Tasted by anderson.miller.ram@gmail.com on 11/17/2023 & rated 98 points: Needed to open up. Was the best toward the end after breathing some. (444 views)
Tasted by Roman Empire on 1/23/2023 & rated 91 points: Wow! I had 1886 before of same vintage but a couple years ago I was not expecting this. Was really balanced and screamed napa cab. Nice fruit up front with and even and long finish. On a 3 bottle night with friends this one stood out ! (1369 views)
Tasted by Jsilbe on 1/20/2023 & rated 97 points: Buy again (1249 views)
Tasted by ptelgenh on 10/31/2022 & rated 94 points: Very well balanced. I would suggest drink now. At its peak (1603 views)
Tasted by Rich S on 2/23/2022 & rated 92 points: Decanted for sediment. Classic Napa cab nose of cassis, black currant, a bit of sweet oak spice, cedar cigar box and maybe a touch of savory herbs. Similar flavors on the palate with a bit of black cherry mixed in. Medium to medium+ acid, sweet medium tannin and not a lot of oak on the palate, so a bit more classically styled cabernet. Perhaps a bit shorter on the finish than other vintages but overall, a very enjoyable bottle of cab. Just not a show stopper. (1984 views)
Tasted by Flabby67 on 11/26/2020: As always great. Thanks giving at Zybert (2806 views)
Tasted by Roman Empire on 10/29/2020 & rated 90 points: Very good Napa cab. Not as long as I expected given age, but very enjoyable. I don’t know that it would steal the show, which in a way is nice. PIred with some hard cheeses and goat cheese too. Can’t imagine anyone not liking this, it’s was classic Napa cab (1995 views)
Tasted by Kcornett on 10/3/2020 & rated 91 points: Good acidity. Not a tannin fruit bomb. More complexity. Light cherry, cocoa and leather on the nose. (2021 views)
Tasted by Wizard0312 on 12/29/2018: Could still lay down a few more years. Smooth. (3882 views)
Tasted by Alok Kapoor on 8/26/2018 & rated 93 points: Absolutely amazing. The fruit lingers on your palate. (3412 views)
Tasted by Mneumeier on 2/24/2018 & rated 88 points: Needs more time. (3162 views)
Tasted by ptelgenh on 4/13/2017 & rated 91 points: If you're lining up big Napa cabs in one sitting, drink this one first. It's a bit leaner, more acid structure, less extracted than most of the cult type cabs in Napa. Very nice, great food wine if you're looking for something that won't dominate. (4443 views)
Tasted by Vinophiliac559 on 3/10/2017 & rated 90 points: Nose has a little heat up front, dark fruit, toasted oak, a little closed up at the moment. Palate is dark raspberry, dark chocolate, bkueberry, again with noticable heat. Med plus body, tannins aren't crazy big but has solid structure. Finish is pretty lengthy and probably my favorite part of the wine. More or less a typical napa cab for me, a little thinner than some but good. Price point is just ok for me. (4098 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 2/28/2017: There is a belief that north of Saint Helena and on the gravel soil type should be a separate appellation. And the soil type and the shade in he afternoon and the sun and the aspect totally support that fact.

It's not the big boy cab, it's not the one that goes to 11. Farms and picked the same. It's not more oak. It all comes from the high ground of the estate and then whatever barrels are shining that year. It so obvious that some of the barrels are saying "I'm more special than my brothers and sisters and need to be in the 1886 wine."

And that is good st Helena Cabernet. Really good. (2957 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 11/23/2016 & rated 91 points: Round textures, soft, supple tannins, ripe, dark fruits, with good concentration of flavor and a blast of sweet, blackberry, licorice and vanilla in the finish. (4149 views)
Tasted by redzins on 8/17/2016 & rated 90 points: Garnet color. Cherry, tabbaco, and toasted oak aromas. Black cherry, smoke, cigar box flavors. Med body and long finish (2590 views)
Tasted by TheCrusher on 5/24/2016 & rated 91 points: Awash in juicy currant and black cherry fruit, it has a sophisticated back-layering of cedar and maple that adds complexity. Integrated tannins are soft enough to make the wine enjoyable now, yet sturdy enough to cellar for many years. (1710 views)
Tasted by Bobby J on 5/9/2016: Young but very tasty! (1539 views)
Tasted by cigardog99 on 5/4/2016 & rated 91 points: The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. (1457 views)

Ehlers Estate

Producer website
Ehlers Estate, a historic vineyard property that dates back to 1886, continues today as a steward of the land, creating wines that are reflective of its unique terroir and the passion of its viticultural team headed by winemaker Kevin Morrisey. Certified 100% organic on July 1, 2008 by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF), Ehlers Estate crafts expressive and vibrant Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Sauvignon Blanc from vineyard to bottle.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
