Beautiful legs. Robust flavors of black cherry. Allow open time to breathe. Drinking very well now and will likely hold well for 5-8 years at least! (1497 views) | | Tasted by wconnolly on 5/23/2018 & rated 88 points: Dark, opaque, indigo color. A somewhat medicinal aroma that was a bit off putting. Some plum and cassis on the front palate. More herbal and vegetal on the mid palate with oak and tobacco on the finish. A bit softer with more fruit evident on the second night. Overall impression; round and soft, typical of Sonoma with a hint of bitter spices. OK but a bit disjointed. Color: This is the same color as my shirt, which is this deep, rich, solid burgundy. Edges are still very solid with just a small hint of clearing around the very outer edge.
Nose: Yummy cassis, black cherry, plum, dark fruit, and spice towards the end. Ya know I’m getting some cocoa, but now definitely getting that spice note at the end. Smells delicious!
Taste: Hmmm it’s not very leggy, but I’ve seen better, I’ve seen worse. Anyway . . . Smooth, velvety, rich, and voluptuous, but a short-lived finish in our opinion. Fruit is right there in your face expressing cherries, dark fruits, and mocha-chocolate notes. There is some espresso at the end with some semi-firm tannins to give it an older, but in need of a chiropractor backbone. This is drinking great right now. It’s well balanced and very easy to drink. Enjoy my friends! And Happy Holidays!! (2928 views) | | Tasted by ecola on 9/20/2017 & rated 90 points: Soft and smooth red fruit with a touch of spiced oak. Well balanced and easy to drink. Best to consume now. (3388 views) | | Tasted by redz on 4/30/2017 & rated 91 points: lush full-bodied cab. (3151 views) | | Tasted by Mbressack on 1/4/2016: Dark purple color. Plums and tobacco. Structured tannins, velvety mouth feel. Long, refreshing finish. This wine will just get better and better. Great staining on the glass and long legs. (3747 views) | | Tasted by Arch57 on 11/27/2015 & rated 90 points: One of those good but not great wines. My daughter got this at 50% discount when she worked for this company for awhile. (2903 views) | | Tasted by stschutz on 11/1/2015 & rated 94 points: I drank this wine a little over a month ago and it blew me away. Bold, but lush, seamless layers with chewy tannins, and with a long, coated finish. There was more of this left when we opened an Opus One alongside it, and it still stood its ground valiantly in front of the exquisitely mind-boggling Opus of the same vintage. In short, this Kenwood vintage is a steal now at the 60-80 dollar range, and in my opinion should cellar well. But why wait when it's this good at this price right now. (2547 views) | | Tasted by rickspicks on 9/12/2015 & rated 91 points: Very nice ... and bigger than I expected for a Sonoma cab. At a restaurant so no notes, but it had plenty of fresh, juicy, ripe cassis and red berry flavors. Nice depth, soft texture, good grip and a medium, fruity finish. Not "special", but certainly very enjoyable. (2346 views) | | Tasted by odds on 9/6/2015 & rated 88 points: Had it side by side (blind) with the '07 Artist Series. imho, this one is somewhat more lively right now, but I found neither of them to be as impressive as other wines I had during this sonoma trip. It was very strong fruit front taste, with some of the earthy notes 'muted'. Leaves a bit heavy taste on the finish. The best of the four I had at tasting room.
My impression may have been impacted by the CS at the tasting room. (2043 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/22/2014 & rated 90 points: Some Blind Cali Cabernets (My Place - Washington, DC): Vibrant purple color. Smells of plums, currant jam, sweet pipe tobacco, loam and cedar. Structured tannins, a smooth and velvety mouthfeel with medium to medium-plus acid. The red and black currant fruit is juicy and fresh, add in some blackberry sauce, anise and cola. I also get a note that reminds me of mossy rocks and wet leaves, which I love. Long, refreshing finish with lingering vanilla cola and cedar shavings. Beautiful now but should age nicely over the next five years or so. Aged 26 months in French oak and two years in bottle, includes 4% Merlot. (2193 views) | | Tasted by ecola on 9/26/2014 & rated 91 points: Ripe and juicy dark fruit. Medium to full body. Dark cherry, vanilla bean, forest floor flavors and aromas. Sweet gripping tannins. Approachable now, but I believe a few bottle years will round this out. (1601 views) |
| Kenwood Producer WebsiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountySonoma ValleySonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.
Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries. |
