Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.9 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by pdadams66 on 2/27/2021 & rated 91 points: Deep dark center, red/purple rim with a very little sign of age.
Sweet, blueberries, cassis, very slight VA (adds character), a little buttery, iron, some more lifted raspberry coulis on the finish.
Smooth, great fruit - plum, blackberry, nice toasty oak, good tannin and acidity, green olives, long finish.
Excellent Harrison Cab, intense, good now with air, but will be better in 2-5 years. (495 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 2/3/2021 & rated 93 points: This wine has upside potential. It is probably 3 or 4 years from the top. These cabs seem to really be at their impressive state between 10 and 15 years, but this one definitely did not disappoint tonight. Served with Greek food, the very dense black cherry and volcanic property was very apparent in this wine. Black cherry cassis, herbal influence. Actually still very youthful and acidic entry, and the finish was a slight bit truncated I believe due to the stiff tannic character. I do look for this one to soften a bit on the front, and round out on the back in just a few short years. I would say the optimal drinking would be 2023 to 2024. I didn't decant this one, which was probably my biggest problem. If I had to cancel for about 2 hours, it probably would have shown better. Either way, it was gone within about 30 minutes between two drinkers, so......... Definitely worth owning or seeking out. (686 views)
Tasted by Lawino7 on 11/24/2019 & rated 93 points: The color of royalty for which Odysseus coined the phrase the wine dark sea. Nose of plums and berries. Round mouth feel with faint notes of lavender. Allow decant time, drinking well now yet will live well for 3-5 years more. (735 views)
Tasted by HOS on 1/1/2019 & rated 92 points: PnP. Smooth, currant and herbs. Nice finish. (971 views)
Tasted by Woodbridge Brad on 9/21/2018 flawed bottle: From a 3 liter at Dr. Antonio Petrelli-Minetti memorial service Wm Harrison and my wife’s uncle. The bottle was super and was used as a toast to the passing of a generation. (1041 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 8/14/2018 & rated 95 points: This wine is in a GOOD spot right now. CT Average 93, and I'd say that this is about right but a bit low. 93-95 as this one still has probably 7-8 years before it is pop and pour. Acidic at the opening, but the patience (which we didn't have) would have served us well. Cabernet power from the front. Blackberry preserves, hint of mint, white pepper, hint of clove, middle that goes a little bit herbal, but still very considerable black fruit. Finishes strong, with pepper, spice. I know the last 750 I have is in danger, and hopefully I can also lay off the mag for at least a couple of years. (975 views)
Tasted by Deepfriedgrapes on 4/7/2018: Fantastic. (1035 views)
Tasted by Fractalage on 2/28/2018: Plenty of new oak on the nose, vanilla on the palate, tartaric additions, puckering tannic finish.
Skip. (979 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 6/27/2017 & rated 93 points: Needs 3 years in bottle. Double decanted this wine, which helped considerably! This wine poured a dusty rose color into the glass. Black cherry dominated the nose, but there was also some blackberry and graphite. The entry showed a blackberry front, a little darker and floral in the middle. Finish is also quite floral, still rather acidic and lots of stiff oak tannin. Dusty and shale stone rich finish. Enjoyable classic Rutherford cab that doesn't try to be something it isn't. GREAT family owned boutique winery off the Silverado Trail. I cannot possibly sound more like a broken record then what I do giving my complete and total support to this Winery who puts heart and soul into everything they do. Pride shows in every bottle. Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
