(1210 views) | | Tasted by mobile_vito on 4/12/2020 & rated 91 points: Still drinking well. Very smooth with little tannins. Bold dark fruit taste. (1208 views) | | Tasted by kmicho on 6/30/2019 & rated 92 points: Favorite. Syrah. Period. Realize it's not a $40-60 Syrah, but for $20, this is a tremendous bottle of wine. QPR in my opinion is through the roof. The nose is bold, but rich smooth. It does not "bite" the sinuses when you really explore it closely. Palate is rich, muddled berries, oak, butter. Exceptionally smooth. I would like a little more tannin and just a little acidity. Both are pretty much non-existent at this point on this wine, but otherwise, wow. (1228 views) | | Tasted by BaylinBoy on 12/20/2017 & rated 88 points: Big Smoky with lots of warm red fruit, but nice herbal, Green-briar notes on finish. Beautiful purple tint, solid body that sticks to the glass. This is made for meat, drinking wonderfully now. T (1361 views) | | Tasted by Jettoy1992 on 8/3/2017 & rated 89 points: Really good right now (1337 views) | | Tasted by Janstan on 10/20/2016 & rated 88 points: Reliably good wine. Dark fruit, black raspberries. Went well with meatloaf (1588 views) | | Tasted by pdev on 10/18/2016 & rated 87 points: lemon marange, plum, smoky oak, sweet fruit, sweet vanilla, with a edgy green finish. The balance is good, nice spice, black pepper, baking spice, bacon. (1492 views) | | Tasted by Martin Redmond on 9/28/2016 & rated 87 points: Opaque violet color with black fruit, white pepper, olive tapenade, cacao and a hint bacon fat aromas. The wine shows a bit of heat on the nose. On the palate it's full-bodied and fruit forward with solid acidity, well integrated velvety tannins, an appealing texture with blackberry jam, black currant, spice and bittersweet chocolate flavors. Medium finish. Not my preferred style of Syrah, but damned tasty!14.9% abv (1303 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 9/28/2016 & rated 86 points: Lodi Wine: Deep, extracted purple color. Smells of dark plums, blackberries and saucy currants, along with barbecue smoke and dark chocolate notes. Full-bodied with fleshy and approachable tannins and medium-low acidity (which helps a bit) — this is a bold and unsubtle wine with plenty of flavor. Packed with roasted plums and blackberry jam, along with an interesting mix of mesquite, pepper, chocolate and cedar. A richly delicious Syrah for near-term consumption. (1572 views) | | Tasted by Hollyadavidson on 8/29/2016 & rated 88 points: Bought at Safeway, $18 Nose: bacon, tabacco, campfire, berry jam Taste: berry, spice, pepper, smokey, slight tannin, jammy, bacon finish 4 of 5 stars (1277 views) | | Tasted by Glenn92 on 8/18/2016 & rated 90 points: Plum nose with jammy French oak Up front with a ton of spices and flavors Anise, violets, tons of spices This is a big Syrah and needs foods FULL bodied wine, but the right fruit mixture Not a wine for the light hearted. (955 views) | | Tasted by edog77 on 6/4/2016 & rated 86 points: Strawberry sauce, stewed plum, tobacco spice. Hedonistic cali syrah, enjoy. (1066 views) | | Tasted by Merky_Waters on 3/20/2016 & rated 86 points: Unbalanced and new world but enjoyable for a certain audience. more "shiraz" than "Syrah"
Big but flabby structure. Creamy full body, low acid, chewy texture, round tannins with a little heat on the tail end.
nose and palate of new french oak, dark chocolate, woodsmoke and candied black fruit. a whiff of mocha and and salty meats not unusual in new world syrah.
the fruit seems over extracted and a little sappy while the oak is a bit cloying. i dig the dusty tannins but overall this is a manipulated crowd pleasing style at a higher than avg. price point.
I rate 86 for fans of Earthquake or Prisoner but very commercial in style. (1226 views) | | Tasted by jmcmchi on 2/21/2016: Muted aromas, pleasant; nice black spice on palate, juicy finish (1141 views) | | Tasted by dsamuelson on 1/28/2016 & rated 83 points: At first taste it was good but the flavor was short on the finish. Did not improve with time in the glass. (1260 views) | | Tasted by wdlohr on 12/5/2015 & rated 88 points: Rich but a little disconnected. Sharp at the end. Rich taste out of balance front heavy (1194 views) | | Tasted by Glenb on 11/18/2015 & rated 87 points: Nose: coffee bean, dark cherries and grilled meat Taste: fruit forward while it coats mouth nice. Oakiness with good spice. Low tannin (1348 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

Sunset Wine Club notes: The winery is owned and lovingly operated by Steve and Lori Felten, fifth-generation grape growers and the latest in the line of stewards of the family's 15 vineyards. Zinfandel dominates their production (with a small amount of Syrah added to the lineup in 2001) and is integral to the family's history .... Syrah Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)
Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Valley The Central California Winegrowers (Official site) | Central Valley (California Wine Institute)Lodi Lodi Woodbridge Winegrape Commission | Lodi District Grape Growers Association |
