Tasted by gordoyflaca on 10/9/2020 & rated 91 points: Fresh and fun! Not showing any signs of age (706 views)
Tasted by gordoyflaca on 9/29/2020 & rated 90 points: Light, still good (696 views)
Tasted by westopherguy on 5/14/2017 & rated 87 points: Les Hérétiques continues to be one of our favorite wines at or near its price point. In my view, this is the wine people should be drinking instead of similarly priced, mainstream crap (in my opinion) like Ménage à Trois. (1755 views)
Tasted by geoffreychambertin on 4/22/2017 & rated 88 points: Simple, light red. Went great with lamb shawarma. A good QPR at $10 (1780 views)
Tasted by Anthony Lombardi on 10/8/2016: Carignan from 40 year old vines. A 50/50 mix of barrel fermentation & carbonic. This is a brilliant means of handling Carignan. It has the powerful, brooding dark fruit, but also shows a youthful approachability as the structure is tamed somewhat. I frankly find it astonishing that this can be on shelves for ten bucks. It is a bit one note, but that note is a really good one. (2948 views)
Tasted by wineshlub on 4/18/2016 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured. Synthetic cork (Nomacorc). Mild berry aroma. Smooth flavors of red fruit on top with a firm acid foundation underneath. Medium finish. Straight, simple, balanced, some depth, great staying power. Hard to find a better wine at this (10ish) price. (1669 views)
Tasted by westopherguy on 11/26/2015 & rated 87 points: Popped and poured. A nose that's floral and berry, with iris, blackberry, and hint of blueberry. On the palate, plum, leather, a hint of black pepper, and strawberry, with slight minerality. Quite nice. Easy drinking; soft tannins. Nice. Very economical. Great value. (1821 views)
Tasted by greidy on 10/24/2015 & rated 87 points: Not developed and under-extracted, very thin and dry, one-dimensional and short finish. (991 views)
Tasted by Baerst on 10/10/2015: Bought a number of cases for my daughter's wedding reception on recommendation from my merchant. Nice easy drinking red. Smooth tannins. Affordable. Happy to consume the reception surplus as daily drinkers. All around enjoyable affordable red. (830 views)

Château d'Oupia

Producer website

From Louis Dressner: Everyone talks about the new quality of wines from the Languedoc. The Château d’Oupia is one of the best. André Iché inherited an impressive 13th century castle and a large estate in the barren Minervois region. Iché, now in his mid sixties and never a member of his village coop, tended his very old vines and made his wines but sold everything in bulk to local négociants. Fifteen years ago, a Burgundian winemaker happened to be in Oupia, tasted Iché’s wines, and was so enthused that he convinced Iché to bottle and market his production. Since then, Iché has become an eternal twenty-year-old. He has expanded his vineyard holdings and now also vinifies several cuvées of Minervois with the best production, the Cuvée des Barons and Nobilis, aged in new oak barrels. He has rebuilt a cellar, and is now contemplating buying and cleaning up some overgrown and steep terraces that have been abandoned since the late 19th century. The Minervois Tradition is 60% Carignan (from vineyards up to 100 years old), 30% Syrah and 10% Grenache. It is aromatic, full and densely colored, with a long finish of dark fruits. The wine is elegant and balanced — it is both enjoyable to drink young and can age 5-7 years. Cuvée des Barons and Nobilis are 60% Syrah and 40% Carignan, from a selection of old vines in the best plots, and are aged in Bordeaux barriques for 20 months. They are slower to evolve than the cuvée Tradition, and exhibit more elegance and restraint, but similar dark berries and spicy aromas.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
