Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 30 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 8/20/2023 & rated 93 points: Amazing how well this wine ages and its value proposition via its QPR. (484 views)
Tasted by 1964vintage on 5/14/2023 & rated 93 points: Decanted and consumed over a few hours. Good call as it needed the extra coaxing to shine. Initial whiff of alcohol but that dissipated quickly. Dark, lush, medium finish. Nicely done. (468 views)
Tasted by WineFrog09 on 3/10/2022 & rated 91 points: A nice bottle of wine but nothing spectacular. Diamonds on the cork. Needs at least an hour decant but benefitted from two hours. Medium acid. (988 views)
Tasted by wino121 on 9/7/2021 & rated 91 points: Well integrated, lush dark fruit with a rounded finish.
In the bubble.
Drink now thru 2024 (1290 views)
Tasted by Redfisher on 1/10/2021 & rated 90 points: Deep ruby color with plum and cherry, some cinnamon and vanilla. Great depth and lingering flavor that favors red meat or strong cheeses (1688 views)
Tasted by Djwpar3 on 4/15/2020 & rated 90 points: Beautiful color, oak nose, bright for a cab, a bit tart, but softens after opening. Slight oily finish, cherry vanilla finish. Better choices at this price, probably won't replenish. (1985 views)
Tasted by wine_454 on 12/29/2018: Beautifully plummy Ruby in color, notes of tobacco, vanilla, blackberry, cherry and flint on the nose. A lovely Napa red that dances across the palate with strawberry, a hint of bright strawberry when served at 57° - delicious, companionable red. (3163 views)
Tasted by T Tones on 12/14/2018 & rated 100 points: Outstanding (2810 views)
Tasted by Djwpar3 on 12/7/2018 & rated 90 points: I'm not sold on the popularity of this wine. While it hits many of the requisite Napa Cab notes, dark fruit, good tannin's, plum notes, there is something off setting in the aftertaste. A bit of tartness, sour taste, maybe due to the "unfiltered" style...i'm not sure. Nevertheless, I have 1 bottle remaining, and will update after that. Don't think I would seek more as there are many super wines in this price range. Hope that this isn't TOO negative...it's good BUT...... (2306 views)
Tasted by suarezd on 11/23/2018 & rated 91 points: excellent (2210 views)
Tasted by OWC on 11/10/2018 & rated 86 points: A great disappointment. Lacked focus and fruit obscured by a sour taste. Not recommended. (1872 views)
Tasted by Keeping It Real on 10/30/2018 & rated 91 points: Strong, good, like unfiltered sake. (1281 views)
Tasted by Momus99 on 5/20/2018 & rated 92 points: M&S Moet/Hennessy tasting. A Napa cab out of central casting, with all the essentials. Tannins are very prominent but not too rough. Made me wish I had a steak handy. (1929 views)
Tasted by HowellMountainCru on 4/26/2018 & rated 90 points: Decent medium bodied wine with light pleasant nose, slight tart light plum taste. Nothing to complain about but not calling me to the next sip either. This is not a great example of a modern Napa cabernet but it doesn't cost like one either. Yeah - 90 about sums it up, a rating a give a wine I like, not love that generally has no remarkable features but certain doesn't offend. (2076 views)
Tasted by wineotim on 10/16/2017 & rated 91 points: Open knit and ready for business. Not as deep as the '13, very similar to the '12. (3593 views)
Tasted by Motz on 4/1/2017 & rated 91 points: Brawny and substantive, showing appealing varietal characteristics and hints of Napa Valley terroir. Young and taut at present; it should evolve over the next two to three years. 90-91. (4119 views)
Tasted by TKinFtW on 12/4/2016 & rated 90 points: Bought this Can at the Newton Winery. Smooth, rich and delicious. (3383 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
