Tasted by gilrbo on 2/17/2024: Opened about two hours in advance, then drunk over dinner. No TN, from memory.
Pungent nose at first, with the alcohol quite prominent. With time it quiets down, becomes more balanced and interesting, showing lovely Nebbiolo fruit and nice complexity, even though not quite at the level of their Baroli. The palate is surprisingly rich, then over the course of the dinner it also finds a better balance and shows more subtle notes on top of the bold fruit. Wonderful Langhe Nebbiolo. (318 views)
Tasted by rlove on 7/7/2023 & rated 89 points: Heavy on the balsamic characteristics with balsam and red fruit on the palate. Nearly resolved tannins but still quite a suggestion of body. Good but I think I would have enjoyed this a tad younger. (858 views)
Tasted by wineswithmuscles on 12/1/2022: Bold and darkish-balsamic, with a purple touch. Rich in the mouthfeel with velvety elements and underlying earthy and tarry notes. A real joy to drink today with its generous bouquet. (938 views)
Tasted by jrick on 6/5/2022 & rated 93 points: Three years ago I thought maybe this was best just after release but here again it is absolutely wonderful. Had that sanded down structure, but still red and fresh with some of the fruitful appeal now enveloped in the silk of early maturity. I think this is as good as it will ever be, or at least close to it, so drink in the next three years but don’t panic. (1361 views)
Tasted by mattstolz11 on 7/31/2021 & rated 93 points: Anniversary wine! decanted about an hour before tasting and in a great place right now. paired with an array of things but best was chanterelle pasta. a really nice Nebbiolo with some good complexity but holding onto the fruit nicely at this stage. (1899 views)
Tasted by acidqueen on 5/23/2021 & rated 91 points: Nice balance. Easy to drink although with faint tannins still there. Great acid for drinking with rich food (in this case a butter fried breaded veal cutlet). Good now, will last a couple years but no reason to wait longer with the right food. Not an aperitif wine though. (2053 views)
Tasted by lightning on 5/21/2021 & rated 89 points: Ripe red fruit predominant on the nose, some notes of dried rose and tar as well. Drying acidity and full-bodied tannins, the fruit has dropped away and the wine is quite savoury, tar and dried-herb flavours. (1838 views)
Tasted by sooper65 on 1/9/2021 & rated 89 points: This was a tad stewed... New Worldy
Good, not great (1841 views)
Tasted by jrick on 8/25/2019 & rated 91 points: Immediately drinking well after pulling the cork. Quite fresh, raspberries, cherries and violet candy but also medicinal on the palate. On day two more structured, still good but a little more roses and tar. I don’t know, maybe the rising prices have inflated my expectations but my previous bottle two years ago impressed me much more. Regardless of price, good for its appellation level. (2589 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 8/15/2019 & rated 92 points: Coravin. Pale clear ruby; very high intensity aromatics, wild strawberries, red berries, roses, floral, youthful; palate is light bodied, high tannins but they don't kick in until the midpalate, approachable mouthfeel, juicy elegant red fruit throughout, high acidity in complete balance; finish is medium to medium-plus length. Not the most complex, but deep flavors and aromas and great crispness and purity of its components. A superb Nebbiolo, enjoyable even now, and actually worth the $65 I paid for it. 92
Next glass a few days later from Coravin: just as good. I’m struck by the balance and elegance. It’s not the most complex but it is well built, balanced, elegant, and perfect with food now. (2240 views)
Tasted by axisx on 7/7/2019 & rated 93 points: All red fruit and flowers, beguilingly sweet and open, without going over the top. The structure is very much there, but hidden under the velvety fruit. long. (1992 views)
Tasted by Bourgognefreak on 3/22/2019 & rated 90 points: Light and transparent colour. Fruity and with pleasant tannins making this wine aperfect companion to Italian food. (2384 views)
Tasted by KimHartman on 1/26/2019 flawed bottle: Corked (1645 views)
Tasted by KimHartman on 1/26/2019 & rated 92 points: Refreshing and soft with lots of red fruit. Drink or hold. (2145 views)
Tasted by ttholst on 9/4/2018 & rated 93 points: Rett i glasset. (2247 views)
Tasted by asgerG on 7/6/2018 & rated 88 points: D1h. Light red, 4. Rather neutral merely vinous in both nose and palate. Not faulty but lacking character. Perhaps further aging will reveal interesting stuff? (2451 views)
Tasted by cct on 5/13/2018 & rated 92 points: At da Cesare

Ripe cherry fruit and roses. Lovely perfume. On the palate it's fresh and clean, pure nebbiolo fruit, with some sense of sap with depth, yet a simultaneous softness, with some balsamic hints on the back end. Good acidity keeps it fresh, and I think this warmer year makes this more approachable and less serious than more structured years of this bottling, and I do not mean that in a pejorative sense. In some vintages, this bottling could and likely should be treated like a baby Barolo, but in this year, it really sings as a Langhe nebbiolo, more like a fantastic Langhe nebbiolo that is both complicated and interesting, yet very easy to drink. A great compliment to the table. Well done! (2756 views)
Tasted by Bourgognefreak on 1/2/2018 & rated 91 points: Very light and transparent. Cool razorsharp fruit in abundance. Cherry - a bit sour but excellent with Italian pasta. (2739 views)
Tasted by Superjojo57 on 12/2/2017 & rated 90 points: Très joli nez à la Reynaud, robe claire.
En bouche le vin est fin et élégant, dans le style Rinaldi, avec une trame acide de belle longueur.
Grande buvabilité . À 20 euros parfait (2637 views)
Tasted by micsauer on 11/29/2017 & rated 90 points: Super classic Langhe Nebbiolo, clear, bright, medium-high acidity and a muted but great nose of cherries, tar and other red fruits. Needs time, even on day two still closed/muted. 90++ (2487 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 11/7/2017: Took a bit to get rolling and then became a nice light and enjoyable Langhe Nebbiollo. Very good but short of the fireworks from Bartolo Mascarello's version of this in the same vintage. (2466 views)
Tasted by Brohan Polanski on 9/25/2017 & rated 92 points: Pretty ok (2263 views)
Tasted by kevinacohn on 9/23/2017: Finished the previous day’s bottle. What a difference 24 hours of air made—you could smell the wine from across the room when it was poured! This experience closely tracks what Wine Strategies reported in his note. A super-classic almost-Barolo. Cherries, roses, and balsamic notes. Clean and pure, absolutely nothing is out of place. Cellar for a few years or double-decant 12+ hours before drinking. (2259 views)
Tasted by kevinacohn on 9/22/2017: Surprisingly light—I was expecting a somewhat brooding tannic monster, an indication of its potential. Even after four hours of air it’s not showing much of anything; although the material is in the glass, the bouquet is muted and the palate is flat. I put the cork back in the bottle and will revisit with dinner tomorrow, hoping for a better showing. (2102 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 9/8/2017 & rated 90 points: Tasted during visit. From the warmer 2015 vintage. Expressive and radiant notes of violets, dark red cherries, but also sweet red strawberries. It's medium+ bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. Good length. It's open, radiant and accessible, but next to the other wines in the line-up almost feels a little bit clumsy. (2566 views)

Giuseppe Rinaldi

Fine Wine Geek Giuseppe Rinaldi page

GIUSEPPE RINALDI

A family-run production company, it exclusively produces grapes produced from its own vineyards. At the beginning of the 19th century, Battista Rinaldi was a cultivator of some vineyards of the Feudo of the Marquises Falletti di Barolo. Later he became a farmer owner and, initially, a seller of the grapes produced. Later, with his sons, he became a winemaker and bottler. The same company tradition, of character and craft dimensions, today continues with Giuseppe Rinaldi and the fifth and sixth generation daughters. The company produces Barolo for about 60% (Brunate vineyards, Le Coste, Cannubi-San Lorenzo, Ravera) and for the rest, Piedmontese wines such as Dolcetto d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba, Nebbiolo and Freisa delle Langhe, Ruchè.

Giuseppe Rinaldi Nebbiolo Langhe

LANGHE NEBBIOLO

Nebbiolo Rinaldi is in fact a mini-Barolo, since the grapes come from the same vineyards and are processed in a similar way to that of the more prestigious denomination, with the exception of the aging time.
Produced from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the thirty-five-year-old vineyards owned by the “Citric” Beppe Rinaldi; the soils are composed of the typical clay-limestone marl of the Langhe at an average altitude of 300 m / slm. After fermentation the wine is left to macerate on the skins, followed by aging in oak barrels for 18 months.

Colour: Intense ruby red
Scent: Elegant, floreal, of geranium, fruity, of small red, wild, spicy and mineral fruits
Taste: Sparkling, fresh, savory and thin tannins

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
