Tasted by Rounder16 on 12/25/2023 & rated 93 points: This wine needs air! Give it at least 60 minutes in carafe. At first, I thought the wine was tired with the nose of sweet plums and even raisins, but with the air, it started singing. The nose was dominated by sour cherry, plum and mocha with a bit of freshness. On the palate, wine is dense and almost sweet with still very much present grainy tannins and solid acidity as good backbone. Medium plus finish.

Not my style of wine, but if you like heavy (14.7% alcohol), opulent and well-structured wine from Spain, this is definitely for you. (301 views)
Tasted by bjbu on 10/8/2022 & rated 92 points: Cherry, blackberry, tomato leaf, vanilla, leather, clove. Acidity medium (-). Tannins medium. Finish medium (+). (925 views)
Tasted by ThijsV on 10/8/2022 & rated 93 points: WSET reunion tasting group+ (Home, Utrecht): Bold, deep and lovely. Cherries, oak, clove, hint of mint, leather, BBQ. Medium+ tannins, long finish. Still great, at peak (or just behind) (1091 views)
Tasted by ThijsV on 8/27/2021 & rated 94 points: Utregs Wijnhuis Wijnproeverij Exclusief (Utregs Wijnhuis): [Blind tasted] - Guessed a Rioja, not Toro. Very nice, has aged gracefully. Ripe cherries, plum, spicey, mint, ceder. Very deep and still maintaining tis freshness.
Medium acidity, very fine tannins. Long finish that keeps evolving (1881 views)
Tasted by bitdrerik on 5/28/2021 & rated 93 points: Stóra Toro smakkið (Eðalklúbbur, vínsmakk #4 vor 2021). (1800 views)
Tasted by portman63 on 2/14/2020 & rated 92 points: My last bottle showed a little tired. However, this bottle was showing much more liveliness. Deep black cherry fruit and with iron and earthiness, but with enough acid to keep the finish nice. I still think it is clearly in the mature plateau and seems like it is at it's best now and unlikely to benefit from further aging given the two bottles I opened in the last six months. (2194 views)
Tasted by PacoHigon on 8/31/2019: Fondo de armario. (2229 views)
Tasted by robmatic on 12/23/2018 & rated 92 points: Wow, this is still pretty ferocious and young. Decanted, aerated, and aerated again and recanted. Then a prime NY steak to wash down some of those tannins and... it is showing nicely, with a deep spicy palate, nervous acidity, and a crystal cherry/fennel streak. One more bottle in the cellar, and note to self: wait until 2024 to open it. Are you going to trust me, or all those other tasting notes from random people? (2808 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 10/22/2016 & rated 93 points: Long time ago since I tasted this. The bouquet has become mature with earth and some medicine flavor in the nose. On the palate dark forest fruits, salty licorice and still extremely beautiful and without showing real age. Beautiful now and the next few years. (5437 views)
Tasted by honest bob on 6/19/2016 & rated 89 points: From 75cl, stored in my cellar since purchase in 2004, perfect cork. Decanted off heavy sediment and left 1 hour. Intense oak/balsamic herbs/blackberry fruit scent; the entry is like chewing a great bunch of sage, rosemary, mint and thyme; the mid-palate is absurdly concentrated, with black-intense liquorice-infused blackberry and still quite hard-furry tannins; shortish, bitter/furry/black-fruit finish. So far so good, but to be honest, this isn't actually much fun. Don't get me wrong: The individual features of this stern, unsmilingly muscular wine are appealing. But it is so disjointed the whole ends up being less than the sum of its parts; it feels like great wine-making mastery has been applied to juice which perhaps wasn't worth it... There is, however, no denying the fact that it still has many years to go —perhaps there may be an upside? (88-)90(?)P (5509 views)
Tasted by Marcosuru on 5/7/2016: My second bottle in a week. Maybe it is not the most complex wine, but is jammy and delicious. Famous wines tend to be a bit disappointing but this one is not. (5317 views)
Tasted by Marcosuru on 4/30/2016 & rated 93 points: Gorgeous wine.
It took hours of decanting to open up and become a delicious wine.
It is coming of age now but has a long time to go.
Lots of sediment, filtering and decanting a must (5058 views)
Tasted by grossie on 3/30/2016 & rated 93 points: Gorgeous wine full of power. Seemed very balanced to me, with long sweet fruit. I'd drink one of these every night if I could. Ready to go, no sense of decline in there. (4725 views)
Tasted by LoireFan on 1/12/2016 & rated 89 points: Not a harmonious wine. (2479 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 12/30/2015 & rated 91 points: Not at its peak tonight, but I can't decide which side of the hill I think it is on. Still with distinct tannins and impressive fruit, but the two are strangely less integrated seeming than a few years ago. (1899 views)
Tasted by PhDP on 12/21/2015: déjeuner de fin d'année (groupe du mercredi, Bruxelles, Belgium, chez PhDP): tbc (2554 views)
Tasted by Old Vino on 12/20/2015 & rated 88 points: I initially suspected bottle variation. Sampled from another bottle (coarvin) and pretty much the same. Briefly, a one-dimensional wine lacking complexity. Not unpleasant to drink. May be better with more time. (1782 views)
Tasted by thomaskeil on 11/30/2015 & rated 92 points: Decanted 2 hours (benefited from air and removing sediment). Slight violet tinge to red color. Nose featured dusty red berries, tobacco and licorice. Medium weight fruit with good acidity and somewhat bold tannins. With steak the tannins were drawn way down. Nicely balanced, old world tempranillo. I was a little surprised by my note from 2013 as it only partially matches my experience last night. Maybe I was expecting a beast from Toro, but last night this wine approached being refined and not beastly at all. (1992 views)
Tasted by texanoblues on 5/18/2015 & rated 91 points: Cork in good condition. Double decanted due to lots of very fine sediment. Dark red, amber and clear in the glass. Leather, earth, smoke, cherry and anise. Grippy and acidic with appropriate alcohol. Really, very good tempranillo that seemed quite mature, considering its age. Complex and subtle. (2344 views)
Tasted by Yagil on 6/12/2014 & rated 92 points: Castilla y Leon tasting (Osteria da Fiorella, Tel Aviv): Double decanted 3 hours before drinking.
Dark color (almost opaque).
Rustic tertiary aromas of black olives and licorice.
Full bodied, grip tannins, still quite tight, good acidity level, concentrated flavours, somewhat bitter smells,
well balanced, elegant powerful, earthiness, unique taste profile, concentrated, bold, enjoyable finish.
some 10 plus years of aging potential. (4009 views)
Tasted by thomaskeil on 12/16/2013 & rated 91 points: Decanted 2.5 hours (some benefit). Dark violet. Expressive black fruits on the nose, with licorice, vanilla oak, peppery meat and etoh poking through. Rich weighty fruit with some heat on entry. Good structure with still firm tannins and balancing acidity. Terrific length with complex flavor profile but finish still a little hot from the etoh. Still quite young with all elements bold, some overblown. (4684 views)
Tasted by aknot13 on 7/13/2013 & rated 94 points: Outstanding wine! Worth every penny. (5688 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 6/10/2013 & rated 93 points: This is a very good wine. Very smooth and harmonious. Showing secondary and tertiary characteristics. (5691 views)
Tasted by BURG-ARESCO on 5/6/2013 & rated 91 points: Color - Very dark, clear
Nose - leather, earth
Palate - leather, clove, bacon; medium long finish. (5717 views)

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
