| Community Tasting Notes (average 95.5 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by MC2 Wines on 2/2/2024: Darker with more intensity and more power and a bit less acid to it. For a lot of folks this was one of the favorites in the tasting. For sure it was a wine that was just in a really nice place - came out to play right away - although as always there was evolution in the glass. Plums and darker red stone fruit style. Nice wine. (346 views) | | Tasted by LWI on 11/21/2021 & rated 95 points: Licorice, deep and warm read and dark fruit which is balanced out with plenty of acidity, most complex (1602 views) | | Tasted by MC2 Wines on 11/26/2019: Piedmont II - better and learnings; 11/23/2019-11/29/2019 (Barolo, Alba, others): Bucket list for me and so when I saw it at a not totally ridiculous tariff we figured we were up for a bit of a splurge. It was completely worth it. The elegance in this wine is just up another level. It's most driven by the mineral and it's funny how there's almost that sea floor that they talk about that you can actually taste a bit in this wine. Darker fruits. Great acid. And just perfectly precise. To me could easily be the wine of the trip. Wow this was just a beauty! With some fierce competition from the '12 Bartolo Mascarello - this still came through as the wine of the meal and probably the trip. Just firing on all cylinders - open and elegant. I loved the minerality that came through on the finish that was very long. Silky and elegant mouthfeel - lovely! (3332 views) | | Tasted by Brian of Mull on 4/26/2019 & rated 97 points: From Magnum. Massive wine. Enormous tannins. Monica Belluci if the wine was a women. Georgeous and gets more beautiful with age. Dark red and black fruits. Forest floor with violets and peach notes. Just beautiful. I bought on a trip to London a year ago. (2367 views) | | Tasted by Eric Guido on 6/12/2018 & rated 97 points: Barrel and Bottle Tasting with Luca Roagna (Roagna Winery): Amazing. The nose was dark yet perfumed with a mix of red and black fruits, as notes of dried fall leaves, minerals, black soil, crushed sea shell, apricot, and a hint of lemon zest completed the picture. On the palate, I found silky, deep textures with dark red fruits, yet structured and refined from start to finish, flexing its 2006 tannins. It was so long and intense through the finish, amazing in its balance yet severe with its structure, as dried red fruits lingered long. This is a wine for the ages. (4076 views) | | Tasted by Eric Guido on 5/5/2016 & rated 96 points: The layered nose was not only intense but lifted and floral, showing cherry, dried leaves, roses, dusty soil, and crushed stone. It was structured on the palate with brilliant cherry fruits, dusty spice and inner floral tones. It filled the senses with masses of refined Nebbiolo perfume and finished fresh with a vibrant thrust of dried cherry and minerals. This wine should make old bones, the only question is how long before its fine-grain tannins begin to soften. (3505 views) | | Tasted by canan on 3/4/2016 & rated 94 points: BYO Italian Wines (Enomania): Even though it had been decanted for quite a while, it was still harsh initially. There was lovely florality and fruit but also a huge acidity and harsh tannins. As it got more time in the glass and warmed up a little bit, it started to pick up more fruit and depth while mellowing out the tannins a little bit. Overall an impressive wine with a solid and charming intensity. But, it still needs a lot more time to open more up but there is good potential here. Still worth drinking now, but the wine has a potential of improving a lot with time. (2533 views) | | Tasted by galenico on 11/27/2015 & rated 94 points: UN GIOVEDI IN LANGA: Tasting at the domaine.

NebbioloNebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.
Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.
"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
