Community Tasting Notes (average 94.8 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Orange Tsian on 2/28/2024 & rated 95 points:

95-96/100 (405 views)
Tasted by crumblemore on 10/29/2023 & rated 96 points: What an extraordinary wine. Finesse, complexity, elegance, power, depth, balance, acidity I think this wine had it all. Maybe the pinnacle of Burgundian Chardonnay I’ve tried. Layers of apple, pear, honeysuckle, mineral, toasted nuts, honey, and vanilla. Very rich, but very fresh. Vibrant acidity and energy paired with great body. Finish is lingering and expansive. I’m still thinking about it! (608 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 10/21/2023 & rated 96 points: blind
LOve the popcorn and nuts style of Leflaive. This is more full bodied than for e.g. 2017. Great density but very fresh in the finish. Nice to drink at the moment. 96 (822 views)
Tasted by BradE on 9/1/2022: Trio of 2015 Leflaive: Chevalier-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet. All decanted at 5pm, served at 6:30pm, enjoyed until 10pm. All three needed a few hours of air, and next time I would decant for three to four hours prior to serving. For the first hour they were all tight, and somewhat homogeneous. In hour two, the Chevalier opened first and from that point on was the consensus favorite, showing more intensity and class. The Bienvenues also improved materially and was quite lovely. The Batard was very good, but not as approachable as a bottle opened soon after release. I'm a fan of many 2015's. At this point, these are very good but shy of outstanding. (1537 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 1/8/2020 & rated 94 points: 2014 Burgundy Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): Absolutely gorgeous - this was a joyful wine. It had a wonderful bouquet - really deep, with notes of cream and apples, chalk and bramble, just fringed with little hints of sweet oak. Gorgeous. The palate was just lovely. Generous yet controlled, a bit wilder than the usually uber-linear and laser-like wines of Anne-Claude maybe, but with a lovely pristine freshness and definition showing in its notes of apples and cream, sweet praline, and a nice bit of spice moving into a super long finish. Just absolutely delicious - a wine of emotion and character. Already drinking fairly well now, but this will keep very well for the mid to longterm. (2900 views)
Tasted by LWI on 11/28/2018 & rated 96 points: Citrus, green gooseberries, gun powder, minerals -- all in all a complex and light footed nose; good grip, very long, white fruit, elegant. A beautiful ballerina. More to come. (3096 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 8/3/2018 & rated 96 points: Voldsomt intens og dyp nese.
Vanvittig deilig selv den holder tilbake detaljer.
Rik, feit og svær munnfølelse uten å bikke over.
Beholder fortsatt sin eleganse.
Rå konsentrasjon og en endeløs finish.
Et powerhouse av en vin!
Denne blir nok helt sinnsyk en vakker dag.

Tasted by Burgundy Al on 7/14/2018 & rated 92 points: Chicago Bastille Day Dinner with Lots of Wagyu (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): A perplexing wine. Lots of very tasty stone and orchard fruit, everything ripe and forward with savory spice middle-through-finish. I just did not detect Grand Cru density or complexity yet here, but maybe (?) that will come with time. (3333 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 7/14/2018: An odd and disappointing showing. Ripe orchard fruit with some burnt rubber notes. Currently just showing moderate levels of concentration and an unfocused palate presence. Almost flabby. Hmmm - perhaps too young, or perhaps it is what it is. Blind I would have scored this in the high 80s. (2943 views)

Wow. Dette var alledeles strålende! www.botti.no (2446 views)
Tasted by Kemo Sabe on 10/11/2017 & rated 94 points: Tasting with Brice in NYC. Really nice wine. Loads of minerality. Light yellow color. Tons of acid but great balance all around. Lemon, lemon peel, sweet yellow fruits, citrus fruits. Open for business now. Crisp and super fresh. Well defined structure, acid, alcohol and fruit. Great effort. (1791 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 6/27/2017 & rated 94 points: Leflaive visit. Floral and white fruit notes. Good energy with acidity present but not overpowering. Balanced, floats across palate. (1805 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
