(975 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 4/9/2017 & rated 88 points: Light purple color. Smells of sweet plums and juicy red cherries topped with leather, pepper, sage and eucalyptus. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity and moderate tannins. Red plums and raspberry mixes with a host of roasted herbs, eucalyptus, pine smoke and roses. Complex but accessible with a fresh, vibrant finish. 46% Shiraz, 31% Cinsault, 20% Mourvedre, 3% Grenache. (1707 views) | | Tasted by Christine Havens on 3/29/2017 & rated 90 points: This is a new brand—yet to be released, and one that I see as part of the growing trend combining wine and philanthropy. Cape Venture was founded by two young men who fell in love with South Africa’s rugged wine scene. They have pledged to give 50% of the winery’s profits to back the Pebbles Project, an NGO that works with the low-income families who live and work on South Africa’s wine farms. A slightly unruly blend of 46% Shiraz, 32% Cinsault, 20% Mourvedre and 3% Grenache, it’s positively brimming with musky black cherries, spiced apple rings, fig newtons, earth, sweet tobacco, and a whiff of vanilla. It’s leaner than expected, with a savory palate built around a core of high-toned sour cherries and fine tannins. Lubanzi wines should be available soon at Whole Foods. (932 views) | | Tasted by Millennial Drinkers on 3/12/2017 & rated 87 points: Medium to light ruby red. A little tight to start on the nose with some cinnamon, red berries, a little floral and a touch savory. Moderate tannins (5/10) and medium bodied. Tight berries on the palate and a bit dark too. Spiced herbs and a little perfumey, a touch green too with olives. Some dried berries and metallic notes in the medium length finish. Decent structure. Great value at only $14.99 and good intro to an affordable South African Rhone Blend in the States. Drink till 2020. (1796 views) |
