Tasted by wine4lux on 3/3/2024 & rated 94 points: A fantastic zin! Great dark cherry with a touch of sweetness. Despite high ABV, the alcohol is beautifully integrated.
Served with mixed green salad, cacio e pepe, and chicken thighs with Italian herbs.
The wine was smooth and rich without being overpowering. One of my favorite vintages from Martinelli. Last of 2 bottles. (87 views)
Tasted by Dine&Vine on 7/3/2022 & rated 90 points: Good zin flavor profile: jammy, dark raspberry fruit, appropriately aged given the high abv. Martinelli pushes the boundaries on ripeness at the expense of high heat; the reason I don’t buy their zins anymore. (591 views)
Tasted by JSolo on 11/16/2020 & rated 91 points: Very good but may still needs some time to be better. (971 views)
Tasted by tc from santee on 10/16/2019 & rated 93 points: I Coravin’d this bottle. Its a vibrant, fresh, well delineated and very clean on the pallet. This medium bodied jewel is really good. No sharp edges, pure and sweet. Lots of black and red raspberries. I’m impressed (1275 views)
(1934 views)
Tasted by wculpepper on 9/6/2018 & rated 93 points: Double decanted; tasting notes from day two. Clear deep ruby color. Black cherry, spices and a bit of earthiness on the nose. Lush and jammy cherries, plum, vanilla and cracked pepper on the palate. The finish is quite long with just a little heat which doesn't really distract from what is otherwise a stellar wine. Should be drinking well for at least three years or more. (1604 views)
Tasted by bemeyer on 6/7/2018: Agree with other descriptios Pleasurable wine. A little bit of heat. Wait 6 months to drinkv next bottle (1118 views)
Tasted by dwmichel on 10/15/2017 & rated 92 points: Curiously med- concentration of ruby red with a light blue hue. Honey-glazed and baked red apple, black cherry syrup, blackberry and huckleberry jam, black plum, almost brandy-like, dusty earth, geraniums, a bit of dill, chives, anise, and cracked black peppercorns. Almost off-dry. Big stuff with a big 16.3% abv. Not my preference, but if you like big, rich, slightly sweet, American wine, this is your guy. Zin aging potential is up for debate, but with how it is now, it has at least 5 years of lasting power. (1387 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 9/14/2017 & rated 92 points: Similar to other bottles the opulence here is through the roof. Hard to not enjoy these bruisers even if stylistically I shy away from this type of wine. The berry pie, jam, black fruit compote nose and palate are pure, with touches of wet decaying soil, wet pipe tobacco as well present. Enjoy one glass is enough at a time. (1133 views)
Tasted by WineGuyFL on 6/26/2017 & rated 92 points: I agree in general with other recent reviewers......but this bottle tasted a little tight. I think I will let the other bottle I have sit for a while. (1012 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 6/14/2017 & rated 93 points: Popped 'N Poured with 9 others from my wine group, in a "Big Red" tasting. 6 wines. This was my favorite wine of the night, although for some, it was just too extracted and too alcoholic. I had it with a cheeseburger and it was a great match. (1124 views)
Tasted by seijaro on 4/10/2017 & rated 93 points: Another huge Martinelli Zin in the Helen Turley style. A big bowl of cherries sprinkled with cinnamon and a bit of pepper, long finish. I'm thinking it will be 95 in a few years, am looking forward to it.. (1218 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 4/7/2017 & rated 92 points: My second bottle and again one of the more intense and dynamics zins out there. On the nose spicy berry, sweet crushed berry, wet sweet tobacco and cherry herring. Palate shows acid and structure with a long and intense finish. Primary flavor profile of crushed sweet black fruit, blackberry, sweet blueberry syrup, touches of pencil shaving, sweat oak. A massive flavor profile yet not cloying which is surprising given the alcohol content. (952 views)
Tasted by Mike Dildine on 2/10/2017 & rated 92 points: A's previously noted, really outstanding RRV Zin. (1051 views)
Tasted by RobbieC on 1/2/2017: Super zin. Agree with previous review by "T.E.D." and note that the 16% alcohol is showing. Dark fruits, spice, juicy finish and really enjoyable. Probably needs a few years to settle and hit it's stride. Pair with food now to really enjoy as the alcohol content doesn't reward stand alone drinking. Very nice wine. (771 views)
Tasted by T.E.D. on 11/6/2016 & rated 91 points: A rambunctious and massive Zinfandel. On the nose hints of crushed red berries, zany earth, greenery, and touches of guitar. Prickly alcohol as well which is not surprising given the percentage year. The wine is still clearly very young on the palate, showing taught ripe red fruit, Green Forest, decayed earth and brush. A unique zin and worth seeking out. (967 views)
Tasted by Mike Dildine on 10/12/2016 & rated 93 points: Really delicious RRV Zin. (970 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
