Tasted by PMJak11 on 5/3/2024 & rated 97 points: This was awesome! PnP. Dark red color with subtle maroon tones. Cedar, bramble, and rustic elements on the nose. Smells very high quality. Bramble with subtle earth and tobacco on the palate. Nice complexity with tannins that are integrated with a nice sweetness. I’ll be buying some! (572 views)
Tasted by Mark van Delft on 4/18/2024 & rated 93 points: Very tasty 100 % Sangiovese from Tuscany. Cherry, leather, tobacco, red fruit, medium minus body, nice long cherry acidic finish. (704 views)
Tasted by ttchan2024 on 2/13/2024 & rated 89 points: Bottle decanted for 1.5 hours. (796 views)
Tasted by Vasily on 11/7/2023 & rated 93 points: Excellent. Drinking well with 1 hour decant. Very balanced. (1270 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 9/11/2023: Limited notes w quick decant, dark, purple and blue fruits, deep, dark, rich. 93+ (1227 views)
Tasted by Macdog on 7/31/2023: Lovely and refined. Very good and will buy again. Some improvement with time in decanter and then again in glass but didn’t need too much time. Drink but could hold. Not sure what the direction of travel is if holding. (1418 views)
Tasted by cstir on 4/1/2023 & rated 93 points: Weii-balanced; great depth of flavor and complexity; lasting finish. (1630 views)
Tasted by swfc on 2/7/2022 & rated 93 points: Smelled and tasted like a bordeaux on opening. After a decant and plenty of time sitting, this really opens up into something very delicious. Red fruits, cherries, great acidity and freshness. Classical structure rather than overtly hedonistic, this is perfect with steak, rocket, tomato etc. Just at the beginning of its drinking window, this is super and will continue to evolve. (2982 views)
Tasted by Rechrom on 12/26/2021 & rated 94 points: Drinking very well right now after a one hour double decant. Beautiful fruit, great balance, hitting on all cylinders with time left. This needs air to shine. (2620 views)
Tasted by 67366 on 12/23/2021 & rated 90 points: Good fruit and perfectly drinkable but a little disappointing. Was hoping it would open up over the course of a few hours but it did not. Austere is a a good description. (2422 views)
Tasted by Chair on 10/28/2021: Very little native generosity. and slow to open. Perhaps a bit austere for Cepparello. (2606 views)
Tasted by TTotal on 7/6/2021 & rated 93 points: Very fine. (2992 views)
(2321 views)
Tasted by jmoon on 3/8/2021 & rated 90 points: Moderately interesting fairly crunchy red fruits, but even after 3 hours didn’t evolve much or gain weight or interest. (2834 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 10/26/2020 & rated 94 points: Drank with Ravioli. In a sweet spot now, very nice mixture of red fruits, grilled herbs, and spice. (3223 views)
Tasted by Rowchan on 8/27/2020 & rated 92 points: Clear, med intensity, ruby red with orangey-pink rim, beautiful slender slow-moving tears.
Clean, pronounced intensity, with primary aromas of red fruits like raspberries, cranberries and red currants, red capsicum and white pepper. Secondary aromas of tea grains and a hint of smoke. Tertiary notes of forest floor and roast beef.
Dry, med body, med tannins, med- acidity, med + alcohol, and pronounced intensity of primary tastes of black plums, red cherries, pomegranate, black pepper and a hint of tomato leaf. Secondary notes of charred cedar and toasted truffles. Tertiary notes of cooked red plums. This is outstanding quality, can drink now but still has lots of years ahead. A delicate mouthfeel and a gorgeous finish. (3072 views)
Tasted by Haze78 on 7/13/2020 & rated 94 points: Another great showing. Dark fruits, graphite, spices and lavender. Early drinking window. (3049 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 11/22/2019 & rated 92 points: Wine tasting with 10 others and most people's wine of the night sweet and sour cherries, crunchy tannins and tobacco, it needs a few more years to really reach it's pinnacle and integrate a touch more but it is drinking well now. 92 points (4363 views)
Tasted by Etienne U3R on 11/12/2019: Au nez principalement une forêt de conifères et des cerises. Gras en bouche et soyeux c’est léger et facile à boire. Encore de la cerise et mûre en bouche. Bonne longueur. Ressemble à du bordeaux mais plus léger. (4016 views)
Tasted by Jvanwinkle on 10/15/2019 & rated 91 points: This is a noble, beautiful wine. Red and black fruits on the nose after opening. The wine unfurls at an unhurried pace. This is ready to go. Only downside here is the wine didn’t evolve much over the couple days it was open. No need to wait on this. (3352 views)
Tasted by Encinitas_Joe on 9/22/2019 & rated 95 points: This wine is in a great spot right now. One of my favorite vintages and getting better each year. (3584 views)
Tasted by Rechrom on 8/25/2019 & rated 94 points: Continues to be a great vintage for this wine. Lovely fruit, great depth, balance. Still youthful with great promise. Works great with food right now. (3642 views)

90-91 pts (3144 views)
Tasted by Haze78 on 5/25/2019 & rated 95 points: Great showing from Zalto Bdx stemware tonight. Cherry, pomegranate, leather and sweet balsamic jump out of the glass. So elegant and charming but still powerful. One of the best pure sangiovese expression. Will try to wait another year or two before opening the next bottle but boy it won‘t be easy... (3156 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
