Tasted by Swaggering Beaunie on 5/23/2022 & rated 85 points: We drank this wine after a 2-hour decant, and it did not much resemble the wines described in previous reviews. The fruit was shy, and subordinated to the tannins and oak. Finally, after another hour, some fruit started to show...but still not much. I'll probably wait another couple of years before opening the next bottle. (1413 views)
Tasted by ikkaariainen on 4/9/2022 & rated 93 points: Brought to Duke's Chophouse in Hickory NC by very good wine friends. Highly recommend and at the average CT price this is a very reasonable QPR wine at this point. A somewhat unique wine, a small boutique high altitude Howell Mountain winery, 42 cases produced, 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Mature and drinking beautifully with enough of a core left for at least 5-7 years of additional cellaring under proper conditions - drink or hold but soft and complex enough that there is likely not much further upside to further cellaring. Decanting not needed at this point. Well balanced, well integrated, soft mouth feel, medium - full bodied, high altitude fruit shines through and with a beautiful medium length aftertaste. Beautiful soft nose of dark stone fruit, blueberry and a floral lilac note. Balanced oak up front with dark stone fruit and classic cassis evolving into blueberry, cherry, dark chocolate, more cedar then oak on the mid- late palate and then dry tobacco on the finish.  Tasted by Odedis.Wine.reviews on 10/29/2021 & rated 94 points: This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley.

Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, figs, raisins, chocolates, coffee, cola, vanilla, cedar, spices and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and red chili powder.

This five-year-old is drinking very nicely now and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 10 years.

Showing a great nose, once it opens up (4 hours). I had it before, and this time I gave it a much longer decant, which really benefited the nose.

A great wine to have all by itself and talk about. Will be interesting to try it in five years.

Delicious, rich, extracted and fruit forward.

I paired it with a Charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

A small production of only 42 barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

94 points.

Tasted by GKG on 9/6/2021: This wine is a bomb on all senses, jammy and hot are my first impressions. Black fruit bordering stewed. Overall, not something I'd run back to, but to be fair it still lands as a well made wine. Perhaps just not my thing, so I'll decline to add a score. (1836 views)
Tasted by Quaffing in Colorado on 8/4/2021 & rated 92 points: Blackcurrant, blackberry, coffee, cedar, sawdust and graphite form the silky core of this juicy and well-structured effort with a solid QPR. (992 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 6/6/2021 & rated 90 points: My last and final bottle. Not bad, but over the last few months I’ve had ~6 bottles and the majority were flawed or corked. 9 months ago, I would’ve said there was Years left in this wine, pretty comfortable saying I was wrong. Might just be my experience & my “batch”.

This is my final bottle, and while not flawed, it really was just OK. Giving it a final 90 Points. (1398 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 5/21/2021 & rated 90 points: Nice bottle. Not flawed like so many of my last few bottles have been, but still not that great. Definitely slipping, pretty surprising as it’s only 5 years old. The initial bottles were so good, but not the last few. (1133 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 5/20/2021 flawed bottle: No note… flawed. (984 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 5/20/2021 flawed bottle: 2nd flawed bottle of the night. 😢 (1042 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 5/9/2021 flawed bottle: Bottle was badly flawed. Top of the cork was actually damp., and a wet line up the side of the cork that was probably 25% of the cork’s diameter! (795 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 5/9/2021 & rated 90 points: 2nd bottle of the night for Mother’s Day. First one was corked, this one seems OK. Lowering this bottle to 90 points though. Just seems slightly off. I still have 4 bottles and I’m a bit concerned about them. Until these last 2 bottles, I didn’t feel like this wine was getting anywhere near the end of it’s life. Now. Not so sure. 😳 (962 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 3/4/2021 & rated 92 points: Just Lovely... I know I just had one last night, but I was grilling up some special burgers tonight and I just KNEW this would be excellent with them! And It Was!!! (1061 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 3/3/2021 & rated 92 points: Just Love This Wine. Big, Dark & Rich! Just terrific! Very Nice QPR! (1018 views)
Tasted by Kentw on 2/3/2021 & rated 88 points: I have a different perspective from some of the drinking notes from which I decided to buy a few bottles from WTSO. It is medium plus weight, with a decent structure but lots of acidity throughout and a tart flavor profile. After an hour it showed somewhat a better balance but initial impression tends to linger. I would give it another few years before opening my next bottle. (1328 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 1/24/2021 & rated 92 points: Just lovely. Big, dark fruit. Very similar to the other bottles I’ve had. (1243 views)
Tasted by Odedis.Wine.reviews on 1/5/2021 & rated 93 points: Dark ruby in color, almost black, with a nice reddish cloudy rim.

Great nose of blueberries, blackberries, black plums, cooked cherries, vanilla, cedar, licorice, light earth, chocolates, coffee, mint and black pepper.

Full bodied and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black plums, stewed cherries, chocolates, cedar, leather, licorice, cola, vanilla, light earth, spices, peppercorn, tobacco and cocoa.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Showing nice complexity with a great mouthfeel. This will not disappoint you, as it is true to the terroir. Rich and tangy. Spicy, elegant and fruit forward.

Still young and would be even better in 5 to 10 years of bottle time. Nevertheless, it is already delicious.

Good right out of the bottle, and better after a couple of hours of airtime. Tannins come in after 2 hours.

I paired it with a Charcuterie board of dries meats and cheeses.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

Tasted by kevrob822 on 1/2/2021 & rated 92 points: Just excellent. Raising it a point to 92. Lots of big dark fruit. Deep and smooth, with medium body & finish. Goes best with food. My only concern about these is the somewhat wide point range across the bottles. Still, I’m going to look into getting more. (1061 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 12/14/2020 & rated 90 points: Moving this bottle down to 90 Points. As mentioned, this was decanted for about an hour, but possibly could’ve used more. Not quite as complex and rich as previous bottles, but still very good.

I’ll keep an eye on this and look at possibly getting more. It’s really nice and a Very Good QPR. (1000 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 12/1/2020 & rated 91 points: Another yummy bottle. Decanted for an hour (recommended!). Nice aroma, big and nose-filling with dark fruit, plum and vanilla. Taste was more of the same. Lots of body, texture and depth. 😋

A solid 91 Pointer and oh-so-close to moving to 92, with an Excellent QPR. This being my last bottle, I immediately went back and bought another 4 bottles. Good Juice! (895 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 11/29/2020 & rated 91 points: Another very nice bottle. Dark, rich and powerful with nice body and texture. Very supple with black fruit, vanilla and mocha. Medium-long finish. Nice 91 Pointer and a Very Nice QPR. (857 views)
Tasted by kevrob822 on 11/26/2020 & rated 91 points: Nice. A bit tart, but dark, rich and powerful. Medium-long finish. Nice 91 Pointer and a Nice QPR. (701 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 8/8/2020 & rated 90 points: A nose of dark fruits and some spices, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied red, with blackberry, black cherry, tar and spice on finish, was very good. www.winelx.com (1028 views)
Tasted by jkreiser on 7/21/2020 & rated 90 points: Very smooth (908 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 7/19/2020 & rated 90 points: Deep purple color. On the nose, a core of rich, deep, saucy black currants, wild blueberries, with deep earth, pencil lead, anise cookie and magic marker. Full-bodied, rich texture, chewy tannins, moderate acid, with ripe and bold but nuanced and fresh as well. Gushing, deep blueberries, blackberry and currant jam, with mint, cocoa, vanilla, dark chocolate. Ripe and deep, this is delicious, hedonistic but balanced goodness. Includes 6% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot, aged 22 months in 40% new French oak. (1063 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
