Delicate and soft tannins. There is nothing unique about this Zinfandel but taste great with a variety of foods. (1456 views) | | Tasted by Mortgage92 on 10/15/2018 & rated 90 points: The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like mineral. It tastes like light toast. The body is medium. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. (1490 views) | | Tasted by pgrzesik on 5/15/2018 & rated 88 points: Pop and pour, drank over 2 hours. Really nicely made California Zin. Lots of fruit on the nose initially, after 1 hour, it had some dried fruit, raisins, figs, and some leather. Easy, smooth, and pleasant drinking. Does not taste hot on the palate. You can easily pair this wine with any dish and it would just work. One of the better zin I've had over the years. Would buy again. Still has lots of life left. (1795 views) | | Tasted by pgrzesik on 12/10/2017 & rated 89 points: Initially upon opening this wine - it was a little shut down. On the nose it really was lacking. On the palate also, felt that maybe it was past its prime. Hoping for the best, poured into a decanter for 30 minutes and it completely changed! Lots of red fruit, spice, black pepper on the nose, really pleasant and fragrant. On the palate it was also extremely tasty - a good spice kick to it that you expect from a California Zinfandel. Drank over the course of 2 hours and it really hit its stride after 1 hour and continued to be good. I have 1 more bottle of this left - will likely drink soon as I believe it started to decline, but still in a good place now. (1265 views) | | Tasted by mmcdds on 11/23/2016: Disappointing. Flat and fairly uninteresting. (1307 views) | | Tasted by bacchus on 11/2/2016 & rated 89 points: brought this to drew's bayshore inn. shared with pat, debbie and mike. no formal notes. lots of dark fruit on the nose and palate. held up well to cajun food. (1888 views) | | Tasted by SCosgrove on 11/7/2015 & rated 89 points: This was a nice, smooth zin, not too sweet, little bit of spice. (1554 views) | | Tasted by bklynfoodie on 6/20/2015 & rated 87 points: Juicy, blackberry, and dark cherry flavors with spice and chocolate notes. Good but I was expecting more. (1810 views) |
| Cakebread Cellars Producer website Over 30 years ago, Jack Cakebread came to photograph the Napa Valley for a book and while there, he casually mentioned his interest in one day owning a vineyard to some family friends who had a ranch in Rutherford. When he returned home that afternoon, the phone rang and it was the family friends offering to sell their property. He headed back up to the valley that same afternoon to make his best offer, and Cakebread Cellars was born. As the Cakebread family reflects upon the many profound changes in the wine industry over the last 33 years, such as innovative farming techniques and new methods of reaching out to consumers, they note that their key values have remained the same. Dedication to making the highest quality wines and a commitment to family has followed a continuum as their first small vineyard has grown into a thriving internationally distributed wine company.Zinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson North CoastThe North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties.
