Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 12/24/2023: Opened (but not decanted) for four hours until served. Regret serving at all, as this was clearly too young. Some expected Paulliac aromatics - red fruits, eucalyptus, cedar - but palate tannic and disjointed. Will hold other bottles from this vintage. Didn't score. (986 views)
Tasted by peterag on 11/3/2023 & rated 91 points: Full but fresh, still young and at least 10 years more to keep (1048 views)
Tasted by GBFan on 10/10/2023 & rated 93 points: I have rarely had this wine, but this one was the best I have had. Polished, with very good fruit. Fully ready to drink, although it will likely improve. (1214 views)
Tasted by Tony T on 9/1/2023 & rated 94 points: Decanted for about two hours. Showing very well already. Nice fruit and surprisingly well integrated tannins. The best Clerc Milon I have had so far. Very enjoyable. (1268 views)
Tasted by rwez on 8/3/2023 & rated 91 points: fantastic! wonderful fruit, deep tannins, long finish. since it was a 375 bottle no decant necessary. pop and pour ! love this wine :) (1580 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 7/9/2023 & rated 94 points: Wish I got a few more of these. Similar to previous notes, this had nice power but felt somewhat open even at this stage. I increasingly like this producer but the price keeps going up too. (1717 views)
Tasted by PlanetX on 6/10/2023 & rated 93 points: Union Grands Crus Bordeaux (UGC) 2020 Tasting (Hangar 14, Bordeaux): Very appealing right now with tannins enveloping a lovely core of fruit. (1848 views)
Tasted by Vinvidz on 3/22/2023 & rated 91 points: Tasted at Chateau Mouton Rothschild. Dark red. Clean. Ripe nose of black and blue fruit. Palate of darker blue and black fruit, good complexity and fine acidity and tannins. Well-integrated oak. Medium ++ intensity, acidity, structure. Drinking well now but will be better with age. Always had a soft spot for Clerc Milon. Trivia - the characters on the label are copied from a small about 10cm jeweled piece in the Chateau museum (1514 views)
Tasted by Jaber on 3/2/2023 & rated 92 points: Beau fruit. Arômes complexes. Ça va être difficile d’attendre…. (1400 views)
Tasted by chatters on 11/5/2022: Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London): Ripe with notes or Ribena, a little wild blackcurrant, bramble, plums. Juicy, savoury, talc textured persistent tannins, the fruit ripe on the palate but still retaining freshness, balanced. Still quite primary but shows promise for a long life. Rather lovely. (2136 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 7/25/2022 & rated 93 points: This was delicious right out of the bottle. There was beautiful dark black and blue fruit along with come creme-de-cassis, and other telltale signs of Pauillac which I like so much. Drinking ok already, though will benefit from more time. Medium bodied, a bit light on its feet - missing some concentration perhaps. I'm increasingly realizing I like this producer and the quality is improving further, but the price is going up too - starting to feel a bit pricey. 93+pts. (2383 views)
Tasted by Biggsy on 1/6/2022 & rated 92 points: Tasted blind as Day 11 of Blind.Faith’s “12 Blinds of Christmas”. Pats self-on-back for picking this as a 2015 Medoc (I didn’t go as far as trying to guess the commune). Deep ruby red. This feels very savoury on the nose, dominated more by a cedar, graphite character. There is some black fruit but it’s not running the show. It’s lovely on the palate, feels poised with a much more savoury style than the 2018 Napa Cab tasted alongside it. The cedar and graphite characters come through even more on the palate but don’t overpower the fruit. Very easy to drink. (2460 views)
Tasted by Dithiolium on 1/1/2022 & rated 92 points: Brilliant dark red. Aromatic floral berry nose of classic Pauillac minerality. Plum, blackcurrent, licorice, smoke, tobacco, oak. Elegant intensity and complexity. Tannins soften nicely being decanted 30min. Long finish. (1981 views)
 Tasted by vincentnip on 4/16/2021 & rated 90 points: 深紅,香,2hrs (3000 views)
Tasted by BillyT on 1/25/2020 & rated 88 points: Agree with Shrages. Dissappointing at best. (3606 views)
Tasted by BillyT on 1/25/2020 & rated 89 points: 88 only for possibilities. Way not ready for orime time. (4217 views)
Tasted by Shrages on 1/22/2020 & rated 90 points: Totally unexpected. From a Demi. Smells and Tastes like a Chinon or even an old-vines Beaujolais to me. Overwhelmingly red-fruited nose and flavors, with strawberry and even some cranberry. Very little dark fruits or wood tones. Fine grained, tight, but not tough, tannins. Will become easier but not a ton better over time. Hard to believe it’s a Pauillac. (3056 views)
Tasted by Matt Scott on 12/27/2018 & rated 94 points: Even more body, after a three hour decant this is showing even more depth. I still get the blackberry, coffee and slate, however, I also pick up some cedar this time as well. So long and memorable, this will age for many years. Drink 2022 -. (5642 views)
Tasted by Matt Scott on 11/21/2018 & rated 93 points: Decanted for an hour. Another stunning effort from a chateau that has been offering some of the best value in Pauillac. Blackberry, coffee, cherry, cedar, brioche and chiseled slate. A long finish and the Cabernet fruit shows a fine purity, with tannins that are silky and finely layered. This Clerc is more androgynous than your typical strong vintage. Like most Clercs since 1986, this will last awhile. Drink 2022 -. (4661 views)
Tasted by I've Got Bottle (JP Abela) on 11/16/2018 & rated 93 points: Le Salon des Outsiders de J.M.
Note : 16,75/20 i.e. 93/100 (3324 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 6/16/2018 & rated 93 points: Tasted next to 2015 d'Armailhac. Similar in terms of fruit profile, also quite expressive, but maybe a little more restrained, a bit more depth, more polished. Lovely ripeness of fruit, powerful tannins, good acidity. Very long. 92-93+ (4284 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 5/21/2018 & rated 93 points: Floral and tobacco nuances pop right up before moving on to the elegant textured, black cherry, licorice and crushed rock characteristics found here. The wine offers energy and purity in its fruits with soft tannins in the finish. (5211 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 3/19/2018 & rated 94 points: Bordeaux 2015 in bottle (Zurich Arvi / Singapore UGCB): Classic, cool, blue fruit, lots of forest aromas. Very good mid range Medoc wine. (5933 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 3/12/2018 & rated 93 points: Elegance, purity and freshness are the hallmarks of this beauty. Medium/fulll bodied, with layers of alternating black cherry and cassis, you also find notes of spice box, tobacco and cedar. The smooth tannins and fresh dark red fruits in the finish resonate with crispness and length. This will age quite well. (3521 views)
Tasted by AWBryce on 2/21/2018: Perfumed nose, coffee, red fruits, mushrooms. Sweet tannin, med acid, long finish. Very nice. (2638 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

Médoc

VdB

The eight precisely defined appellations of the whole of the Médoc (from Blanquefort Brook to the north of the Bordeaux built-up area, almost to the Pointe de Grave) may claim the Médoc appellation. But there is also a specific territory in the north of the peninsula which produces exclusively wines with this appellation. In the great majority, the Médocs come from the north of the peninsula. The great individuality of this region is that the number of vines has increased more recently here than elsewhere, apart from a few isolated spots where vines have grown for many years. Today, the size of the small estate has brought about the development of a powerful co-operative movement. Four co-operatives out of five belong to the group called Unimédoc which ensures aging, bottling and marketing a large proportion of their wines.

Pauillac

Read more detailed information about Pauillac Looking full onto the river from the earliest days, with an important port activity, traces of which go back to ancient times (shipment of bronze as long ago as 2000 B.C.), Pauillac's life has always been intimately linked to the history of wine. Although port activities were at the root of its prosperity, Pauillac had to wait until the eighteenth century when Bordeaux ceased to hold its privileged position to become a wine port. The town then became the natural outlet for the wine production of neighbouring cantons before reaching its zenith in a period when the vineyards were exceptionally prosperous.

The characteristic of the Pauillac terroir is its exceptional relief: the many undulating ridges make it unique morphologically speaking. Highly favourable conditions facilitate the dissection of the layer of gravel. This thin, Garonne gravel from whose very poverty springs great richness, has an extremely effective natural drainage.

With their velvet red colour with a hint of amber, the wines from the Pauillac appellation, full-bodied and rich in tannin, are vigorous. Powerful when young, their aromas of red fruits (black-currant, raspberry) or flowers (violets, roses, irises) melt with the passing of time into a bouquet which is long in the mouth.
Rich and complex, the wines of Pauillac deserve to be laid down for a little longer.

Production conditions (Decree dated November 14, 1936)

In order to have the right to the Pauillac appellation of controlled origin, red wines must:
- come from the commune of Pauillac and from precisely defined parcels in the communes of Cissac, Saint-Julien, Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Sauveur, "excluding the parcels situated on recent alluvium and sand on impermeable subsoils",
- satisfy precise production conditions : grape-varieties (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet-Franc, Carmenère, Merlot Noir, Petit Verdot, Cot or Malbec), minimum of sugar (178 grammes - 6.27 oz. - per litre of must) degree (an acquired 10°5) base yield (45 hectolitres per hectare).
