Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 20 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Ayanami on 1/27/2024 & rated 91 points: Trending towards honeyed lemon, with a hint of toast. (80 views)
Tasted by Michael Hung on 5/29/2022 & rated 89 points: Champagne Blind Tasting 5/29/22 (Jackie's House): Tasted blind along with seven other Champagnes between 10 people. Prices ranging from $15-180.

Somewhere in between the Jacqueline Leonne and Dom Perignon in terms of styling. Fairly balanced, lacking in intensity. Not very memorable, but not a bad brut, quite decent overall. 89 pts (845 views)

Tasted by acheng on 2/4/2020: This one is correct. Better than I recall from last time. (1451 views)
Tasted by mrmikemtr on 2/1/2020 & rated 90 points: Gift. Apple, chalk, slight minerality. Served at Chandeleur. (1422 views)
Tasted by 1W2T on 5/24/2019 & rated 85 points: Imponerade inte, behöver inte köpa fler (1669 views)
Tasted by garambler on 8/5/2018 & rated 92 points: This had a rich and expressive bouquet of pear, brioche, lemon, almond and mineral aromas. The palate was rich, complex and dry with flavors of pear, nectarine, lemon, almond and chalky minerals. (1436 views)
Tasted by acheng on 2/15/2018 & rated 90 points: Slight oxidized nose adds intrigue to this champagne. (1411 views)
Tasted by thewiz on 2/2/2018 & rated 90 points: Yellow colour with fine bubbles. Youthful on the nose with bread, citrus and a nice autolytical character. Fresh on the palate with a distinct lemon bitterness that last a long time. This is maybe not as nuanced and fruity as other 2008s, but mainly dominated by the lovely acidity of the vintage for the time being. But with extra cellar time I believe this should be really nice! (Probably best 2018-2033) (825 views)
Tasted by thewiz on 5/15/2017 & rated 90 points: Champagnemiddag med FVL (Restaurang Hantverket): Lovely youthful nose showing hazelnuts, minerals and citrus flowers. Fresh and smooth palate with a distinct lime peel finish. Already accessible and drinking well, but with potential for a long future ahead. Best 2018-2033. (1625 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 1/24/2017 & rated 93 points: Citrus, apple, florals, and baked bread nose with a Fino minerality. Fruity and bright with a fresh, lemony acidity. Long, apple blossom finish.
4.5/5 (1593 views)
Tasted by Christine Havens on 10/9/2016 & rated 92 points: According to the producer, 2008 was their best vintage in 15 years, the explanation given is that the acidity and level of dosage are perfectly matched. Indeed, the Mailly Grand Cru Brut Millesimé is both vivid and creamy at the core. With pear and stone fruit; apricot and white peach overlaying a linear spine of oyster shell amid nuanced aromas of honey, fresh croissant and spring blossoms. There is weight but weightlessness too. For the price, tuck a few bottles away in your cellar. 6 g/l dosage. Sample (1677 views)
Tasted by RobertWinesWeLove on 3/26/2016 & rated 84 points: Big nose of apple showing the Pinot Noir grapes. In the mouth it is a litte short but very fresh and young. Will gain complexity with 2-4 years in the cellar. 2,5 njp

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and A˙) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
