Community Tasting Notes (average 92.9 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 30 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by drwine2001 on 12/16/2022: Light golden color. Aromas of sultanas and quince. Medium weight for a dessert Chenin Blanc, excellent richness, and only moderate sweetness. The fruit is pure and alive, and it possesses excellent length. This should last for another decade.

More bright orange blossom the next day. (1475 views)
Tasted by zpearson on 2/7/2022 & rated 93 points: Medium orange-amber. This smells like burnt orange oil (think about flaming an orange peel over a drink), burnt honey and dried apricots. With some air, sandalwood botrytis. There's really lovely purity here. Oily textured. Gorgeous acidity, apricot and orange marmalade. From the color, I'm thinking this might be advanced a bit, but it's really lovely. (1006 views)
Tasted by fitzi on 11/14/2020: This was an excellent bottle and example of mature Coteaux: tingly, slightly sour acidity supporting a well-rounded matrix of ripe peaches and orange peel. The RS largely discerned in the wine's roundness, the actual sweetness very nicely balanced now. I was surprised, because I've been off sweet wines in a big way recently, but the intensity and balance of this wine won me over. Good with the usual suspects - e.g., Stilton - but also with Asian stir-fry, slightly spicy.

A recent bottle I'd given to a friend was dead as a doornail, but she hadn't stored it remotely well, despite my admonitions. Nonetheless, I will be drinking my last bottle within the coming few months - likely over Christmas. (1155 views)
Tasted by fitzi on 11/8/2019: Color of rye honey, very well along. Good to drink, tangy with acidity, cosseting soft texture, mellow mature sweetnes, but likely past peak.

I will be finding ways to drink my remaining over the coming year. (1412 views)
Tasted by premiercru1973 on 10/19/2018 & rated 93 points: Perfectly mature just now. Great balance and a bit more sweetness than expected. Great stuff at a great price! (1846 views)
Tasted by Musigny1955 on 4/1/2018 & rated 94 points: {Bought on release, perfect fill, PopNPour} Delicious, marzipan and almonds and citrus and some caramel flavors. Wonderful. For my palate fully mature and will last another 3-5 years at this level. (Usually find the Quarts de Chaume ages longer). (1817 views)
Tasted by fitzi on 11/24/2016: Opened to serve with TG deserts, but no takers - go figure. Fatty texture, orange peel, plenty of acid, sweetness muted/integrated. Quite fine. Needs a bit of air to come to life. Subtle and refined. I feel the fruit may be tiring, but need to try the remainder tomorrw to form a firm opinion. (2324 views)
Tasted by ssouth on 5/14/2016 & rated 95 points: Dark yellow. Honeyed nose. Semi sweet with boytris notes. Great texture. Good minerality long finish. At an amazing place but has decades ahead of it Quite remarkable (2425 views)
Tasted by GalvezGuy on 10/21/2013 & rated 93 points: Lilting citrus nose with tones of pears and carmelized apples. On the palate, rich and full with pineapple, peach, lemon curd, and pear. Finishes with piercing acidity to balance the sweetness. Followed through the night and this paired very well with every type of food. Not quite as powerful as the last bottle but still very enjoyable. (3845 views)
Tasted by ckinv368 on 10/19/2013 & rated 93 points: CT Offline VI--San Antonio Edition (San Antonio, TX): Sweet, savory, berry, smooth, with notes of peach, pear, apricot, white peach, and cherry. Delicious! (4053 views)
Tasted by beatles on 7/14/2013 & rated 93 points: Terrific wine. Quite exotic noise, but beware, this is a very European wine, The citrus fruit is almost sparkling, and balances he sweetness; still very young. There is mineral, restrained side to this wine also, and the taste lingers on and on. Will keep several years, almost an infanticide to drink this today - as I did with Brillat-Savarain and comté, worked out very nice. (3439 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 1/4/2013 & rated 92 points: Incredibly sweet attack, powdered sugar in a Margarita. Caramelized apple and pear, flowers, pineapple. Mid-bodied, though seems very light. Loads of acid. Long finish of pineapple coated in powdered sugar. Showing much youthfulness and verve. Quite good. (3401 views)
Tasted by GalvezGuy on 12/28/2012 & rated 95 points: Consistent with 3/15 note. Absolutely the perfect pairing with oyster stew. (2891 views)
Tasted by godx on 5/27/2012 & rated 88 points: "Clos" dinner chez Rasoul (Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind – copper/gold colour. Sweeter nose with notes of honey, saffron, oxidized apples. Lots of tension and acid on the palate with flavours of oxidized pear and honey. There is some premature oxidation going on but it’s not spoiled or fully premixed yet. Overall sweet and delicious but probably advanced. Very good. (2686 views)
Tasted by vintage61 on 3/16/2012 & rated 96 points: Drank with Joe Dulworth, Michael Vickery, et al at d'Carlo Italian restaurant. Mid golden color and absolutely fabu;ous. Tropical fruit led by subtle pineapple nose and palate. Perfect structure and balance. Nothing out of place. Suave and sophisticated. Not too sweet. Perfect anytime. Should go on for decades. (2666 views)
Tasted by GalvezGuy on 3/15/2012 & rated 95 points: Dallas Offline - Great Hosts (Nice Italian Place - Name Undisclosed): Opened at a wine dinner. Tremendous nose lemon oil, beeswax, ripe pineapple, yellow pear, honey, white flowers. On the palate, rich and round, pineapple, pear, honey, lemon oil, with a nice mineral streak running through the great transition to a finish with enough zing to cut through the big fruit flavors. Finishes drier than expected (a good thing). Great wine, great experience. Drink anytime over the next 30 years, it is only going to get better from here. I know this is classified as a dessert wine, but it works at anytime in the meal, a very well-balanced food-friendly Chenin. (2618 views)
Tasted by fitzi on 12/17/2011: Very nice - Brooklynguy says it all. Young but giving great pleasure now. Good sweet Chenin is a dream. (2383 views)
Tasted by brooklynguy on 3/28/2011: Such a great showing. Rich and full with honeyed orchard fruit, but shows restraint and is perfectly balanced with acidity and there is a lovely mineral streak running underneath. This could go forever, but it is completely delicious now. (2742 views)
Tasted by mn_horn on 1/1/2011 & rated 91 points: French Laundry Dinner #2 (Maple Grove, MN): Deep dark gold color. The nose was filled with honey, hints of lemon, and maybe some orange zest. The mouthfeel was coating, but not cloying and delivered the mild sweetness with honey and peach flavors. I long finish made this an enjoyable wine with a lemon tart. I will look forward to the next few bottles over the next 10+ years. (4096 views)
Tasted by joshwoodward on 9/24/2009 & rated 90 points: Yikes. Just yikes.; 9/24/2009-9/25/2009 (Bowling Green, OH): Definitely on the raisin side more than the honeyed pears I'm used to from a Baumard, but decent acidity and very tasty. (3689 views)
Tasted by cadamson on 4/11/2009 & rated 89 points: Spectacular gold color. Big nose of creamed corn (yes, someone suggested that it sure seemed dead on) and acacia. Good acidity keeps it from cloying. Honey, apricots, minerality. Enjoyable. (3058 views)
Tasted by jivey on 4/10/2009 & rated 94 points: Spectacular! Dark golden huge, light edge with honey, mineral and floral components lingering on the vicoushish long complex 60+ second finish. 13.0% (3047 views)
Tasted by Diane (LI) on 5/24/2008: Mouthcoating sweetness with honey and fresh tropical fruit, and highly enjoyable. (3266 views)
Tasted by brooklynguy on 4/13/2008 & rated 90 points: really gripping nose of roast pineapple, honey, flowers, and something herbal/medicinal underneath. the palate is quite concentrated, surprisingly so considering the wine is medium bodied and not at all sticky, but the sweet flavors wash through and really coat the mouth. delicious! and the nose and the palate both put on a lot of weight over the few hours this was open. by the end, heavily perfumed with bitter minerals on the finish, just excellent wine. seems like this is no where near fully mature. (3208 views)
Tasted by Diane (LI) on 2/23/2008: Deep golden color. Tropical fruits on the nose. A sweetness that wakes up the senses, and fresh acidity that provides balance. Oily texture with the flavor of mango and sweet pineapple, a little petrol, and a beautiful, lingering finish. (3357 views)
