| Community Tasting Notes (average 91.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 3 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 8/7/2019 flawed bottle: A Night of Aged California Zins (Dino's Grotto - Washington, DC): Yikes, this is a Sherried, Madeirized wreck. In a feat of palate masochism, I made myself taste it after realizing how messed up it was on the nose, just to have another point of reference in the wine fault memory. The wine was not pleasant in any way. (592 views) | | Tasted by buckeye76 on 10/31/2009 & rated 91 points: BLACK CHERRIES, LICORICE, AND RASPBERRIES IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH. (651 views) | | Tasted by tcfishler on 7/27/2007 & rated 92 points: Deep yet fiery red with just a thin garnet rim, a very youthful appearing. A complete forest of a nose that is mature yet fresh, with wet leaves and bark, hardwood aromas and mushrooms, along with cocoa and licoricey spiciness. Fairly intense and driving, with dusty tannins that contribute to a slightly coarse texture but can't stop the finish from going on and on. A wine of rugged constitution that gives a definite mountain vibe. The fruit, well in the background at first, grew deeper with more air. This is in it for the long haul. (1853 views) |
| Storybook Mountain Vineyards Producer websiteZinfandel ZAP: Zinfandel Advocates & Producers | Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wikipedia-ZinfandelUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
