| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.4 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 11 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by whudock on 5/16/2023 & rated 90 points: well balanced with strong raspberry fruit and decent structure and acidity. Excellent QPR and a good example of village wine (400 views) | | Tasted by daveyk39 on 8/24/2020 & rated 86 points: 30m air for this blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Carignan. Aged for 16 months in concrete tanks. Medium purple color. Offers earthy aromas of leather, soy sauce and blackberry. Stewed blackberry and red fruit, on the palate. It has some earthy qualities, but overall the wine is a bit soft for my taste, lacking both acidity and/or tannin to add backbone (2207 views) | | Tasted by hfindlay on 8/10/2020: I haven’t been wowed by this level of quality in an $11.99 bottle of wine — correction, $20 or under — in a very, very long time. Fresh ground pepper, blackberry, and cherry cola notes on the nose, followed by a supple, juicy mouthful of dark fruit, more pepper. Excellent, fresh, lingering finish! Not amazingly complex, sure, but really vivid and well knit. How’d they do it? More magic tricks like this, Thunevin-Calvert, si vous plait!! (2024 views) | | Tasted by rmalloy on 8/10/2020 & rated 90 points: Delicious blend of stewed strawberries, lavender, and game. Easy drinking — not much structure — but enough aromatic complexity to satisfy me. (2194 views) | | Tasted by finovino3 on 8/2/2020 & rated 90 points: Purely delicious with fruit and acidity in balance. Drinks like a $20 southern Rhone. Best wine we had in Provence in 2018. (1108 views) | | Tasted by vandal16 on 7/15/2020 & rated 86 points: Interesting nose. Some barnyard funk and dark cherry on the nose. Pallet is a bit empty. Light cherry and mineral flavors. A bit astringent on the finish. Might need some additional bottle age. Make sure to decant this one. Better the second day. (1708 views) | | Tasted by dstev51344 on 5/31/2020 & rated 89 points: A lot of body and structure for such an inexpensive wine. Goes well with everything from pasta to meat dishes. (1721 views) | | Tasted by khmark7 on 5/23/2020 & rated 88 points: Ripe & juicy, moderate tannins and a fresh finish. This has to have a healthy share of Mourvedre in the blend. Great value red that goes well with grilled steak.
Corrected: Evidently this is mostly Grenache & Carignane, but i would have guessed Mourvedre & Cabernet or Syrah. Reminds me of Provence. (515 views) |

| Domaine Thunevin-Calvet Producer websiteRed Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
