| Community Tasting Notes (average 92 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 101 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by djlevin on 4/26/2024 & rated 89 points: Past its prime. The fruit is raisin jam. Medium acid and medium minus tannin. Not unpleasant, but no longer a food wine. Drink to appreciate the complexity developed with age. I should know better than to age a Napa Valley wine longer than 10 years. What a shame, and I enjoyed this wine so much on release! (73 views) | | Tasted by rwerner on 7/9/2023 & rated 95 points: Was concerned it might be too old but beautiful nose , delicious on the mouth and a smooth velvety finish. Still have one more in my cellar. Highest score i have given in quite a while. (441 views) | | Tasted by Rbtrage on 6/20/2023 & rated 93 points: A great wine that paired well with a bacon cheese burger. Never had a bad wine from this winery. (381 views) | | Tasted by Hamersly on 12/28/2020 & rated 93 points: Gorgeous nose, dense and silky with smooth tannins. No rush to drink. (1685 views) | | Tasted by Empirate on 5/17/2020: Came across as over ripe, imbalanced and hot. Not too young but time is unlikely to improve it. Auction bottle, no obvious flaw. If rating, 86. (1959 views) | | Tasted by hanasowner on 11/9/2019 & rated 92 points: Benefited from opening 3-4 hours before pouring...best showing of three bottles consumed thus far...youthful and silky with dark fruit, floral notes and spice...integrated tannins and a smooth, 30+ seconds finish. (1922 views) | | Tasted by der Schmecker on 10/12/2019: Mountain fruit holds up well. Ten years old and tasting quite nice without too much tannin, but conversely, without too much fruit either. Bit astringent, not much middle flavor, almost immediately goes from tip of the tongue to the back of throat. Wish I had opened it up a few years earlier, but still nice. No points. (1754 views) | | Tasted by MJMorris55 on 9/29/2019 & rated 91 points: Very nice Cab Franc from a magnum acquired direct from Pride on release. Too many folks to get tasting notes but this wine has matured beautifully. (1361 views) | | Tasted by Night Train on 4/5/2019 & rated 90 points: This followed an outrageously priced Bordeaux blend and an even more extravagant St. Emilion, so it suffered a little in comparison. Even so, it smelled, felt, and tasted like...a Pride Cabernet Franc (which is pretty high praise). Rich berries, nice texture, and a very good finish. However, it also paled in comparison to a bottle of it that I had a year and a half ago, so I suspect that it has passed its peak. (1062 views) | | Tasted by Tetherton on 4/3/2019 & rated 93 points: The wine was terrific!! The nose was blueberries and blackberries. The mouthfeel was silky and lingering. The flavor profile was plum, blackberry and a hint of cassis. (1107 views) | | Tasted by tfesmgk on 12/25/2018 & rated 91 points: Very nice wine. Not a lot of green herbs but nice balance between a cab and a Syrah. Fruit but also spice. I think it still has time in the bottle. (999 views) | | Tasted by gteran76 on 7/29/2018 & rated 93 points: I’m not a fan of Cab Franc and this one really surprised me. Not overpowering with nice balance and decent finish. (1740 views) | | Tasted by MC2 Wines on 11/22/2017: Enjoyed with some Mexican food and funnily enough it was a really nice pairing. PnP'ed and at first it was fairly shut down and quiet. Left to air in the bottle for a few hours and it became quite expressive. As someone else mentioned this is very much in the fruit-oriented style of cab franc. There's no real greenness, but there is a bit of almost brambles and leaves as an undercurrent which keeps the fruit from feeling too over the top. Very well integrated and not sure it's going to get a lot better, but did feel like it had a lot of life left. (1647 views) | | Tasted by Night Train on 11/19/2017 & rated 92 points: Consistent with a bottle just two weeks ago. Absolutely delicious. Reasonably well balanced right now, but I suspect that its days are numbered. (1532 views) | | Tasted by Night Train on 11/10/2017 & rated 92 points: Took this to a party, where people went nuts over it. Nice enough nose, but it was extremely rich on the palate, and it showed a solid finish. Biggest impressions were spiciness and plushness. Not sure if it's all that great with food, but it's flat-out delicious on its own. Pretty well balanced, but the tannins were quite subdued, so I think it's probably best consumed within the next year or so. (1481 views) | | Tasted by pommieba@cox.net on 10/6/2017 & rated 94 points: Last one which is a shame - Decanted for 4 hours. Woody Herbaceous nose. Medium body with soft tennis and well balanced. Integrated fruit of cherry with a hint of vanilla and white pepper.Nice long finish a really good Cab Franc. (1563 views) | | Tasted by FLI on 1/28/2017 & rated 90 points: A bit hot, but really nice fruit, and the tannins are PERFECT! (1987 views) | | Tasted by roybivens on 12/10/2016 & rated 93 points: Very enjoyable. Creamy, just as I had remembered it from the tasting room at Pride. Still holding up well, with remaining tannins. I think it has a little more time left beyond the projected 2017 date by WS. Enjoyed with roasted Mahi Mahi. Score [ 50 + 13 + 17 + 8 ] = 92. (1823 views) | | Tasted by dougie on 10/12/2016 & rated 92 points: Big and beautiful without being sweet or cloying. Seems to have a few years left. (1877 views) | | Tasted by Dr. Claret on 9/2/2016 & rated 93 points: Well integrated fruit,!with medium tannins Velvety with chocolate and cedar. Lovely wine. Still has a few years left. (2024 views) | | Tasted by MC2 Wines on 5/5/2016: Wanted to check in on this since it's been a few years and we have quite a few of them. Opened, decanted for prob ~1 hr and drank side by side with a 2001 Henscke Mt Edelstone. Of the two, I was in the Henscke camp although I watched the table a bit to see what people were drinking down and it seemed to be more of a split read. This was certainly lovely - standard Napa mountain fruit, good pepper in there, a bit woodsy. Well balance and a very nice pairing with a grass fed strip steak. (1684 views) | | Tasted by MC2 Wines on 2/27/2016: Q1 Tasting - Cabernet Franc wines (Our Apt): Wine #2: Drank as part of a blind tasting of Cabernet Franc. Opened this about six hours before pouring and let it slow ox for that time. This was a much heavier wine than #1 (an Owen Roe CF) although they had some of the same flavors, just balanced differently. The Pride was very fruit forward - lots of black cherries to the point where it almost tasted sweet. A slightly quicker finish though on the end. Very tasty, but there were some other more nuanced wines that I liked better during the day. (4 pennies) (2357 views) | | Tasted by FLI on 8/3/2015 & rated 90 points: Slightly overheated, but still a very nice franc. Soft fruit predominates - not much tannic structure or depth here. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson North CoastThe North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties.
