Community Tasting Notes (average 88.5 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 29 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by boatman72 on 3/7/2018 & rated 89 points: Wine is still drinking very nice. Very much the same results as stated in my last comments. Cherry and spice with Forte to make it nice!! What I like is that the Forte is not dominant or overwhelming, but it supports the great taste! (1365 views)
Tasted by foobarski on 1/7/2017 & rated 90 points: Consistent with my notes from last March. Nose is full of spice and earth. Well-structured. (1894 views)
Tasted by merryberry on 6/22/2016 & rated 88 points: Translucent light red, like a pinot. Good nose of raspberry compote and spice. Light to medium bodied, bright cherries, black pepper, soft tannins, some heat, with some leather showing up in the back. Finally, a slightly sweet and tangy medium length finish. Much improved from prior year versions. (2628 views)
Tasted by klezman on 6/3/2016: Scott has definitely made this a better wine. I didn't perceive any RS, although it was a bit richer than his other wines. Light, easygoing, tasty, and a winner in a large group. (3658 views)
Tasted by foobarski on 3/30/2016 & rated 90 points: Eleven months later, the port note is mostly gone, and the tannins are muscling up somewhat. Still very much a magnificent wine. (2669 views)
Tasted by Kathygrat on 10/23/2015 & rated 87 points: Good wine but very fruity (2685 views)
Tasted by Buck naked on 8/15/2015 & rated 89 points: Total fruit bomb with a little complexity. (2234 views)
Tasted by boatman72 on 5/30/2015 & rated 89 points: Medium lite in color, cherry and spice, and most of all - balanced with the Forte. Wouldn't know it was there if not mentioned. Somehow I ended up buying 10 bottles and after tasting it for the first time, I struck a treasure chest. Very nice wine and great QPR!!! Great job Scott!!! (2150 views)
Tasted by Wicked Panda on 5/21/2015 & rated 87 points: It's InZinerator it delivers what it promises, which is a good Zin, jammy but not too much alcohol (2079 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 5/9/2015 & rated 89 points: Last bottle ... bummer! Like previous bottles that I've reviewed. Need more! (1952 views)
Tasted by Wine.woot_taster on 5/8/2015: We just tasted this at the Scott Harvey wine dinner in Wooster, Ohio a couple of weeks ago. A typical example of what Scott produces in the style he created at Folie ŕ Deux: plenty of delicious fruit, a little bit of sweetness from his Port-style Forté, and a smooth finish. We love it with a roasted beet salad with goat cheese and mixed greens. I love this wine so much that I'm a member of the InZinerator Wine Club, but I'm NOT a shill. (1672 views)
Tasted by foobarski on 4/25/2015 & rated 90 points: Just realized, going back through my CT notes, that I haven't had any of this since the '08 vintage. How could I have let this wonderful wine slip by so long?!?
It's very consistent with what I remember from that earlier vintage ... just a hint of port, very soft tannins, lotsa spice. Not as pure an expression of the varietal as an actual "Scott Harvey Zinfandel", but a gorgeous wine all its own. (1601 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 4/24/2015 & rated 89 points: Everyone seems to enjoy this wine. Lots of bramble fruit on the nose and palate with that nice hint of vanilla from the barrels. A nice drinking zin with or without food. (1400 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 4/18/2015 & rated 89 points: Another consistent bottle of zin. This should get even better ... if I could wait that long rather than enjoying 'just one more bottle'. (1377 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 4/13/2015 & rated 89 points: Everyone liked this! Dark red bramble fruit on the nose and palate with a little spice and vanilla. Drank without food and it was very good. (1376 views)
Tasted by Wicked Panda on 4/11/2015 & rated 87 points: Big fruit. Prune and berries. A good QPR drinker. (1316 views)
Tasted by Quaffing in Colorado on 12/29/2014 & rated 87 points: Big, candied fruit zin that never disappoints at this price point. Not much else going on beyond the obvious. It begs to be paired with food to tame it's syrupy sweetness. (1563 views)
Tasted by Buck naked on 9/13/2014 & rated 88 points: Good everyday drinker. Port adds a little sweetness, but not overpowering. (1725 views)
Tasted by bterry3 on 8/16/2014 & rated 88 points: This is Scott Harvey's super fruity Zin. The addition of 6% Port gives it a nice body and sweetness. This is a very nice Drinking Wine. Without the Port this would be run- of- the- mill Zin... adding the Port really brings the wine home. (1772 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
