Tasted by dalemosier on 11/24/2022 & rated 92 points: Let it air for 30 minutes - excellent Riesling - crisp , great lingering taste after it has aired for 30 minutes. (640 views)
Tasted by td1836 on 11/25/2021 & rated 92 points: Fruity, but not sweet. Great balance. It has taken on a deeper golden color with age. Delicious with thanksgiving meal. (949 views)
Tasted by btock on 8/1/2021 & rated 89 points: Solid, brought back great memories of tasting at the winery. Still in fine form, a sturdy Rielsing, more muscular and forthright than I'm used to. Apple notes and crispness. Meant for food, and we had this in between courses so didn't do the wine any favors. I think this is ready now, didn't detect a wave of secondary aromas coming. (1077 views)
Tasted by jkscully on 6/3/2021: I got lots of nice apple and pear fruit with hints of lemon curd, green melon, kiwi, and cucumber. These fruit flavors are accompanied by some warm baking spices, so imagine apple pie here. The wine has achieved a nice honey-like flavor that goes along nicely with the small amount of residual sugar. You get some nice flinty, smoke, and petrol on the finish. Not super sophisticated, but really enjoyable. Some recent reviews on CT say that it is past peak; I thought it was drinking fairly well right now, though admittedly, I found it a just a tad bit over-ripe on day 2. It might hav been best about 2 years earlier, though I also wonder if the nice honeyed fruit would have been present them, so maybe it’s a trade off. Best case scenario, for this price, try a few different bottles at various stages in its evolution.

This went very well with sausage, prosciutto, and charcuterie—the honey flavors in the wine were a perfect match. Solid, but not special match with Veal Milanese. Really impressive for the price. In fact, for $25, wow! (1196 views)
Tasted by Levinsb on 5/24/2021: Past peak. Consumed four bottles with varying results. Two were badly past peak, two were enjoyable but in decline. I prefer this wine younger with the fresh snap to offset the fruitiness. (1202 views)
Tasted by Levinsb on 4/27/2021: I have enjoyed this wine many times before but open two bottles: one was clearly oxidized and undrinkable; the other was simply past peak losing the freshness and tight snap I like in a dry Riesling. These bottles were stored well so drink up and don’t wait if you have some on hand. (988 views)
Tasted by dalemosier on 4/22/2021 & rated 91 points: U opened the bottle 1 hour ahead of time to diminish the slight petrol smell/taste. Drank side by side with a Te Whare riesling. With that comparison it was clear that the Smith-Madrone had significant sweetness for a dry Riesling. (782 views)
Tasted by Weinberg Falls on 4/7/2021 & rated 87 points: Deep golden in the glass. Nice nose of wild honey, meadow flowers, peach and just a hint of kerosene. Rather flat on the palate, honey and green apple. Yeasty finish. Overly sweet and lacks freshness, perhaps a little too old. At this stage could nearly be drunk as a dessert wine. Poor storage? (772 views)
Tasted by 1961Vintage on 2/23/2021 & rated 88 points: Just a touch beyond peak. Went well with an Alsatian ChouxCroute. (710 views)
Tasted by JCGuthrie on 8/23/2020 flawed bottle: The cork was very dry and broke in two upon opening, and the wine clearly suffered for it. Significantly over-oxidized, it was just barely drinkable and provided very little pleasure. (990 views)
Tasted by dalemosier on 7/8/2020 & rated 92 points: I let breathe for about one hour - worked great. (882 views)
Tasted by ElGreco on 7/6/2020 & rated 92 points: Honeyed nose with some petrol-melons. Honey is quite evident. Palate is almost Chenin-like; honey mingling with plums and quince, but then comes that riesling petrol and minerality. Very complex and starting to enter a more mature/complex period of its drinking window. Really good with ribeye off of the grill. Acidity remains high and the mouthfeel is medium. (977 views)
Tasted by nzinkgraf on 7/4/2020: On Randy’s patio with some Trixie’s for dinner.

Really big acid and pith on a medium plus frame.
Complexity in there for sure at pnp. (929 views)
Tasted by klezman on 2/10/2020: Good and fairly classic Riesling. Getting some petrol notes and otherwise the stone fruit is strong. (2127 views)
Tasted by dalemosier on 12/29/2019 & rated 92 points: Much preferred over last drinking. I find the slight kerosene nose to be off-putting, but it disappears quickly. The taste is really well balanced with classic green apples after settling in the glass a while (892 views)
Tasted by basianov on 12/21/2019: Our last bottle - paired really well with a chicken/turmeric dish! (909 views)
Tasted by Mneumeier on 10/4/2019 & rated 91 points: Drank great. Drank with Vietnamese food. (960 views)
Tasted by dalemosier on 7/17/2019 & rated 87 points: Same evaluation as before - tasted beside the long shadow and it did not fare well plus had a tinny lingering taste. (1020 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 5/20/2019 & rated 91 points: Consistent with previous notes. Paired with medium spicy ginger cashew chicken. Drink 2019-2024. Technical score: 91. Enjoyment score: 92. (981 views)
Tasted by Mneumeier on 2/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Drinking great. (1312 views)
Tasted by Rich.Herbs on 12/23/2018: At first, I was disappointed with the late palate and the finish which I found lacking zip, a bit flabby. But as the wine breathed, it became more robust and well structured. I'd hold drinking this wine for 2 or 3 years, and cash in to its solid potential. (1120 views)
Tasted by Mneumeier on 12/23/2018 & rated 88 points: Drinking great. Will get only better with time. (990 views)
Tasted by jlhkiss on 12/20/2018 & rated 91 points: Took about an hour to open up. Paired nicely with mild Indian takeout food. Overall consistent with previous notes - this SM Riesling vintage is softer, rounder, and more subtle. Focused oily notes set against ripe, tart green fruit. Drink 2019-2028. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90. (1035 views)
Tasted by The Wine Write on 12/4/2018 & rated 91 points: Bright fruit, crisp finish, and that signature petrol note on the nose. Good stuff with years of life ahead. (1084 views)
Tasted by James Kim on 8/15/2018 & rated 90 points: Best after ~1 h after opening. Tart apples, lemon curd, grapefruit pith, herbs, with moderate dose of minerals. Dry with a medium body. Very enjoyable. (1228 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
