| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 4 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by thesternowl on 10/24/2020 & rated 93 points: Feral smelling but in the reductive way that Syrah can so easily become...if that makes sense. This characteristic softens with air and finds a groove after about 30min. Smells like a deli case with blue and black fruits and purple flowers. On the palate, powerful blue fruits herbs and spices. Big in the structure department too. There’s a whole lot to like here. I would love to revisit this in 10 years. (912 views) | | Tasted by Yorgos on 10/7/2018 & rated 92 points: Deep purple. Lovely nose, with ripe red and dark cherries, berries, some smokey elements. Medium to full bodied with balancing acidity, ripe fruit with somewhat drying finish. Nice. 91-92 (1129 views) | | Tasted by kostaslonis on 10/7/2018 & rated 93 points: Aiolos Tasting (Intercontinental Hotel): The wine shows a beautiful and very welcoming profile of ripe red and black fruit, garrique, gamey and tobacco notes, with a few brett bits here and there (iodine). The wine shows its character in the palate with ripe red fruit, more gamey notes, more brett-y, elegant smooth tannins, medium body and medium to long finish. Oustanding quality (772 views) |

The Cuilleron family domaine, located in the town of Chavanay, was founded several generations ago. Yves Cuilleron's grandfather was the first to bottle wine for commercial purposes in 1947. Antoine Cuilleron, the uncle and immediate predecessor of Yves, significantly increased the percentage of wine bottled at the estate and extended the scope of the domaine. Yves assumed full ownership and direction in 1987 and, since that time, has built an entirely new facility while at the same time acquiring additional vineyard property. The domaine now produces about 50,000 bottles annually divided between the appellations of St. Joseph Blanc, St. Joseph Rouge, Cote Rotie and Condrieu.
Syrah Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)
Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)
Regional History: Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.
