| Community Tasting Notes (average 88 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by goodvitis.com on 6/30/2017 & rated 89 points: The nose offers faint smoke, juicy red plum, bright cranberry, cinnamon and orange rind. The palate is medium in stature with dense, chewy tannins and bright acidity. The flavors are dominated at the moment by leather, dark tobacco, smoke, boysenberries and black cherries. There's some green flavors in the background along with lavender and white pepper. The profile is beautiful, but it lacks in concentration and a bit lighter than it could achieve. That said, it's still a clenched wine and when the tannins release and spread out, the wine could fill out a bit and really develop into something fantastic. Layered aromas of plums and black cherries form the foundation, with lively spice and incense notes gliding over the top. On the palate, fruit is restrained by mouth-coating tannins and a subtle earthiness that picks up momentum at the back palate along with cedar and dried herbs. Sample | 14.0% ABV (608 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 4/17/2017 & rated 87 points: Douro Samples: Bright purple. Nose of dark plums, black cherry, violets, dark earth and charcoal, pencil lead, sweet herbs and some vanilla. Medium-full-bodied with moderate acidity and a fleshy texture with some dusty but grippy tannins. Dark plums and black currant fruit, deep but fresh, with tones of charcoal, iron, vanilla, and cedar. Structure for a few years but this begs for summer 2017 grill-outs. Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão, aged in concrete vats and old French oak casks for nine months. (850 views) |
