Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 87.6 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 293 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by vinorsk on 3/14/2024 & rated 88 points: Listed as rose on the back label but it is a very light pink, really yellow with a tint. Nonetheless, the strawberry comes through. It’s a fruity wine, fine bubbles and good mouthfeel and weight. A nice sipper but but too little acidity to be food friendly. Well made and enjoyable but not as complex as Roderer Anderson Valley or the Cali Chandon. (154 views)
Tasted by The Drunken Cyclist on 12/9/2023 & rated 90 points: The Sixth Annual World's Largest Blind Tasting of American Sparkling Wine (Houston, Texas): Retail $30. 90% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay. On the lighter side, with barely a light straw perceptible and a shy nose of slight hints of caramel. Lacking sparkle but with good fruit and a lovely acidity on the palate, which more than makes up for the rather nondescript nose. Still, I feel this needs a bit more fizz. Excellent. 90 Points.

Tasted by PMJak11 on 8/14/2023 & rated 90 points: Complimentary half bottle from The Sanctuary in Kiawah. Not bad. Good starter to vaca and the night. (426 views)
 Tasted by Irish_Wine on 11/1/2022 & rated 87 points: Pale pink-orange colour.

Medium intensity on the nose with raspberry, apple and pastry.

Medium intensity on the palate. High acidity, medium body, medium finish.

Enjoyable, balanced blanc de noirs with good length, intensity and complexity. (296 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 12/8/2021 & rated 88 points: Tasting pour; brief note, indistinct red fruits and grapefruit, tart, good value, a bit overt. (1727 views)
Tasted by JVG on 6/13/2021: Beautiful warm color with a distinct rose-gold tinge. On the nose, it's sweet and inviting, with plump fruit aromas of peach and baked apple, as well as vanilla ice cream and pastry crust. It really smells like a pie. Straightforward and delicious on the palate, with the same sweet assortment of flavors, but also a refreshing spine of acidity to lighten things up a bit. And, unusually, there's a rosy floral character that's more noticeable on the palate than it was on the nose. They weren't shy with the dosage, so the finish has an appreciable touch of sweetness, but it fits the character of the wine, so it doesn't bother me. The mousse is energetic if not the finest or smoothest. All in all, it's a really tasty and enjoyable bubbly that should please everyone without breaking the bank. (1992 views)
Tasted by Jemby on 4/16/2021 & rated 85 points: Consistent and satisfying, this wine is as close to Champagne as you can get without paying twice as much. It presents as an appealing light salmon color with small tight bubbles. On the nose some nice biscuit and red fruit; on the palate restrained shortbread and strawberries. Lovely acidity. Very good value. (1956 views)
Tasted by InrigWine on 9/20/2020: Lovely American sparkler (2404 views)
Tasted by Laz4wine on 3/22/2020 & rated 89 points: Agree with rocknroller notes, good value sparkler, quite reliable and interesting if you like the profile. Also made a nice mezcal/grapefruit cocktail topper. (2641 views)
Tasted by Riccardo Vigoli on 8/14/2019 & rated 94 points: Strawberry, raspberry. Darker pink color. Delicious. Great value. (2094 views)
Tasted by sachsmart on 7/7/2019 & rated 89 points: Crisp with a darker hue. Was refreshing (2349 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 6/28/2019 & rated 87 points: Enjoyed a Feb btl a bit more but this was solid. Loads of red apple. Won't load up on this but I'll try another down the road. Generally like the producer for sold value. (2572 views)
Tasted by PinotAlan on 5/17/2019 & rated 90 points: Regal Princess 5/19 (1893 views)
Tasted by jvphoto on 3/15/2019 & rated 85 points: Light straw with copper accents, small beady bubbles. Cantaloupe, lemon zest, bruised apples. Dry but has a sweetness in flavor, sweet apples, toasted marsmellows, peaches, lime. Nice in theory, not in the mouth. (1773 views)
Tasted by chablis28 on 2/4/2019 & rated 89 points: $24 off the Crave list tonight on 1/2 price Mondays made this a solid value. As always, a super tasty energetic bubbly with exhuberant red apple, raspberry, mineral and bread dough. 89pts+ (2354 views)
Tasted by ziavino on 12/17/2018 & rated 89 points: Simple, tasty, and crowd-pleasing. Almost off-dry, with sweet red delicious apple and bing cherry notes on the palate, and a touch of brioche lingering through the finish. (1671 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 11/18/2018 & rated 86 points: Gloria Ferrer bubbles: Pale copper color. Smells fresh and bright with red apples, raspberries, rose hips and some salted biscuits. Fresh and crisp with a salty, zippy, light appeal. Raspberries, red apple and lemon mix with white flowers, white pepper and sea salt notes. Some sugar adds to the texture and flavor, but it stays fresh and fun for the price. Includes a bit of Chardonnay, this spends 18 months on the lees. (1654 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 11/17/2018: Quite fruit forward, with a slight hollowing out toward the finish, but very pretty berries and red fruit on the attack. Simple, fruity, but yummy. (1470 views)
Tasted by bestdamncab on 10/21/2018 & rated 91 points: Pinot on the River, a palate cleanser, tasty, simple, but pleasant today. (1259 views)
Tasted by zhearr on 7/20/2018 & rated 86 points: Blanc de Noirs in name but built and tastes more like a traditional method rose. Incredible depth and length for $16. Impactful and forward but elegant and serious. 89-90 (1619 views)
Tasted by BURGHen Boy on 4/7/2018 & rated 88 points: Tasty bubbles. Aggressive effervescence and strong nose. Some rounded fruit with a moderate finish. Good QPR (1933 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 3/24/2018 & rated 89 points: I think this has always been my favorite of the Gloria Ferrer N/V offerings. There always seems to be good zip, great balance, a pleasant mix of red fruit and citrus notes, a bit of bread dough. Such a nice QPR. (2127 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 11/1/2017 & rated 89 points: Napa/Sonoma Trip With Some Exceptional Gems; 11/1/2017-11/5/2017 (1800ft Up Cavedale Road, Glen Ellen, CA): Tasted at the Domaine, 92PN, 8C. Definitely preferred over the Sonoma Brut, much more depth and intensity, Subtle pale red hue, red berries, apple, smooth and lively. 88+ to 89pts. (3079 views)
Tasted by physicsfan3.14@gmail.com on 9/24/2017 & rated 86 points: Simple and bland. (2483 views)
Tasted by NarunP on 7/18/2017 & rated 89 points: 92% Pinot Noir with 8% Chardonnay, but with a smidgen of PN juice adding color and creaminess before fermentation.

Pale Salmon pink color derived from the added Vin Gris. Fine beads.

Aromas of strawberry, raspberry, backed up with bready, vanilla notes.

Structurally, med high acidity, dry, med light body. This wine screams California especially when tasted alongside an entry level Champagne. Fruits are much more pronounced and riper expressing the sunnier NoCal terroir. However, at 12.5 abv, it is still elegant enough for the underlying complexity.

Great quaffable summer bubble. 89. (2561 views)

Champagne Blend

"Champagne blend" is a classic grape blend that typically includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Meunier in any proportions.

However, this blend can also include Arbane, Fromenteau (Pinot Gris), Petit Meslier and/or Pinot Blanc as well.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Napa / Sonoma

SONOMA: The Yorkville Highlands AVA, approved in 1998, is located in the southwestern corner of Mendocino County, between Sonoma County's Alexander Valley to the South and Mendocino County!s Anderson Valley to the North. The region is 25 miles long, roughly in the shape of rectangle and bisected by Highway 128 which runs the length of the AVA. The region!s terrain is hilly and forested, with elevations ranging from 1,078 to 2,442 feet above sea level.
The distinguishing features of the Yorkville Highlands AVA are rocky soils with a high gravel content and the climate, which is cooler than Alexander Valley but warmer than Anderson Valley, and significantly cooler at night than the surrounding areas.

Carneros

Straddles the southern ends of Napa & Sonoma Counties.
