Tasted by Lazerlar on 1/23/2022 & rated 93 points: My 4th bottle of this since early 2016 and by far the best. Slow Ox for 7 hrs and was drinking great. This has settled down significantly from the early bottles. Very much to my likeing now with plenty of fruit. The down side is only one bottle left. (587 views)
Tasted by christianminer on 7/25/2020 & rated 94 points: This is a balanced and sophisticated Zinfandel with ample dark fruit, well-integrated oak, and a dustiness that makes it so intriguing. Famed Winemaker Heidi Barrett crafted this wine with care and it shows by being perfectly ripe without going overboard on the fruit. Aging sure has helped with the fruit being more in the background, and more tertiary flavors coming forward. This is a great wine! (1193 views)
Tasted by Stephenlbond on 6/10/2020 & rated 88 points: Past prime (1010 views)
Tasted by Lion King on 4/26/2020 & rated 90 points: Nice balance with flavors of blackberries with a peppery finish. Tannins still a little grippy. Not much on the nose but don’t let that fool you. Still pretty good esp with spicy food. Enjoy during the Covid-19 lockdown. (1201 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 7/21/2019 & rated 91 points: Nice Zin. Good black cherry blossom and spice with a fair amount of roasted character. A little heated toward the finish. Probably best to open these in 1 to 2 years. Can understand the Sub 90 Ratings now but I still feel they are mostly given without considering how long these can hold. Adding to this note, it developed more of a brambly finish with wildflowers on the THIRD day... Yeah, I think I'm going to wait on all the others.... (1277 views)
Tasted by Lazerlar on 5/4/2019 & rated 92 points: My last visit with this wine was 3 years ago at which point my impression was one of this needed at least 3 years to hibernate and settle down for my pallet. Today's pour was a delight, a little tannin still resides but this is a wine in great balance and a delight to enjoy now. (1043 views)
Tasted by knorthrip on 3/6/2019 & rated 90 points: Developing wine with notes of blackberry, plum, and raspberry, leather, pink flowers, herbs, pepper, and baking spice. Still has grippy tannins and high alcohol content without seeming overly “hot.” (855 views)
Tasted by apg23 on 11/24/2018 & rated 91 points: Great Zinfandel. Smells of leather and tobacco. The fruit is great and it is not overpowering. (443 views)
Tasted by knorthrip on 12/21/2017 & rated 91 points: Brambly blackberry and cassis with sage, earth, and floral notes. Big and rich but very nice. (1471 views)
Tasted by Chappy55 on 11/6/2017 & rated 87 points: Quite good! (1468 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 6/19/2017: Terrific people and a beautiful property. This zin is well made (clean, alcohol in line with the other components, etc.), but in a more savory profile than I tend to favor nowadays. (1881 views)
Tasted by MXL on 4/20/2017 & rated 93 points: To date, one of the Best Zins I've ever had. (1636 views)
Tasted by zaven1 on 1/21/2017 & rated 91 points: Went very well with red wine braised short ribs. (1665 views)
Tasted by justinbrilman on 10/4/2016 & rated 90 points: Big dark fruit with nice balance of acidity and tannin but still a little hot. Another 1-2 years in bottle. (1547 views)
Tasted by TGinGA on 7/24/2016 & rated 97 points: Very well balanced, dark fruits and complex tannins (1737 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 1/8/2016: Enjoyed tonight with dinner. Popped and poured a light purple hue. The wine had a mild translucency when pouring, but appeared thicker in the glass. The nose was graham cracker and purple fruit. The entry was medium to full bodied wine. Not overly jammy. Not very acidic on the opening. Nice slightly earthy but very expressive notes of lilac, black cherry. Nice youthful fruit on the front without much dirt. Entry of this wine is quite soft. The middle of this wine turned a little darker to figs and earth and this is where, if allowed to sit on the palate, the wine takes on a little more earthiness. The finish has a little bit of heat, medium tannin, and black pepper spice. Finish toned down quite a bit with homemade pizza. This is not a "drink now" zin per se, but it's not one you can lay down for decades either. Drink 2015-2018. (1099 views)
Tasted by Bhydvm on 12/16/2015 & rated 93 points: Popped and Poured....spicy out of the glass, then turns silky and full flavored with a nice long finish...even better the 2nd day...excellent Howell Mountain Zin! (1798 views)
Tasted by mrpat56 on 11/14/2015 & rated 91 points: Blackberry blueberry cherry briar. Moderate oak. Very good. Too young Wait a few years (1637 views)
Tasted by knorthrip on 8/13/2015 & rated 91 points: Really shouldn't have opened a second one this young, but its good. Takes a while to open up. Big, brambly with dark fruit, cedar, and pepper. Still has some green notes. (1582 views)
Tasted by dfldgirl94 on 2/22/2015 & rated 92 points: Terrific full-bodied Zinfandel with lots of dark fruit flavors. Enjoyed very much! (1618 views)
Tasted by stconner on 2/3/2015 & rated 92 points: Very young and would recommend waiting a couple of years before consuming. Needs to be decanted for a couple of hours for the wine to open up some. Nice fruit and has lots of pepper on the finish. (1382 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
