Tasted by kkleg on 1/5/2024 & rated 96 points: Unique musky fruit on the nose, with hints of honey and black lime. The palate is unctous, with tons of honey and charred lime. Phenomenal. Best white wine I’ve ever had. (410 views)
Tasted by MC on 10/27/2023: PNP. First from this vintage. Wonderful crisp fruit with great freshness but the aromatics are wonderful. We came back to this after diner and even more enjoyable with the Semillon showing off. Really nice wine that I suspect will hold for sone time. A-/A? (442 views)
Tasted by NoahCap on 7/10/2023: What a gorgeous wine- I’m in love! This is my second time tasting Ygrec. My other was a 2015 two years ago; so that was a 6 year old wine and this is a 10 year old wine.

The color is a touch more advanced, but this wine didn’t skip a beat despite the extra years. The nose is super fresh; Pineapple, mango, cantaloupe, and honeydew, along with freshly cut white flowers and honeysuckle. A touch of grapefruit and lemon smells as well. It smells sweet, unsurprisingly a bit like a sweet Sauternes. There is definitely a tropical character here, but less so than the 2015 and overall it’s a bit more restrained, I’m guessing because of the cooler vintage.

The palate is a fascinating interplay of textures- is it full bodied? Light bodied? Somehow kind of both. It doesn’t coat the mouth like a big full bodied dessert wine or oaky Cali Chardonnay, but there is an undeniable weight that takes it above a typical light Sauv Blanc. Acidity is high and there is a very pleasant slight sweetness on the long finish. Flavors are just like the nose- tropical fruits, citrus, a little honey. Still 100% primary. I bet this thing will age nicely for a very very long time. Just as delicious on day 3.

I really love dry white Bordeaux and wish there were more high quality examples out there that didn’t cost and arm and a leg. At around $200, this wine is very expensive. Nonetheless, with Haut Brion and La Mission costing in the neighborhood of $1000+, this feels like a bargain. (738 views)
Tasted by cephomer on 2/20/2023 & rated 95 points: Drank with D at champetre last nite. Tropical fruit and some grapefruit aromas. Somewhat oily texture, round mouthfeel, some honeysuckle & tropical fruit and lime flavors. Solid acidity (which worked well with my bouillabaise entre), and a gravelly texture. Focused flavors, perfect balance and well-integrated elements result in a superb, impressive wine. Weird, but this wine seems so light and elegant, yet is on the oily, unctuous side of the mouthfeel spectrum. Really nice wine. (1021 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 2/11/2023 & rated 94 points: My '21 note still applies so have extended drinking window to 2028. (928 views)
Tasted by Decanting Queen on 1/14/2023 & rated 95 points: I had the opportunity to drink the 2013 (from 750) and the 2016 (en magnum) side by side. In full disclosure, I am not 100% sure which glass was which, although both were excellent and I would score the same.

One (I think the ‘16) was more intense, with passion fruit and tropical notes that jump out of the glass. The fruit was so pure and the wine so balanced and the finish so long.

The other (likely ‘13) was slightly more restrained, although this is not a negative in any way. Slightly more grapefruit and lemon in addition to the tropical fruits, more oiliness to the texture and a faint petrol note on the finish.

Best dry Bdx Blanc that I have ever tasted (1990 views)
Tasted by sh6k on 3/31/2022 & rated 96 points: I chilled it too much so it was closed and disjointed when I opened it, but after warming up it was back to its usual explosion of tropical fruit and herbal green pepper, like a Marlborough Sauvignon blanc on steroids, plus of course the syrupy semillon backbone. But you knew all that already — in short, it tastes exactly like you expect it to taste, and that’s pretty damn good. (1209 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 6/18/2021 & rated 94 points: Another wonderful bottle.
Almond/marzipan aromas with citrus overtones. Waxy feel, über focussed exotic fruits with floral (honeysuckle esp) and vanilla notes. (After 30 minutes) the core acidity emerges and creates a perfect and perfectly-balanced wine. Superb.
In my view for drinking over the next couple of years. (1727 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 12/21/2020 & rated 94 points: Decanted for 30 minutes. A year on but still as per my earlier notes. Fabulous concentration.
I suspect as good as it will get but nonetheless no great rush to drink up either. (1721 views)
Tasted by jordanj on 5/22/2020 & rated 95 points: Excellent showing. Grapefruit, melon, baked apples, some vanilla and some spice. I get a hint of cinnamon from the oak. The palate is dense and smooth. Finish shows some nice crisp Acidity with a long finish. This wine scream purity. (1997 views)
Tasted by Vinogan(s) on 3/23/2020 & rated 88 points: Ripe fruit, sweet (from the fruit), exotic, quite opulent, dry but missing acidity, gives the impression of a very ripe white southern rhone wine - and not a good one. The wine misses structure and acidity to carry the boatload of almost overripe sweet fruit. Absolutely disgusting QPR. (2106 views)
Tasted by Kris G on 3/17/2020 & rated 88 points: Served blind to me, fresh nose with exotic fruits such as mango. In the mouth rather sweet and slightly overripe fruit. Missing the acidity to counter the rather sweet fruit. A bitter touch is found at the end of the middle part. I was quite shocked when hearing the price. (1808 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 12/23/2019 & rated 94 points: Pre-Christmas family get-together for dinner.
As before all the basic characteristics (bar the botrytis) associated with the Sauternes but balanced by citrus notes and firm core acidity giving a dry feel. Immense concentration and considerable complexity. Full bodied, long and excellent.
Till 2023 - possibly longer. (1445 views)
Tasted by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on 7/31/2019 & rated 94 points: Bought this on recommendation of the sommelier. Glad I did, because it lives up to the (pricey) hype! Fresh, citrusy flavors. (1594 views)
Tasted by SonnyChiba on 7/30/2019 & rated 94 points: First time to try this and loved it. Very bright and lively citrus fruit, with great acidity and balance all the way to the finish. Excellent! (1374 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 7/4/2019 & rated 94 points: Grange Park Opera (Don Carlo). Walnut Tree Restaurant - BYO.
Aromas of vanilla/almond, honey nuances and meadow herb mostly following through to palate. As per my earlier note focussed pineapple core and spiced citrus zest. Immense concentration with good acidity to prevent any semblance of sweetness on the finish. Full, complex and superb. Well suited to our lobster!
Up to ten years from vintage. (1254 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 12/25/2018 & rated 94 points: With our family Xmas dinner smoked fish-based starter.
Has blossomed since my earlier note of 2016, packed with vanilla, citrus zest and clover honey aromas and with very pure pineapple and gently spiced juicy orange on the palate. A subtle veneer of oak. Perfect balancing acidity - very focussed and pure. Superb and the wine of the holiday season (so far).
Drinking beautifully. Has the structure to evolve but I doubt can get any better than it now is. I will be drinking this up to ten years from vintage. (1574 views)
Tasted by petitblanc on 9/12/2018 & rated 91 points: Another Dinner with José (Biaggi's Naperville): Very floral, with great underlying complexity, showing cinnamon, ginger, vanilla oak, and an overall sweet/savory quality. Touch of alcohol on the nose and finish, big acidity, hot and mouthcoating. (1933 views)
Tasted by TashNYC on 1/18/2018 & rated 97 points: A WineBid tasting you won't forget - NYC (Mandarin Oriental Hotel, NYC): I was in love with this wine. The nose was intoxicating and drew me in.. Taste of Mandarin orange, tangerine, lots of honeysuckle, pomello, vanilla, ginger and spice. Lengthy finish that goes on and on.

Worth the tariff. Will be interesting to age, too. (2408 views)
Tasted by tomoem on 1/18/2018 & rated 95 points: Had at a spectacular WINEBID.com tasting event. Total of 39 wines tasted with an unbelievable lineup ! Bravo to Sterling Roig.

An exceptional take of a wine on the classic Chateau d'Yquem sauterne. I was blown away. This was dry and rich and oh so filled with dried peach, tangerine, vanilla and then more orange peel. Where have I been not to have had or seen this wine. Bravo ! One of the near dozen WOTN for me. (2160 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 1/18/2018: WineBid Tasting Event (Mandarin Oriental): Lots of white fleshy fruits to this, melon, some white floral. Very pretty wine. Honey without the sweetness. It's pretty and fun. Second time with this wine and I must say I remain impressed. (2827 views)
Tasted by JonnyG on 12/10/2017 & rated 93 points: CellaRaid 2017 (Rancho de Los Olivos): From a magnum. A bit dense and tight-knit, which more time will remedy. Intense grass, tangerine and candied tropical fruit notes, along with some ginger and other elusive spices I couldn't pin down. Nowhere near peak. (2638 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 6/1/2017: Alfresco dinner w old wines and young - Princeton Wine Crew and special guest Jamie Leahy of Marston Vineyards (Chez Walker - Princeton, NJ): Generous contribution from Jamie. Followed the Marston Sauv Blancs with this, slightly chilled and open about 30 minutes prior.

Medium/light gold color. Nose showed citrus, tropical fruits, honey, white flowers. Palate crisp and expressive, showing pineapple, lime zest, poached pears, vanilla. Medium body and finish. Secondary flavors through the mid palate

Always a treat to have this wine, really special stuff. One of the great white wines of the world, complex, layered and expressive. This is drinking really well right now, should evolve for some time if wanting to cellar (3152 views)
Tasted by nchexal on 5/28/2017 & rated 100 points: The singular greatest white wine I have ever had. The bouquet is more kabinet riesling than sauvignon blanc, and the palette is gentle pineapple, honey, and citrus fruit with a wonderful citrus oil that cuts and provides the acidity a perfect sauvignon blanc deserves. This is wonderful. I bought another case as soon as we opened the first bottle. (2022 views)
Tasted by wino_tim on 3/23/2017 & rated 92 points: Pale yellow. Intense flavors of Charentais melon, starfruit, papaya, grilled pineapple and toasted coconut complimented by crushed stone minerality and effusive white flowers. Medium+ body, medium+ acid, juicy, ripe and hedonistic. (2114 views)

2013 Y de Yquem

2013 Y:
A LIGHTNING-QUICK HARVEST
2013 will be remembered for the extremely strong contrast between spring and summer. These two seasons were different in every way.
On the one hand, May and June were abnormally cool and wet, causing spread-out flowering – which is nevertheless a factor of complexity seeing as this leads to the grapes being picked at different times, at varying degrees of botrytisation.
On the other hand, July and August 2013 experienced near record hot, dry weather. The very favourable sunny summer weather raised great hopes for the vintage.
The drop in temperature during the first two weeks in September maintained the grapes' considerable aromatic freshness, and precipitation (50 mm) caused the onset of noble rot on some perfectly ripe Sémillon.
The window during which Y can be picked is very small, especially for Sauvignon Blanc. In fact, in a single day – the 23rd of September - we picked the entire Sauvignon Blanc crop, which displayed perfect aromatic maturity, as well as Sémillon grapes on gravelly plots that were not yet botrytised. It was high time to do so since botrytis started to develop at lightening quick speed, and the picking of grapes used to make Yquem began just two days later.
2013 Y has a similar taste profile to the 2006 and 2012 vintages, with trademark aromas of grapefruit, white fruit, and menthol nuances.
Grape varieties: 75% Sauvignon Blanc – 25% Sémillon

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
