| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 17 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by SimonG on 2/7/2022 & rated 90 points: Will T’s St Joseph @ Hawksmoor (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): Slightly cloudy mid ruby. Spicy, and a little feral. Good acidity with some bite. Some character here. ***1/2 (748 views) | | Tasted by Pknut on 9/27/2019: Blue/black fruited palate, has lost the high notes and florality of youth, this now comes across as more compact and somewhat foursquare and dumb. That said, 1/2 of the bottle sat in the fridge for about four nights, with no degradation, and some nuances like pork sausage and salted meat emerged. Interesting. Probably best as a young wine. (960 views) | | Tasted by Giggs on 2/15/2016 & rated 84 points: Inexcusably average. I don't want think about this wine ever again. (2554 views) | | Tasted by ashegedyn on 4/10/2015: Very nice olive, smoked meat, and blueberry nose. Nice flavours on taste with a saline finish. Medium legth and medium body. Very nice. (2713 views) | | Tasted by salil on 11/22/2014 & rated 91 points: Loved this. Already showing a lot of savoury meaty and smoky depth beyond the bright, youthful red and dark fruited flavours, with a very seamless, polished palate presence. Time in the glass brings out more high toned lavender and peppery notes, and the balance is outstanding. One I definitely need to get more of. (3601 views) |
| Syrah Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)
Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)
Regional History: Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.
### 2017 vintage ### "The first red wines already tasted in the Northern Rhône promise a beautiful vintage, with a quality close to the 2015 or even the 2009 vintage" - NEWRHÔNE MILLESIMES |
