Community Tasting Notes (average 88.9 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 46 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Kman5624 on 12/21/2019 & rated 79 points: Good nose. Initial taste was good. Cork broke apart in process of opening. (718 views)
Tasted by indiscriminate palate on 6/8/2016 & rated 80 points: The rare disappointment from Ridge. Sweet, woody, with some graphite, but very little fruit; drying tannin, loads of vanilla, some blackberry jam. Overly big with little joy and certainly past whatever prime it had. (1469 views)
Tasted by MBA on 2/3/2016: Very big wine, huge fruit, a little hot. After 2 hours or so in the decanter it became better integrated, secondary flavors of earth and dried orange peel came out. Great wine, but big. (1467 views)
Tasted by dmitchell4 on 12/13/2013 & rated 90 points: Classic Ridge (2397 views)
Tasted by Jonesdnm@gmail.com on 11/26/2013 & rated 88 points: Lots going on with the nose like blackberry ice cream
Palate. Leather dried tart fruit, cherries and cranberries
A hot mid palate, with a medium finish of smoke, oak and leather (2582 views)
Tasted by Jscalia on 4/28/2013 & rated 90 points: Classic Ridge zinfandel. Intense dark fruit. Buttery/creamy rich palate. Long finish. (2291 views)
Tasted by kosinski on 4/5/2013: Interesting aromas of mushrooms, forest floor, cedar and maybe a little seashore. Possibly also a touch of brett. Beautiful jammy red raspberry flavors along with a strong note of stone and leather. Quite complex and mature, but still taut with tannin. Drink soon. (1806 views)
Tasted by affordableCollector on 4/5/2013 & rated 90 points: light red, orange, in the color. cocoa, spice, berry, floral, smoke, on the nose. tart fruit, burnt wood, pepper, spice, blackberry, cedar, on the palate. medium acid, tannins, on the finish. (1607 views)
Tasted by mlwhitfi on 4/2/2013 & rated 89 points: Subtle & elegant. Claret style. Chalk, light berry fruit, a hint of eucalyptus & caramel. (951 views)
Tasted by markydecker on 3/15/2013 & rated 94 points: Ridge Zins never cease to amaze. Such a great wine. Nose of spice and vanilla, with floral and Bordeaux like nuances. Still purple to the rim and medium weight, silky mouthfeel. Stewed plums and dark cherry with some mocha on the mouth coating palate, all fully integrated. I have said it a thousand times, Paul Draper is a genius. Bravo! So sad it's my last bottle. (1093 views)
Tasted by eastover on 7/4/2012: Ridge and July 4th - a local tradition. Enjoyed these two with Lisa and Lee as we watched the fireworks through the trees in the front yard of Eastover. Nice wine - good vintage (last two in the cellar). (1412 views)
Tasted by yipen on 6/7/2012 & rated 90 points: A nice Zin, time has round all the edge out, juicy fruit, not spicy at this point. Good BBQ wine (1184 views)
Tasted by eastover on 12/23/2011: Friday night at home with Pizza on Christmas eve-eve. Very nice. (1393 views)
Tasted by TPV Wine Cellar on 11/29/2011: Good. Could taste the age. (1559 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 9/2/2011 & rated 91 points: This is tasty. Rich, deep and long. This wine has integrated nicely. Not that complex, but very good just the same. (1509 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 8/20/2011 & rated 91 points: This is pretty good. This has a certain gaminess to it. Brett? Anyway, it is still good. Intense zin brambly fruit even with 7 years of age. A bit of vanilla, but well integrated. 14.4% abv. Long finish. (1370 views)
Tasted by karpos on 1/24/2011 & rated 89 points: No edges, nice and smooth. Great with food. Drink them now, they aren't going to get better at this point. (1697 views)
Tasted by fredb on 10/29/2010: Medium red color with slight thinning and transparency. Aromas of dust, cherries, dried cherries, and raisins. On the palate, this shows a dusty, dried fruit and fresh fruit mix with a zin-berry note that emerges with some raisin character on a medium finish. There's enough juiciness here to keep it enjoyable, but the roasted fruit distracts a bit. Drink. (1910 views)
Tasted by fredb on 8/21/2010: Medium red in the glass with some transparency. Aromas of dust, milk chocolate, dried cherries, and red plum. On the palate, this shows a rich chocolate streak framed by plum, cherry, and blackberry. A hint of roasted fruit/raisin appears in the medium finish. A pleasant drink, but the roasted fruit and chocolate characteristics seem premature from a Ridge bottling of this age. Drink. (2010 views)
Tasted by tplskylrk on 11/29/2009 & rated 88 points: Ok Rich, black fruit. Spicy Zin fruit with firm tannins, acid and again big fruit waves. Nice stuff. (2353 views)
Tasted by CO CHRIS on 7/26/2009: Decent. Quaff. Anise. Anise galore. (2660 views)
Tasted by Maine wine guy on 5/13/2009 & rated 93 points: Brilliant wine.
Bursting with everything a zin should be. (3585 views)
Tasted by nkredich on 4/24/2009 & rated 90 points: Spicy. Great fruit. Decent tannins. Overall very good. (2809 views)
Tasted by Spencer on 4/12/2009 & rated 89 points: Quite nice. Balanced, spicy black fruit, good acidity. Drink now. (2781 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
