Tasted by joseph120 on 2/22/2021: Major structure to this wine, with almost rough tannins, and bordering on bitter tannins. But it's ok for me as I don't mind bold wines, and the mid-palate has enough delicious black fruit to counter the finish - and I know I'll generally have to pay 2-3 times the price of this wine to get a lot more finesse.  Tasted by soon.wine on 12/27/2020 & rated 90 points: Red fruit, tar, mild tannins, med finish. Thoroughly enjoyable. (2001 views)
Tasted by gnsti on 12/1/2020 & rated 80 points: 달큰한 연유, 바닐라, 바나나 등의 전형적인 미국 오크 숙성향이 나고, 첫맛은 묵직한 탄닌이 탁 치고 올라왔다. 시간이 지나면 점점 부드러워지고 잔당감도 약간 생긴다. 풀바디이지만 부드럽게 막 마시기 좋다. (2009 views)
Tasted by bjschmitt on 11/1/2020 & rated 89 points: Served with grilled steak, baked potato, roast carrots.
Opened 1 hour prior to drinking, decanted 30 minutes prior.
Medium dark ruby.
Touch of fennel on nose and palate. Wine is dry but not austere. An enjoyable wine. (2073 views)
Tasted by Worldb on 9/7/2020 & rated 90 points: Delicious after an hour. Ripe juicy blackberry and fine mouth coating tannins with a long finish. Had with beef tenderloin... bargain...if costco has more of the 2016 I would get some more...still plenty of life. (2363 views)
Tasted by RayT on 5/4/2020 & rated 90 points: Every year I find my favorite $20 and under bottle. It has been the 2009, 2010 Louis Martini Sonoma cab, 2012, 2013 Daou cab, and the 2014, 2015 CS Wine of Substance. In 2016 it is this Louis Martini Sonoma cab. I have drank well over a case of this stuff, super consistent. Ruby in color, medium to full bodied with just a touch of heat on the nose. Cassis, blackberry, cherry, and tobacco on the finish. One of my favorite wine profiles. While you can drink this as a pnp this was really singing at the 3 hour mark. My daily drinkers are usually in the $40-$50 range. Many nights I think this wine is as good as or better than half of those. A great buy. (1974 views)
Tasted by LEEJV123 on 4/27/2020 & rated 87 points: Medium body, herbal, angular. (1440 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 12/15/2019 & rated 90 points: 1 1/2 hour decant (mag decanter). Nose: Traces of dust aromas with black fruits and sweet cassis. Palate: Pretty big tannins for this level of Cab. Flavors of sweet blackberry tempered by just enough tannin and acid to keep it in check. Light medium finish. Over delivers for less than $15. Great QPR. Thanks to my friend Rocknroller for his notes inspiring me to decant this...pushes the score to 90. (2140 views)
Tasted by ccarter5181 on 11/29/2019 & rated 88 points: Pop and pour. Full bodied with nice dark fruit. Mostly primary at this point. Maybe a longer decant or more cellar time will bring out some secondary elements. (1925 views)
Tasted by aarun on 10/19/2019 & rated 85 points: This was gift from my friend Anurag which he got while moving from California. The wine tasted ok. (1728 views)
Tasted by Glenn Gilbert on 8/22/2019 & rated 93 points: 14.5% alcohol; light to medium-weight foil, composite cork, fast legs, dark ruby red/black; the label explains the winery's watchword: good grapes make good wine, in this case what must be some of Sonoma's outstanding Cabernet grapes; nose of alcohol (surprisingly muted in view of its relatively high percentage), cherries, blackberries, raspberries, darkly fruit-forward; I opened the wine and let it stand for 18 hours at room temperature, then tasted at room temperature (approximately 26 degrees C); full bodied, again darkly fruit-forward, notes of stone fruit, pears, kiwi, a terrific food wine, pair with practically anything savory, I'm thinking here especially of lamb; good mouthfeel, good finish; a terrific buy in view of its price (1976 views)
Tasted by thewiz on 8/10/2019 & rated 90 points: Red colour with a blue red rim. Youthful nose showing a touch of oak combined with red berries and some vanilla notes. Austere tannins on the youthful palate focused on primary fruit before showing warmth on the well balanced lengthy finish. (1116 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 7/17/2019 & rated 88 points: Dark red color with purple hue. Ordered off list at Johnny's. PNP, drank a glass over 90 minutes. Drinking surprisingly well for its youth. Dark berry fruits, cassis and black cherry, green pepper, light vanilla, graphite and dusty tannin on a medium full bodied frame. I could see this picking up a point or 2 in a couple years. Always a great value. (2141 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 7/11/2019 & rated 88 points: Bunch of Samples: Light purple color. The nose shows plum sauce, black cherries and currants, warm but fresh fruit, mixed well with anise, cocoa, tobacco and vanilla. Full-bodied with a smooth, suave yet fresh appeal. Juicy and fresh black cherries, plum and cassis. Notes of tobacco, vanilla, clove and forest floor are woven in nicely. This is a really fun, accessible and early-drinking Cabernet, but complex, too, and consistently one of the better Cabs in this price range. Sourced from Frei Ranch and Barrelli Creek Vineyards, this includes some Petite Sirah, Petit Verdot and Merlot, aged 16 months in oak. (1696 views)
Tasted by Christine Havens on 6/29/2019 & rated 90 points: Opaque violet in the glass, the 2016 Louis M. Martini Sonoma Coast Cabernet Sauvignon opens slowly, revealing layered aromas of black currant, leather, anise, incense, mint, and dried herbs. Supple, silky tannins greet the palate, lending to a sense of roundness and opulence. Black fruit quietly unfurls at the mid-palate—it’s unobtrusive and not at all heavy. The overall impression is one of elegance and the winemaker’s attention to craft. Always a great value. 14.5% ABV | Sample (1946 views)
Tasted by wicozani on 6/19/2019 & rated 88 points: First taste of the newest vintage of our longtime house red wine. Double decanted over two hours, and paired with grilled NY Strip steaks. A dark purple in the glass, nearly opaque in color. A reticent nose of both red and black fruits, vanilla and oak spices. Very youthful, structured by the oak treatment, and only after 3 more hours did this begin to open up and display a fruit-forward chocolate-covered cherries-like vibe. Overall, they seem to be lavishing this entry-level wine with more luxurious oak treatment, seemingly American at least in part. Very well made for its price point, as it always has been. Not a great wine but drinkable (1257 views)
Tasted by wneal14 on 4/23/2019 & rated 87 points: For the price it's a very good cab. It lacks some complexity but is an enjoyable everyday wine I'm sure is intended to be consumed young. (1236 views)
Tasted by Woodbridge Brad on 4/10/2019 & rated 88 points: This has always been a supermarket/Costco goto Cabernet for me. Wanted to taste the 2016 still a sound Cab a little sweet but oak in context and very satisfying. (1284 views)
Tasted by kingboo on 4/8/2019 & rated 87 points: A good everyday quaffer, especially considering the price. (1283 views)
Tasted by jsternh on 4/6/2019 & rated 85 points: Very jammy, fruit forward Cal cab. Sweet tannic structure. If you are a fan of diet soda you might like this. Some may like this style, I will look elsewhere. (1150 views)
Tasted by poppacork on 2/17/2019 & rated 88 points: Well structured blackberry jam. Solid weeknight cab. (1365 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
