Community Tasting Notes (average 87.1 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 13 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 8/28/2016: Some mineral reduction to the nose. It is very calm and even and oozes rocky minerality. It has a chalky base and the finish is decidedly salty. There's just a gentle squeeze of lemon and a suggestion of citrus blossom once it breathes. (1492 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 4/26/2016 & rated 87 points: Limpid, watery whitish-green color. Quite closed and vaguely reductive nose with aromas of ripe red apple, some perfumed floral tones, a little bit of steely minerality and a faint hint of rubbery reduction. The wine is crisp, light-bodied and quite lean on the palate with dry and lively flavors of steely minerality, tart lemon citrus fruits, some fresh red apples and a hint of wet stones. The racy acidity emphasizes the lightness of the body and the freshness of the fruit. The finish is quite long, crisp and somewhat neutral with mineral flavors of cold gun steel, chalky bitterness, some tart lemony citrus fruit, a little bit of red apple and a hint of floral apple blossom.

A very fresh, crisp and quite lean Riesling that is very precise and steely, true to the Rheingau style. A pleasant and refreshing everyday white with good sense of structure, but a little bit one-dimensional and underwhelming for its price (22,40€). I doubt aging will make this wine much better, since it feels more like a wine for immediate consumption, not for cellaring. (739 views)

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)

Rheingau

VDP Rheingau (Official site) | The Rheingau (Wines of Germany) | Wikipedia about The Rheingau
On weinlagen.info

The small but fine wine-growing area Rheingau offers one for the culture of the vine ideal microclimate and best soil conditions. The Rhine runs uninterruptedly almost one thousand kilometres from Basel up to its muzzle into the North Sea, in a northerly direction. With a short exception - the Rheingau. The Rheingau mountains force the river to a change in direction here. The vineyards falling in this region to the south stretch really to the sun. The king of the white wines, the Riesling, finds ideal local conditions for the unfolding of his fine fruity and elegant type of vine character on the multilayered weathering grounds with loess, loam and sand additions.
