| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 7 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Wrkolbeck on 3/17/2024 & rated 89 points: A nice surprise, given a 90+ min decant, showing fairly bright, tart red fruit (raspberry, cranberry), nice acidity & structure. Medium finish. Even better on day 2. (71 views) | | Tasted by Wrkolbeck on 1/18/2024 & rated 88 points: Quite unbalanced on cork pull with very pronounced tannins. Needed 60-90 min to soften up but was still a bit edgy. (102 views) | | Tasted by Jsdaxe on 12/26/2023 & rated 92 points: Really nice bottle with Christmas Wellington, and was better than our similar tasting two years ago (4 hour decant). This was softer overall but still had enough structure to lead me to believe it will still be in its prime for another two years. Alas, this was my last bottle so I will never know. (113 views) | | Tasted by S Street Gang on 10/2/2022: Agree with other review, still very tannic, kind of surprising for a Cab Franc, enjoyed this wine but I bet it could stand to have a few more years in the bottle. (764 views) | | Tasted by Jsdaxe on 12/26/2021 & rated 91 points: Was still very tannic on opening but softened a lot after a four hour decant. Was excellent with a very nice filet (1078 views) |
| Schweiger Vineyards Producer websiteCabernet Franc Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wines & Vines articleUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Spring Mountain DistrictWikipedia article on the Spring Mountain Distric AVA. |
