Community Tasting Notes (average 90.1 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by llink on 3/18/2012: Popped and poured. Richard correctly ID'd the toasty roast coffee nose, and his note is spot on. The palate showed some sweetness but not much depth, or tension. It seemed well done and certainly a good price performer, and you know it is from Bordeaux which is a plus. In a nutshell this wine strikes me as simple but pleasurable in its category. (3209 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 4/10/2011 & rated 90 points: Very dark purple red violet color; oak, medium toast, roast coffee, black fruit, plum nose; tart plum, toasty oak, berry, roast coffee palate with good concentration, firm sweet tannins and low acidity; ready to drink now but has the body and concentration to age for 4-5 years; medium-plus finish (decent value for $25) (1072 views)
Tasted by llink on 8/27/2009: Popped and poured and enjoyed over 2 nights. Better on night 2, as the palate seemed to soften and the tannins became more velvetey. The nose displays char, smoke, sweet vanilla and black fruits. The palate is medium full, with some spicy components. Mid palate is a little hollow, but the finish is better and of medium length. Good buy for $20, not sure if it is ever going to show much complexity. (3507 views)
Tasted by pfr on 2/6/2009 & rated 88 points: Pleasant surprise and nice uptick over a Mirambeau a few years back. Red fruit, slight tar and smoke. It's hard to find a balanced, interesting Bordeaux for under $20 -- this is the best at this price I've had in quite a while. Worthy of 1/2 case purchase. (3696 views)
Tasted by groper1234 on 11/21/2008 & rated 87 points: Smells perfume, but black fruits, good concentration. On the palate, medium bodied, quite sweet, dry and chalky. Tannins are firmish and likely to be better in 2 to 3 years. For me this is slightly over ripen and touch hot. But not bad for money (3499 views)
Tasted by johnwine on 4/28/2008 & rated 88 points: Upon tasting this wine again I would rate it a little higher based on its freshness and comjplexity. (3151 views)
Tasted by llink on 4/11/2008: Robert Parker describes 2005 as a “perfect vintage” for Red Bordeaux. Château Tour de Mirambeau is in the heartland of Bordeaux,
south of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. You may remember their 2000 and 2003 “Cuvée Passion.” This is its
successor, the 2005 “Grand Vin.”
It shows a saturated, brilliant ruby/purple color. the nose is reticent but with swirling reveals currants and some well integrated clean oak notes. On the palate, it displays impeccable balance, with ripe,
gorgeously taut fruit flavors, excellent concentration, refined tannins, and tremendous length. It impresses more
with its class and purity of flavor than its size. (1529 views)
Tasted by johnwine on 11/29/2007 & rated 87 points: This wine is a medium straw in color. The nose is very floral ala a semillion with some sauvignon blanc with wildflowers, jasmine and citrus. The taste is of medium scale with flavors of orange peel, lime and lemon. (976 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
