Tasted by CourtlyDoc on 3/14/2024 & rated 95 points: Nose - lucious berries, lightly woodsy, light smokiness that extends to palate.
Palate - full body, velvety smooth, all delicious dark berries, nice full structured tannins.
Paired with spaghetti, meat balls and toasted ciabatta. Completely delicious!
3-14-24 - Had the remainder of the bottle with pizza, with jalapeno slices (mild heat) and the boat salad, It was wonderful! (74 views)
Tasted by CourtlyDoc on 10/11/2021 & rated 70 points: The cork broke during removal, and came out in pieces. Had to finally push remainder into bottle, and strained it into decanter, and poured two glasses to drink. It was drinkable but a far, far distance from the last time we had this lovely wine. We did barely complete our glasses of wine with dinner. It wasn’t exactly totally off but -
the next time we have a bottle with its cork dried out, we’re definitely going to taste it carefully first. (973 views)
Tasted by tdurst on 2/14/2021: Reliable. (1314 views)
Tasted by Bsharmastl on 10/18/2019 & rated 92 points: Dark fruits to start and then mushrooms and earth on the nose. Well balanced tannins and good structure. Medium body with a medium finish.
For a blend and a Cab forward, it is an elegant wine with excellent age and within its time window. (2315 views)
Tasted by kingboo on 9/3/2019 & rated 92 points: Time has done wonders for this wine. Very nice complexity, smooth and balanced. (2290 views)
Tasted by smwinak on 5/12/2019 & rated 90 points: Pepper and leather. Decanted for 1.5 hours and tannins were in th background. Good structure and rich. Good value for the money. (2338 views)
Tasted by NapaTom on 3/1/2019 & rated 92 points: very nice cali cab. uncorked two hours before dinner Still excellent 1 1/2 hours later Big opening. Lots of ripe red fruit--but on the soft side. Medium body. Some darker fruits-dark cherry, cassis---appear and complexity is good. Finish is soft and fruity and lingering. Seems low in acid, and is elegant, silky, For me I would have liked a bit more tannin and acidity but this is a very nice wine with a very good QPR. (1941 views)
Tasted by CourtlyDoc on 2/7/2019 & rated 95 points: The nose is just subtle and dark and enticing and promising. Silky smooth, lovely full bodied feel in the mouth , It starts with a lovely sweetness of merlot in the front, spreading to layers of structure and all the dark fruits , jammy and delicious. Lovely with pasta, marinara and bread. We think it would be good with just about anything, or just as a sipping wine or with charcuterie. (1607 views)
Tasted by midolo@gmail.com on 12/28/2018 & rated 92 points: This is one of our favorite vintages of this wine. It continues to get better with age. The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It tastes like blackberry and red currant. The body is light/medium. The wine has silky texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity. (1052 views)
Tasted by rikipedia on 6/4/2018 & rated 87 points: Terroir-istes International - USA - California, Napa, Oakville (Cape Town Law offices): (Tasted Blind): A deep black-red colour. Youthful nose with ripe blackcurrant, raisin, and cassis. A bold entry with exotic notes, followed by leafy elements, spice, and toasty oak. I find a slight greenness and an odd angelica character before opening to tar, blackcurrant, overripe plum cedarwood and a toasty whisky lactone.
Fair concentration, full-bodied, burly style and highly extracted; a drying sensation on the back palate like a lollipop stick distracts. The tannins are dense and quite aggressive, and the wine has a chemical sweetness. Closes with more peaty, islay malt characteristics and prominent oak and perhaps would benefit from more fruit expression.
Blend of 70 CS, 22 Merlot, 4 PV, 4 Malbec. (113 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 5/22/2018 & rated 91 points: My wotn next to two other NoCal Bordeaux blends of about the same price (though they were both 14s). This was the most Bordelais in flavor range though it also features a Napalais ;) lushness and structure. Beautifully plush and even-handed in its oak treatment. Drink now - 2024. (679 views)
Tasted by Leobirdbear on 5/4/2018: Smooth and delicious- lee man (1641 views)
Tasted by Zuperdaave on 9/17/2017 & rated 90 points: Delicious. Very dark purple in color with many thin legs. Smoke, cherry on the nose. Flavors of tobacco and cedar. A very nice, structured wine; but the price point has gotten a bit high without a commensurate increase in quality. Very nice wine, but low on the value scale in my opinion. (2770 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 8/30/2017 & rated 91 points: 3 hour decant. Deep ruby color. Nice nose of black cherry and anise. Tongue-drying acidity on smooth palate, with more anise and some peppercorn. Rounded tannins on medium long finish. This has a very nice brooding character and drinks like a $100 wine. (2654 views)
Tasted by ovy on 8/5/2017 & rated 81 points: Deep scarlet color. Dark cherry, plum, baking spices, and coffee weave into a complex aroma. The wine opens with ripe plum and black currant. The impressive structure is readily apparent in a dense, full body with refi ned tannins. The extensive finish blends cassis with anise, tobacco, cocoa, and vanilla.
Blend: 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 2% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc (2898 views)
Tasted by kingboo on 7/17/2017 & rated 86 points: Disappointing for this label. (2942 views)
Tasted by chuckos77 on 6/28/2017 & rated 87 points: Nothing particularly special about the wine. Good wine but not memorable (2452 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 4/24/2017 & rated 92 points: Started out somewhat dark and brooding, but became very fruit forward after 2 hour decant. Great either way (PNP or decanted). Dark color and dark fruit on nose, along with some red licorice. Fruit forward, smooth palate with modest tannins on a medium long finish. This was a very pleasant surprise. Nice QPR. (1590 views)
Tasted by ghayeswine on 3/30/2017 & rated 89 points: $24 pier 9oz pour (1506 views)
Tasted by tdurst on 2/18/2017 & rated 91 points: Very nice already; smooth and bursting with flavor; going to be great. (1480 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 11/6/2016 & rated 89 points: Deep purple color. Smells of roasted plums, black currants and black cherries, topped with cedar, eucalyptus, vanilla and spiced chai. Mouthfilling texture with moderate tannic structure and medium/low acidity. Saucy black currants and black cherries, the fruit is matched with anise, eucalyptus, dark coffee and charred vanilla bean flavors. Could use air or a year or two. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 24% Merlot, 2% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged 20 months in 70% new oak. Tasted sighted. (1753 views)

Franciscan Estate Magnificat

Magnificat is one of the original Meritage blends in California, a wine Franciscan has proudly produced since 1985. Named for J.S. Bach’s masterpiece, it is crafted to be as seamless and harmonious as its musical namesake. Starting with over 200 small lots of red wine, Magnificat is created to showcase our finest Bordeaux blend of the vintage. Carefully assessing each lot as it ages in barrel, we create the blend with repeated trials and blind tastings. Pre-fermentation is with a cold soak of 4 days to enhance color and body. Fermentation and maceration average 22 days to build structure and integrate mouthfeel. Depending on how the varieties express in a given year, the composition will be different, always shaped to provide consistency of style. The wine is founded on Cabernet Sauvignon, but true to Meritage, uses other Bordeaux varietals to give roundness, structure, and rich complexity.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
