Tasted by wilypod on 7/17/2017 & rated 92 points: Viognier is hard to get right. William Allen at Two Shepherds is a master of Rhone whites and performs his magic once again on Viognier. This is a delicate, subtly perfumed Viognier, without the high alcohol, clunky fruit, or heaviness that usually afflict this varietal in California. It shares the delicacy and balletic lightness of his extraordinary Grenache Blancs from RRV and the Santa Ynez Valleys. Probably at its peak for now and next year. 4+13+18+7 (612 views)
Tasted by wilypod on 5/22/2016 & rated 90 points: Very clear, pale gold. The taste is terrific at 40 F but the aromas are better at 50 F. Almonds, grape flower clusters, peach pit, lime zest, with grated ginger and lemon coming across on the finish. Still young and incredibly bright and fresh. 4 + 13 + 16 + 7 (735 views)
Tasted by wilypod on 7/23/2015 & rated 89 points: Successful Viognier! Too often Viognier is overripe and reeks of cheap perfume and alcohol. Palest yellow, subtle perfume of light lemon, celery stalk, and wet mineral petrichor. In the mouth there is the above plus some lovely leesy custard notes, some tart citrus, and a nice viscous coating with medium finish. Best consumed on the cold side. 89 + (977 views)
Tasted by MSPWineGuy on 5/11/2015 & rated 91 points: Consumed at a range of temperatures, from ice cold to under-chilled. I'm a fan of Condrieu wines but this lacks the aggressive perfume of those -- and I mean that in the best way possible. Instead of being all "Barbie doll" with a lot of show up front and no substance, this was delicately aromatic with just enough citrus fruit on the palate to please and balance. Plenty of acid, where Condrieu usually falls short. I continue to enjoy these wines. (1336 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 3/28/2015: Loads of acidity, balanced needs air, not a floral or full body style of wine, so it is different stylistically (1158 views)
Tasted by MSPWineGuy on 12/15/2014 & rated 89 points: For those looking for a highly aromatic Viognier...look elsewhere. This wine is well-balanced, crisp and aromatic..but not in the usual mandarins-gone-wild kind of way. I can't recall the winemaking techniques used but regardless, I liked the change of pace.  Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 9/28/2014 & rated 91 points: Two Shepherds Tasting (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): So bright and clean on the nose. Fresh and lively palate with beautiful acid and lots of stony minerality. Elegant, long finish. Another great showing from this wine. 33 cases made. (1030 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 6/4/2014 & rated 91 points: Rhone Rangers DC (Longview Gallery - Washington, DC): Love the peach, apricot and white tea aromas. On the palate, creamy yet lean, with orange peel and apricot, so pure and lively with lingering acid and mineral tones. Not your average sweet flower honeypot California Viognier, this is so clean and crisp. Yeah, digging this like crazy. (1102 views)

This is nonsense.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
