Tasted by EvanJB on 9/24/2022: Excellent (722 views)
Tasted by brucerob on 7/16/2022 & rated 92 points: Delightful… perfect window… at peak but no big hurry (690 views)
Tasted by BHRH on 5/30/2022 & rated 93 points: Decanted one hour - no significant sediment. Smoky blackberries on the slightly jammy nose. Very elegant palate with soft, plummy fruit, black raspberry, roasted meats and cassis. A touch of dark chocolate on the long finish that features juicy black fruits and a bit. A nice dollop of acidity make this very food friendly and sturdy enough to remain at peak for a couple more years. Delicious!! (762 views)
Tasted by rwerner on 12/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Improved over an hour time after opening. Delicious fruit with a pleasant soft tannic finish. (990 views)
Tasted by TheWineCRU on 12/5/2021: pulled to come to room temp. (978 views)
Tasted by SparkyMI on 10/26/2021 & rated 91 points: This is a much better wine this time around. Decanted for 2 hours. The flabbiness is starting to go away. There is structure that will allow more age on this bottle, which it still needs try the next one in 2023. (655 views)
Tasted by johnnychaos on 10/21/2021 & rated 92 points: Intensely concentrated fruit hits you like an ocean wave. Everyone at the table stopped and said, "woah!" Deep flavor, long finish, this is not a small wine but it is very well balanced. Will probably last quite a bit longer but I really like it where it's at now. I wish I had more. (550 views)
Tasted by WineKnut on 6/5/2021 & rated 93 points: So good I thought it was French! How about that from the 2014 Angeli during our "is it California or France?" blind tasting last Saturday. Stunning effort from the Ballard Canyon estate and super tasty. Nose is starting to open up again now, too. (795 views)
Tasted by Michigan Mostberg on 5/23/2021 & rated 91 points: Medium-bodied while being LOADED with filling dark fruit. Deep blackberry, more herbal (and a quick whiff of menthol) than spice. Velvety smooth yet not soft, still showing pleasant structure, finding balance from underlying acidity. Drink now because it won't get any better, drink 2 or 3 years from now because you can. (669 views)
Tasted by cdebeau on 12/22/2020 & rated 93 points: Cherry, black fruit, long, smooth velvet tannins (804 views)
 Tasted by HU on 1/30/2020 & rated 93 points: 2019-05-11: 94 Points
What a beauty of a wine! Nuanced and rich flavors, dense but not overboarding. It was a surprise find during a wine tasting trip to Santa Barbara and surrounding vineyards, and I keep loving it every time I open a bottle. Was better with some decant.

2019-11-30: 90 Points
This time around, it did not feel particularly special. Good wine, yes, but didn‘t cause us to cheer like last time. I have no idea what explain the difference. Was it the bottle? The mood? The food?

2020-01-30: 94 points. Excellent again, this time.

Grand total: 93 points. (1307 views)
Tasted by carlsport on 10/27/2019 & rated 91 points: Thick and full of dark fruit (1137 views)
Tasted by JERB on 10/26/2019 & rated 91 points: I haven't had any wines from Stolpman for a couple of years. This was a delightful reintroduction. The Angeli was decanted for two hours. The nose was of dark fruits and spice. The palette was more dark fruit - blackberries, boysenberries - and gave us a warm earthiness that was very nice. I suspect this wine benefitted from the years of being left to mature, but it is drinking very well right now! (852 views)
Tasted by WineKnut on 6/27/2019 & rated 93 points: This Angeli is a beautiful thing. The nose is 3 out of 5... it doesn't quite leap out of the glass, but once you get down in there, it is a symphony of blackberry, eucalyptus, gingerbread and spice cookies. The mouth feel is luscious and the flavors do not disappoint. Black fruit and woody stems over freshly tilled fields. Good clean earth... the tannins tuck into your cheeks and steep into a brilliant black tea finish as the fruit fades. I could use another bottle of this. (828 views)
Tasted by Puligny33 on 12/24/2018 & rated 93 points: Very good indeed. Round, smooth and very drinkable. I had it alongside Amazon Ra fro the same year. Also very good but, for me, the Stolpman was slightly superior. (789 views)
Tasted by WingedOtter on 4/20/2018: Decanted 30 minutes. Opened up over next 30. Warm brown sugar/baking spices on nose. Blackberries, blackberry cobbler, medium plus mouthfeel, tannins and acid present but neither dominating. Pepper and black fruit on finish, leading into light menthol residual. Drinks really well standalone. Probably great with dark chocolate. Very, very nice (1169 views)
Tasted by jkvedar on 2/11/2018 & rated 91 points: Fabulous expression of central coast Syrah. Smoke, pepper and blackberry on the nose. Fruit forward on the palate. Great finish. Well-balanced. Showing well now. (1209 views)
Tasted by Eric Guido on 8/19/2017 & rated 94 points: The nose was dark with haunting florals, dark earth, and black fruits. Exotic spices, licorice and animal musk lingered beneath and gained prominence with time. On the palate, I found zesty textures with saturating blackberry and cherry fruit, licorice, and spice. It seemed to be a bruiser from the nose yet had tremendous energy on the palate. It finished intense and spicy with saturating blackberry fruits. This is unapologetically large in scale but does an amazing job of finding balance. (1949 views)
Tasted by appel54 on 9/12/2016 & rated 89 points: Tät mörklila färg

Väldigt mycket söt frukt, initialt en hel del malbec frukt, björnbär, tunga ekfatstoner, även lite alkoholstickig på näsan

I munnen är alkoholen mest framträdande initialt, intensiv frukt, rätt så eldigt i munnen.

Ett intensivt och maxat vin från USA. (2110 views)
Tasted by cdebeau on 9/7/2016 & rated 89 points: Will benefit from decanting to mellow the initial harshness. Nice earthy nose. (1711 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 7/15/2016: Another Santa Barbara Trip; 7/15/2016-7/16/2016 (Los Olivos, Santa Barbara): On the nose: roast meats, loads of blackberry, cola; shows some oak influence but well integrated. Very chalky tannin, and perceived slightly softer acidity. Good vibrancy on the long finish..which shows a little heat. (1811 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
