Tasted by ramclain on 11/12/2018 & rated 91 points: Super smooth at this age with well blended notes of vanilla and chocolate. Perfectly aged right now! (552 views)
Tasted by Cathymed on 2/20/2018: Okay (784 views)
Tasted by ramclain on 2/14/2018 & rated 90 points: Definitely decant this wine for 15 to 30 minutes before drinking. Drank wonderfully after opening up, intense flavors of cherry and mild vanilla. (648 views)
Tasted by quaffnov on 10/12/2014 & rated 89 points: Restaurant fare, the cabernet and merlot duke it out for control with the cab winning on the nose and the merlot coming through on the palate. The petit verdot does make a showing in the palate as well. Give it time to breathe, the tannins balance out and the perfume of in the nose fade with time and the drinking experience becomes more balanced. (1614 views)

Donati Family Vineyard

Producer website
FAMILY. ESTATE. VISION. That’s the Donati Family, as is evidenced upon first glimpse of their spectacular estate vineyard. The Donatis came to Paicines (pronounced pie see ness), in California’s Central Coast, in 1998 when they purchased land that would soon become home to Matt Donati and his family. Since then, Matt and his father Ron, engaged in planting the family vineyard and planning their state-of-the-art winery. Today, the guiding principles of quality and cooperation, along with a steadfast work-ethic, underscore all that is accomplished in the busy days on the family vineyard. “Our philosophy is to grow grapes of the highest possible quality, so that wines made from our fruit can meet the quality expectations of our customers,” says Matt. “This requires attention to detail, evaluation of new grape growing and winemaking methods and technologies, and a passion for serving our customers.” This is done in a groundbreaking environment, as the Donatis expect to establish the Paicines AVA (American Viticultural Area) as a growing region with the potential of neighboring Mt. Harlan AVA (Calera Winery) and Chalone AVA (Chalone Vineyard).

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
