Community Tasting Notes (average 93.1 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by burg_gram_Jason on 3/17/2024: Power, so deep and broad; there is generous and delicious core of fruit, flamboyantly fat and rich all wrapped in a massive acidity that balances it all out. Times has been kind and the is coming into the zone right now. Absolutely marvelous. (214 views)
Tasted by KVM on 9/13/2023: So much acid. Wow. Tastes good but doesn't feel good. (654 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 12/6/2022 & rated 92 points: AK's birthday: Rich and broad wine with ripe yellow fruit, but had good acidity and tension. Was thinking Puligny from a warm vintage. (1139 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 3/8/2022 & rated 94 points: Comtes Lafon Meursault Goutte D’Or 2014.
Holder koken hele veien.
Fantastisk vin. 94-95p (1203 views)
Tasted by sdr on 2/9/2022 & rated 91 points: Still youthful, light buttercup yellow. Gouttes d’Or is usually the broadest and fleshiest of the Meursault premiers and this one fit the profile. Fat yellow fruit, bright acidity, tasty. Unfortunately after a short time it seemed to become more demure and less interesting. (1201 views)
Tasted by hajoha on 1/11/2022 & rated 93 points: Comtes Lafon Meursault Goutte D’Or 2014.
Lysende frukt, nydelig floralitet og tydelig mineralitet.
Slank frukt av høy kvalitet.
Meget bra løft i vinen.
93p+ (1166 views)
Tasted by vinkeger on 10/31/2020 & rated 94 points: Luftet i ca. 2 timer. Langt mindre fat her. Frukten er lys og har nydelige topptoner. Konge konsentrasjon i munn. (1606 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 7/15/2020 & rated 93 points: Beautiful and expressive. Reductive in the opening followed by lemon rind, pith, marzipan, toasted nuts. Full throttle and multi layered. (1357 views)
Tasted by rlove on 3/21/2020 & rated 93 points: Lafon's 2014 Gouttes d'Or is killer, lithe yet powerful, like a ballerina wielding a bazooka. Intense nose of matchstick reduction, pear, and honeysuckle. Dense fruit and minerality with significant dry extract. The density and extract are buoyed by vibrant acidity. Entering its drinking window now. (1234 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 2/9/2020 & rated 94 points: Sommelier Appreciation Dinner 2020 (The Brown Residence): Beautifully expressing Lafon's opulent concentrated fruit and the 14 vintage precision. Initially served a bit too cold. Lemon curd, beeswax and strong mineral. Succulent yumminess. (1956 views)
Tasted by Ramberg on 12/31/2019 & rated 93 points: A brilliant bottle of Lafon liquid Or!
Very young and fresh, still needs a bit of time to fully come around.
Fresh and airy nose with warm minerals, white citrus flowers, ripe lemons and honey with some gunpowder on opening.
Palate is superb.
Fresh, intense and structured, lemons and lemon zest, high acidity and wet stones.
This will be great given a few more years to fully develop the secondary notes, but highly delivers at this semi young age.
Knock out wine!

Tasted by emzee.mc on 11/9/2018 & rated 94 points: Dinner at Troquet with Henry: Beautiful straw golden color, long legs. Nose has incredible concentration and power, almost Aubert in style in terms of opulence. Buttered popcorn, sugarcane, honey, toasty oak and marzipan. Oak use is quite judicious. Texture is lean, reductive at first, but backed by oomph and alcoholic power. Minerals dominate the core after and boasts plenty of alcoholic kick however. Tastes of reductive just struck matchstick, candied lemon peel, sugarcane, wet stones and seashell. There even is some iodine to it. Finish is a touch smoky with plenty of complexity to it. Beautiful wine but I am a bit turned off by the disjointed alcoholic heat. With time, this beast should calm down though. (2099 views)
Tasted by rlove on 9/13/2018 & rated 93 points: The nose on this is simply superb: Matchstick reduction, orchard fruit, honeysuckle, mint, and crushed stone. The densely packed, mineral rich palate boasts significant dry extract to carry full scale citrus and spice flavors. Last year I suggested waiting until 2020 for this but today I do not see the point. Great now or see where it is in a decade, if you can wait, but there's no point giving this just a year as it is accessible today. (1381 views)
Tasted by the godfather on 7/4/2018: Pretty pretty wine, feminine and multifaceted, sooo delicious (1294 views)
Tasted by rlove on 12/6/2017 & rated 93 points: Pale, bright yellow. A knockout nose: Matchstick reduction, orchard fruit, honeysuckle, white pepper, and crushed rock. Significant dry extract gives incredible intensity and concentration of citrus and mineral flavors. The 2014 Gouttes d'Or is a big wine yet everything is in balance. Best starting 2020 but honestly I can't wait that long. (1492 views)
Tasted by rlove on 11/5/2017 & rated 93 points: Bright, pale yellow. Integrated matchstick reduction, white orchard fruit, white flower, and a hint of truffle on the nose. Orchard fruit, white pepper, and mineral reduction on the palate, gobs of dry extract, intense & concentrated. The 2014 Gouttes d'Or is gorgeous even today. Best starting 2020. (1421 views)
Tasted by rlove on 8/19/2017 & rated 93 points: Bright, pale greenish-yellow. Matchstick reduction preludes an intense core of white orchard fruit, honeysuckle, and white pepper. Finely textured yet boasting significant dry extract with an appealing intensity of saline and citrus flavors. A big wine for Lafon and 2014 yet everything is in balance. Best starting 2020. (1052 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 4/29/2016: Rich, spicy, fruity and shapely. It has plenty of glycerol and excellent underlying structure. (1388 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
