Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 66 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by wineappreciation on 8/21/2023 & rated 92 points: Milld but firm nose of black cherry, fig, and chocolate; full, sleek, expansive, balanced and long, some grip and slightly closed still but very good (772 views)
Tasted by Mark van Delft on 2/3/2023 & rated 90 points: Nice expression of Sangiovese acidity: light to medium body, cherry, tobacco leaf, prune, leather, raspberry, soft plum, cranberry, nice acidic finish. (1180 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 5/13/2022: Another lovely bottle. Delicious; still with plenty of time ahead. (1649 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 12/26/2021: Boxing day at NY Verden: Almost no one was in Tuscany for this. For a warm vintage this was remarkably restrained, light on its feet with very pure dark cherry fruit. Lovely wine with silky tannins and an elegant, saline finish. (2519 views)
Tasted by chcook on 12/23/2021: From magnum. My goodness this is good. This has plenty of life ahead, but the fruit density balances the structure right now and it was easy to drink now...even from a larger format. drink or hold (2004 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 1/23/2021 & rated 91 points: Very earth and minty sangiovese. Missed some cherry fruit. (2400 views)
Tasted by Finare Vinare on 9/11/2020 & rated 89 points: Ageing has brought out the smell of petrol that sometimes can be felt in Sangiovese from warmer vintages or locations, which isn't likely to go away with further ageing. Except for this flaw, it's a well-balanced Montevertine at 13 % abv. (2917 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 8/11/2020: This was another excellent bottle of my favorite sangiovese. The nose is beautiful with cherry, raspberry, anise, mint, floral notes, and fresh loam. The palate is fresh and vibrant, but has good concentration, especially for the vintage. Still some tannins that lurk, but they disappear quickly with food. Seems to have at least another decade to me and continues to drink well now. (2084 views)
Tasted by EMAZurich on 3/21/2020 & rated 92 points: Sehr dunkles Ziegelrot, kristallklar, etwas transparent. Deutlicher, breiter Wasserrand. Etwas sehr reife Nase, leicht oxidativer Eindruck, dörrfruchtig.

Ganz, ganz toll! Heute 92 (2356 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 10/14/2019: Lovely bottle of this; took about 15 minutes to open up; then shows the classic Montevertine purity of red berry fruit, fennel bulb, anise seed, worn leather, damp earth, a hint of tobacco, and just a touch of mint. The palate is good, but definitely needs food; the tannins are still definitely noticeable, but move to the background with food. Still developing and should drink well for another decade. (2615 views)
Tasted by aekenback on 9/7/2019 & rated 93 points: Elegant and floral, but with a backbone of meat, iron and herbs. Lovely wine, in a good spot at the moment. (2018 views)
Tasted by Louvin on 7/10/2019 & rated 91 points: short decant, this was much better than I remember, lovely darker fruit but still the internal sweetness that makes this what it is. Will last a long time as the acid and tannins are firmly in place. (2115 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 5/27/2019: Typically delicious (2129 views)
Tasted by KimHartman on 2/9/2019 & rated 92 points: This bottle was more developed than the previous ones. Lovely! (2260 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 12/25/2018: Great (1984 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 11/2/2018: Pure and elegant and wonderful. Goes down like water. (2381 views)
Tasted by ESTEELE90 on 6/9/2018: Pnp. Pours a transparent ruby red in the glass. Nose and palate show perfumed high toned red fruits, spicy vanillin oak, bitter cherry pits, hints of dry warm earth, and new leather. Good weight, good acid, grainy tannins. Will smooth out its edges in the next few years and gain some complexity. Still very pleasurable and delicious right now. (2707 views)
Tasted by fred o. on 6/9/2018: dark ruby color. nose dark cherry. palate bright red cherries, iron/mineral core, tannic finish; surprisingly light bodied. good with a charred steak, still young I think. 91 pts (2697 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 12/3/2017 & rated 92 points: My final bottle, out of 4 I purchased. I was disappointed in the 3rd one, but this was much better. A refreshing acidity and freshness. It was the group favorite. (2820 views)
Tasted by jnewman77 on 11/12/2017 flawed bottle: Corked... (2773 views)
Tasted by jrick on 9/23/2017 & rated 89 points: Elegant and floral, but without that special something to make my heart tingle. Really unlike any other sangiovese I have had (this being my first Montevertine IGT), it doesn't have the charms of a good Chianti or the power of a Brunello and seems a bit muted, like it needs to mature more. Will give this wine another try with a different vintage because on paper I should have liked it. (2860 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 8/9/2017 & rated 89 points: Less acidity than my previous bottles of this. It seemed almost heavy. Maybe its in a dumb phase? (2925 views)
Tasted by KJD45$ on 6/3/2017 & rated 90 points: Color pours pale red in decanter but deeper in the glass..
Light/medium body..... First off....ITS A FOOD WINE.... Don't drink without an Italian dish...nose is light berry, earthy, slight licorice..
Flavor is light strawberry champagne on ice....that's the way I like it.
Cherry raspberry plum mixed.... Very good wine...feel that it needs more time and not up to the 2011 vintage at this point.. (3201 views)
Tasted by chcook on 5/11/2017: Drinks well now, even better on night 2 when it picked up some weight. Structure is both acid and tannin and properly balanced w the fruit. Some miles ahead but delicious now too (2746 views)
Tasted by ews3 on 3/5/2017 & rated 91 points: nice black fruit and tar. purple flowers. fresh acids. nice fresh finish. (2945 views)

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
