foundation. We also employed the practice of bâtonnage–the stirring or re-suspension of lees after fermentation–to give the wine a creaminess of texture.

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson CaliforniaNapa Valley.http://www.stagecoachvineyard.com/vineyards/our_vineyards.php Santa Ynez.http://www.everyvine.com/org/Camp_Four/vineyard/Camp_Four/ |
