Tasted by twich22 on 11/26/2020 & rated 92 points: For those who are unaware, this wine has no sulfates added and so is very different from most wines. I recommend opening this a week before you plan to drink it. On day one it tastes sour and the tannins will make your tongue shrivel. Each day after that it improves and by about the seventh day it’s smooth and tastes wonderful, completely different from what it was on day 1. Continued aging changes the flavors more. The tannins are still strong but much more in balance with the rest of the wine and not so intrusive. Really an amazing thing to experience, and a great wine if you are willing to plan ahead a few days. I have had mine open for almost 2 weeks and it’s ready to be served for thanksgiving. Too bad it’s almost all gone at this point! (1043 views)
Tasted by trifecta on 3/31/2020: This is my second bottle of this and to be honest both times it was underwhelming. Given the price point, packaging, etc.... I was hoping for more. I've enjoyed the 2006 and 2008 winesmith and other diamond ridge/two jakes cab francs much more than this. This bests only the 2007 winesmith CF from the full group. I have 2 more bottles and will probably just hide them for another 10 years in case they get more interesting. (1159 views)
Tasted by manny651 on 7/29/2017 flawed bottle: Once again a bad bottle from WineSmith. His wines are great if they make it here in good shape, but sadly 1 out of 2 are bad. I'm done buying these online. (2184 views)
Tasted by rjquillin on 1/1/2017: Quite different, quite enjoyable; no SO2 used.

Tasted by Wicked Panda on 9/24/2016 & rated 90 points: I think this is still young. It needs to be decanted quite a while before drinking. (2155 views)

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wines & Vines article

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

North Coast

The North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties. (see The Wine Institute for more information)
