Tasted by NapaGuy69 on 4/15/2024 & rated 89 points: Plenty of fruit, but lacking many secondary characteristics, a bit boring (492 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 3/29/2024 & rated 90 points: Plenty of red fruit on the front of the palate, finishing with drying herbal flavors. Well balanced. Drink now. (500 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 3/23/2024 & rated 92 points: Ruby red in color. 14% ABV. From a variety of vineyards including Kanzler, Gap’s Crown and Bootlegger’s Hill. Rustic nose of dark fruit, cloves and forest floor. Medium body with medium to strong acidity. Earthy and brooding. Black cherry, plums, earth and minerals on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. My favorite KB’s lean more lush and red fruited but this still drinks really well. Best over the next 1-2 years. (587 views)
Tasted by brasstab on 2/4/2024 & rated 94 points: I know Kosta can be overrated, but this one deserves it. Maybe I was just in a mood, maybe it's perfectly aged, but the so-called "basic" Sonoma Coast fired on all cylinders. Strawberries and cherries on a magic carpet of earth and rain. (1318 views)
Tasted by pmarlo on 12/9/2023 & rated 91 points: Good bouquet when opened. Color light burgundy and lighter at rim. Legs took awhile to start and ran medium fast. Funky nose, smelled this before but can't place. Doesn't affect taste. Tannins when swished and active on side of cheeks. I refer to mouth cheeks, not...never mind. When sipped not as apparent. Dark black fruit profile, blackberry. Medium body. Looks pretty in glass under light. Still opening up. Keep reaching for more. Not as heavy as in past years. This may be either due to vintage or winemaker preference. Nice wine. Different than previous vintages, not as concentrated, and initially felt more dilute. But after two days opened its just more delicate an light on its feet. More like Martinelli in that respect. Stand by my word it's a nice wine. (1561 views)
Tasted by JayAAllen on 10/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Subtle fruit. Earthy notes. Drinking perfectly. (2378 views)
Tasted by jmottern on 10/8/2023 & rated 91 points: Dark red big body (14%) wine. Pleasant nose. Smooth plum and blackberry fruit followed by an average finish. (2070 views)
Tasted by DDWW on 8/24/2023: Excellent But Donna said to hold this last bottle until 2024 (2381 views)
Tasted by milmil121212 on 8/21/2023 & rated 90 points: Perfectly nice bottle of wine. Decanted for 90 minutes. Inky purple in the glass. Some red fruit and a touch of herbs on the nose. Medium+ body. More red fruit and herbs in the mouth. Tangy candied orange-ish acidity that drives toward the finish. Smooth and sweet (almost a touch syrupy}. Good balance (structure). Some distracting oak.

Not sure I understand these wines from a value perspective. I feel like there are numerous other options that deliver far more complexity for less money. That said it was a crowd pleaser with the grilled pork chops. (1948 views)
Tasted by VINNICK on 7/17/2023 & rated 92 points: Consistently good. (1916 views)
Tasted by jmottern on 7/9/2023 & rated 92 points: Smooth balanced dark red medium body wine. Nice nose followed by plum, dark cherry and raisin fruit. Very pleasant finish. (1275 views)
Tasted by jmottern on 7/9/2023 & rated 91 points: Medium body dark red wine. Nice bouquet. Soft plum and black cherry fruit. Not as big as KB Russian River. Nice finish. (1129 views)
Tasted by DaninClearwater on 6/13/2023 & rated 92 points: better after two hours (1334 views)
Tasted by VinoAddict on 4/27/2023: A lovely, velvety mouthfeel and lots of fresh, juicy red fruits. This was very enjoyable, though I did feel like some depth was missing, from both acidity and secondary flavors. I suspect this will age well, but if you enjoy a smooth, easy to drink and very fruit-driven Pinot, don't hesitate to pop the cork. (1759 views)
Tasted by MJP Hou TX on 4/23/2023 & rated 92 points: sunday funday with friends.

This bottle was pulled in the 8th inning so no formal notes but just impression.

Fully in secondary & tertiary development. On the savory spectrum with less fruit. Great transition away form the Chenin Blancs and Champagne that had been pulled for the seafood cioppino.

This will continue to age well not sure the outcome will be any better in doing so.

Drink or hold.

Tasted by cchoukal on 3/18/2023: This was delicious, but not that interesting. Lots of fruit, velvety mouthfeel, texture for days, and a real pleasure to drink. I tend to like a little more acidity, a little more savory/earth, and for Sonoma coast, more of that effervescent/eucalyptus thing. Overall, this was lovely. (2063 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 3/7/2023: Tasted over 1 hr
-nearly semi-translucent deep black cherry red
-expressive funk stems rhubarb dusty cherry barrel spice
-med acidity, med weight slightly off varnishy VA doesn't completely detract from pretty red berry spice, finishes with some heat and ripe sweet med tannins and noticeable wood
-has some funky vibes going for it (2250 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 12/18/2022 & rated 92 points: A nose of cherries and spice, medium amber in color. A medium to full bodied Pinot, with currants, cherries, some dust and spice on finish, in a good drinking zone. www.winelx.com (3721 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 12/8/2022 & rated 92 points: WIML92

Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of birch, white pepper, black cherries and black boysenberries. Flavors of black raspberries, black boysenberries and black cherries. Medium to tart acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink over the short term. (3435 views)
Tasted by HoltWiners on 12/2/2022 & rated 90 points: A little harsh after letting it breathe. Incredible by the last sip. Not my fav from KB but definitely a bottle to have on hand. (3402 views)
Tasted by Winokdub on 11/19/2022 & rated 91 points: Solid kosta showing but not the fav of the night. Probably will last several more years and could be interesting to see this one in 3 plus years when it hits into the tertiary zone. (2884 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 8/31/2022 & rated 92 points: WIML92

Tasted non blind.

Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of birch, black berries, black cherries and a bit of fresh cut flowers. Flavors of black raspberries, black cherries and dark plums. Medium to tart acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink over the short term. Maybe into the medium term? (5734 views)
Tasted by Hojun-na-Wine on 8/17/2022: Nose of cranberry, wet clay, red apple skin, sage, subtle cloves.

On the palate sour cherry, cranberry, apple skin and a driving mineral tone.

The wine has great balance with fresh acidity framed by integrated tannins. It’s in a great place right now and should keep for another few years.

Really impressed by this vintage. I like how KB started moving away from their previous level of extraction. It’s helping to bring out a better sense of place. (4497 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
