Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 40 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by -Tim- on 12/11/2023 & rated 90 points: 15th bottle in the last 8 years.

Definitely the most mature bottle so far with some raisins notes. (210 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 9/3/2023 & rated 91 points: Slightly better than my last bottle (this is my 14th bottle in the last couple of years).

Mature vintage Champagne, still going strong. Lots of toast, chalk, ripe berries, and a hint of honey (40% Pinot Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay). (245 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 1/5/2023 & rated 90 points: Bottle no.13 by now. Bit more mature (hints of raisins) than I remember. Lovely start of the evening! (403 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 9/1/2022 & rated 91 points: Bottle no. 12 by now. Brilliant apero before dinner with friends after documenta 15 visit. (514 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 5/9/2021 & rated 91 points: Bottle no 11 in the last couple of years (see other tasting notes for details). A bit more mature than I remember. (1057 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 11/29/2020 & rated 91 points: Bottle No 10 (this is on sale every other year or so and I stock up each time).

As I stated previously: Lots of toast, chalk and ripe berries (40% Pinot Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay). (1134 views)
Tasted by Weinberg Falls on 8/30/2020 & rated 89 points: Cheap and cheerful, refreshing and tasty with a late summer BBQ. Not under any circumstances to be confused with a "real" vintage champagne, you can't fault this stuff at the price (£20). (1142 views)
Tasted by ChDonath on 3/21/2020 & rated 88 points: Tried this bottle despite the quite high dosage...

Bouquet is rather good, with notes of red cherries and plum. At first sweet notes followed by a slight phenolic bitterness and a rather short lived taste.

After some time on air... acidity comes through and a sweet sour mix taste with underlying bitterness.

For 21€ quite okay but overall mixed emotions... (1337 views)
Tasted by swiftr on 3/3/2020: Very good. Toasty, yeasty character from Chardonnay with some depth. (1302 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 1/11/2020 & rated 91 points: Bottle number 9 (see details in my other tasting notes).

This bottle was less ripe than most of the previous ones. This is a general pattern I noticed for those bottles where Feuillatte updated the label. (1103 views)
Tasted by SLIMES on 9/19/2019 & rated 90 points: A very good effort. A nice yeastiness and decent fruit. Didn't take detailed notes. The Feuillatte BdB 2012 was awarded 94 points in a recent decanter tasting and I will be keen to try that next.

I suspect that Feuillatte ha sthe same habit of Moet in creating a stodgy NV but offering some real value in their vintage cuvees. (1250 views)
Tasted by SLIMES on 7/2/2019: No notes at the time, but this was better than the NV and fairly close in price. (1183 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 5/22/2019 & rated 90 points: A little richer and broader compared to the last bottle I had. Good acidity, mineral, precise with generous fruit and good weight. 89-91 (1247 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 2/17/2019 & rated 91 points: Apero at private wine tasting.

Bottle number 8 in the last 4 years, still loving it! (1006 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 7/2/2018 & rated 91 points: I know I am repeating myself (see my 6 other notes), but this Champagne is just great. Lots of toast, chalk and ripe berries (40% Pinot Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay). (1290 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 4/22/2018 & rated 91 points: 6th bottle and still going strong! Similar to my last bottle, this one was again a bite more ripe. (1096 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 2/11/2018 & rated 91 points: Just lovely, this is my fifth bottle in the last two years and it's all there: Granny Smith, toast, chalk. A bit riper than I remember. (1079 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 8/23/2017 & rated 91 points: Constantly good. See my other 3 notes for details. (1130 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 7/26/2017 & rated 91 points: Given my experiences with the two previous bottles I was very keen on buying more of this vintage. And I got lucky to get another box with 6 bottles.

This is a constantly great Champagne which is at the peak of its drinking window right now, even though I assume that this peak might last for another few years. (1067 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 8/8/2016 & rated 90 points: Similar notes as last time; Granny Smith apples, lemon, toast, some minerals, decent bubbles. Great effort! (958 views)
Tasted by -Tim- on 11/1/2015 & rated 91 points: Bought a cask of 2008 and 2009 on sale.

I completely agree with the tasting note of rossi.wine from last week. In a great state great now but could also improve further.

I like it much better than 2008, which is very mature already. (898 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 10/25/2015 & rated 91 points: A little muted on the nose, chalky, cool with notes of citrus fruit. Green apple, lime fruit, nice mousse, chalky minerality on the palate, very nice length. Very clean, linear and refreshing. Drinking very nicely, but would be interesting to see how it will age. 90-91(+?) (1014 views)
Tasted by WineDoctors on 1/2/2012 & rated 92 points: nice bead and gentle mousse; nice biscuit with blood orange; excellent balance with caviar, creme fraiche, blini, salmon (3684 views)
Tasted by Tommy.alstad@gmail.com on 6/4/2011 & rated 92 points: Veldig godt balansert. (3753 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
