A solid value and one of our go to NZ SB (2555 views) | | Tasted by Hampe on 3/20/2017 & rated 87 points: Lågintensivt ljusgult vin. (2765 views) | | Tasted by fotomill on 3/19/2017 & rated 89 points: Same as before. Fresh with citrus, tropical fruits, good acidity. Slightly oily, so medium plus bodied. 89~90/100 (2682 views) | | Tasted by euroyup on 2/14/2017 & rated 88 points: Very nice, fruity, typical sauvignon blanc-nose. Taste: grassy with apple and gooseberry and good acidity. Nicely balanced. Very good with pasta, tuna and tomatoes. On its own a bit rustic. (87-)88. (2793 views) | | Tasted by grapenomad on 12/3/2016 & rated 83 points: Pale lemon. Pronounced nose of gooseberry, passionfruit, elderflower, tomato leaf and green pepper. The palate stays in the border of dry, but has maybe 2-3 g/L of residual sugar. Medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol and pronounced flavor intensity with a long finish. Simple wine, but very good varietal expression and balance. (1448 views) | | Tasted by GAT on 9/23/2016 & rated 90 points: Much superior to the usual Marlborough fare. (2534 views) | | Tasted by Don Jose on 8/20/2016 & rated 90 points: Light bodied and crisp. Citrus fruit bouquet, lime predominates on the palette with peach notes as well. The finish is nice and smooth. This is a fantastic wine. (1554 views) | | Tasted by eric lemieux on 8/15/2016 & rated 87 points: Un bon Sauvignon de la N-Z bien classique. Bon Q/P (1262 views) | | Tasted by mjwstickings on 8/8/2016 & rated 89 points: After a while, most New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc just seems to taste the same, with overdone green and tropical notes, ramped up for the international market. Which is what makes this expression from the ever-reliable Villa Maria all the more pleasant. It's distinctively Sauvignon Blanc, for sure, opening with intense passion fruit aromas, followed by nettle, mango-guava, and green and white pepper, but it's rich, creamy, and mouth-filling on the palate... and yet there's also refreshing, palate-cleansing citrus acidity with lime-grapefruit notes. And the upshot of all this is that it comes across as both substantial and light, the finish turning almost ethereal and leaving a delicate passion fruit aftertaste. Elegant and restrained, it's a refreshing alternative to the usual. (1201 views) | | Tasted by fotomill on 7/17/2016 & rated 89 points: Nice nose of tropical fruits like passion fruit, grape fruit, pine apple and some green apple, plus just a slight hint of citrus. Medium plus palate. Good balance between acidity and fruitiness. Very refreshing. (1280 views) | | Tasted by ssekdad on 6/28/2016 & rated 86 points: drinkable but not memorable, not as good as 2015 Kim Crawford. Decent for the price ($9) but a little flat, less gooseberry sprit than better NZ SB's. (950 views) | | Tasted by Barolo Drunkard on 6/12/2016 & rated 91 points: A textbook NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Good broadness and weight on the palate. Delicious and generous fruit; more on the tropical side, but with a good citrusy edges. Powerful acidity lifts the wine to a long and lingering aftertaste. Gorgeous summer wine! (1112 views) | | Tasted by PT insurgent on 5/27/2016: Pronounced nose, lime, lemon, passion fruit, green mango, herbaceous-grass, very fresh. Palate, off dry, high acid, pronounced intensity, med+ finish. Lime, passion fruit, fresh, grass, gooseberry. Standard NZ SB (1037 views) | | Tasted by Jobu on 5/1/2016 & rated 88 points: Citrus fruit and melon, some acidity. Really good for the price. Improved in the glass, seems to need to warm a little for the flavors to come out. (1048 views) | | Tasted by jviz on 4/29/2016 & rated 90 points: Juicy pink grapefruit, seashells, and celery salt. mouthwatering acidity. Really fragrant SB. Could use a little more structure and minerality but then we'd be talking about 93-95 pts. For the price, this is amazing stuff. I drink it and immediately start thinking about food pairings... (1046 views) | | Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 4/26/2016 & rated 89 points: Fresh citrus, dried herb, stone fruit and melon aromas introduce this pale yellow wine, followed by comparable flavors. Light-bodied, vibrantly acidic and with nicely integrated alcohol (13.0%), it stays solid in the middle and closes with medium length. Don't be influenced by the price...this is quality Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand that deserves recognition. Drink now-2018. (1110 views) | | Tasted by Henman on 4/15/2016 & rated 89 points: The nose was bursting with aromas of nettles, cat pee, minerals and gooseberries. Rather full bodied and dry, beautiful flavors of gooseberries, some grapefruit, minerals and cat pee. A more robust style of S.B. Great to quaff. (1321 views) | | Tasted by marko2016 on 4/1/2016 & rated 86 points: apricot, lime, hints of passion fruit, good acids, short finish, everyday wine (645 views) | | Tasted by SadEdjo on 3/17/2016 & rated 88 points: Clean, grassy citrus. Good QPR (918 views) | | Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 3/7/2016 & rated 92 points: Very light yellow color; savory, smoke, lemon grass nose; tasty, savory, smoke, lemon grass, mineral palate with medium acidity; medium-plus finish (433 views) | | Tasted by jmcmchi on 2/21/2016: Classical NZ nose; taut crisp acidity underlying grassy flavours (849 views) | | Tasted by BigfootPMH on 1/23/2016 & rated 90 points: Light and beautifully balanced. The acid is noticeable without being distracting and playfully dances on the tongue.
Amazing/exceptional value at $10.40 and although not considered a great wine as it lacks complexity etc, it is more pleasing than wines three times the price.
And you can't beat the fact that it is so available, you can walk into almost any bottle shop and pick one up on the way to dinner. Can't beat it at its price (and above!).
Definitely a staple. (902 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 1/5/2016 & rated 85 points: New Zealand Tasting: Pale straw color. Bright and crunchy on the nose with bell pepper, white pepper and asparagus on top of white peaches and limes. Punchy and tart on the palate, brisk but slightly creamy, too. Limes, grapefruit, lemon pith, mixed with green pepper, grass and a slight mineral note. Crisp, clean, bright, this is a reasonably priced wine that is representational of its grape and place. (1229 views) | | Tasted by graemeg on 12/25/2015: {screwcap, 13%} Pungent, youthful nose of asparagus and limes. Light/medium-bodied palate with lowish acidity which tends to accentuate the sweetness of what turn out to be surprisingly tropical flavours in spite of the nose. The may be a dash of RS left here but it doesn’t intrude too much. But the soft acid does leave the finish a bit flabby, even despite the short length. Standard offering for the label, in other words. (1025 views) | | Tasted by Fausto_Coppi on 12/8/2015 & rated 94 points: Super NZSB with all the bells and whistles expected from this producer.
