Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Burgundy Al on 4/13/2023 & rated 89 points: On the fat side, while still very tasty. This has always been an odd wine. Sometimes too rich. sometimes too lean, never quite living up to Grand Cru Chablis from this great vintage. (1410 views)
Tasted by Lord Rodney on 1/1/2023 & rated 91 points: Showing good but not terribly complex at this stage - needs more time (621 views)
Tasted by Empirate on 9/23/2022 flawed bottle: Premox (525 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 7/14/2022 & rated 89 points: Burgundy Dinner with Friends (S.K.Y. Restaurant - Chicago IL): Apple and lemon, very classically bright, minerally and Chablis-esque. Finishes slightly more tart than ideal, but good weight and even better length. Quite different vs another bottle from last month, this was less ripe and more "classic." (1544 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/5/2022 & rated 89 points: (Mostly) Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Hughes House - Chicago IL): A good glass of wine, but less classically Chablis-like to me. Richer than many 2014s or certainly most 2014 Chablis, this seemed more like many 2015s, and certainly a very good glass of Chardonnay for current enjoyment. (1563 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 8/18/2021 & rated 91 points: Firing on all cylinders with loads of green apple and Grand Cru concentration. Very fresh and bright, driving acidity. Should hold for 5+ years in this zone. (770 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 6/17/2021 flawed bottle: Blind 2014 / 2017 White Burgundy (Chez Winefool): Slightly oxididzed from what seemed like a bad cork seal. (905 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 5/1/2021 & rated 92 points: Nose: There is a pristine and spring-like quality to the nose with ginger, mint, red apples, pears, meyer lemons, crushed rocks, saline, oyster shells, white fruits, and acacia flowers. There is very good depth and balance that shows off its class.

Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with tart, high acidity. The acidity still has some sting to it, letting you know that this is still in its infancy. There is a lot of freshness and vibrancy to the feel with ginger, mint, red apples, pears, meyer lemons, crushed rocks, acacia flowers, and oyster shells.

Overall: This is still clearly young, but it's also really tasty. It can certainly use a few more years to fully come together as the tones are still very primary and not entirely playing all together. (644 views)
Tasted by mmcdds on 11/2/2020 & rated 92 points: Delightful tonight. (693 views)
Tasted by Dako on 10/23/2020 & rated 92 points: Very pleasant lemon-lime element and plenty crisp yet without overarching acidity for its relative youth. First had this from barrel with Blair in Savigny and it was love at first sample. Bought as soon as it was available in the U.S. Another bit of great work by him and am selfishly sorry he has sold as this is among many of his really well-priced wines. (631 views)
Tasted by mmcdds on 6/10/2020: This bottle seemed abit more acidic than previous bottles. (571 views)
Tasted by mmcdds on 6/10/2020 & rated 91 points: Opened a second bottle and this one was much better with bright, penetrating, citrus and orchard fruit, firm minerality and a brisk acidic core. (641 views)
Tasted by lifebreath on 5/14/2020 & rated 92 points: Excellent Chablis. Drinking very nicely now and will get better with time. (615 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 4/18/2020 & rated 93 points: Drinking deliciously in its youth. So much vibrant, tangy acidity with classic Chablis sea shell notes. (738 views)
Tasted by mmcdds on 4/3/2020 & rated 90 points: Delightful (469 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 10/22/2019 & rated 92 points: This is one of the more restrained and structured 2014 Chablis bottles that I've come across. Drank the best on night three. Loads of green apple and citrus. Taut acidity and backbone. Softens and develops some plushness on the third night. Hold for 5+ years. (868 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/22/2017: Thursday Cellar Visits: Domaine Amiot-Servelle, Domaine Château de la Tour and Domaine Dublère (Cote d'Or): Tasted at the domaine. Popped and poured. Reasonably reductive, but that mostly dissipated in just the few minutes swirling in glass. Apple and lemon peel. Minerally with a lemon finish. Needs a few years in the cellar to soften. 90-91 point potential. (1466 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
