Tasted by Goofienewfy on 7/15/2023 & rated 92 points: Good drinking and well balanced GSM from Ridge. Medium bodied with nose of earth and a bit of leather. (353 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 7/15/2023 & rated 91 points: Deep dark center, red/purple rim, no signs of age.
Very fruity nose, ripe black plums and blueberries, a touch of smoke, quite bright.
Smooth, darker fruits - plums and black cherries, good tannins and acidity still but balances the fruit well, alcohol in check, well integrated oak, great finish.
Excellent GSM blend, at 8 years it feel a little young still but drinking very well now. (390 views)
Tasted by WineJ2019 on 7/14/2023 & rated 89 points: I liked it but less than my prior bottles. Showing some age in terms of less fruit flavors but without more interesting secondary notes to compensate. I’d drink now (397 views)
Tasted by moxielady on 6/14/2023 & rated 92 points: Dark fruit, white pepper, smooth finish. Slightly acidic. Ready to drink now. (503 views)
Tasted by Berkeley on 4/22/2023: Nice. Soft. And still young. (557 views)
Tasted by GrapeCrusader on 3/23/2023 & rated 90 points: Some pretty tasty juice. Had this when it was first released back in 2018ish? and it was good, but needed some time. Well, that time is now. Drinking really well right now. Medium-bodied, medium structure with moderate tannins, but for the most part, nice and smooth down the hatch. Loads of clove, black licorice, plums, and baking spice, A little vanillin from the oak, but not much. A very Ridge wine! (411 views)
Tasted by nisid on 8/28/2022 & rated 91 points: A versatile pairing. (687 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 3/11/2022: Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Interesting and slightly different wine than I was expecting based on previous experience with GSM blends. Here Syrah is the star. It’s more restrained in style but there’s still power here. Lots of freshness and minerals. Darker fruits. Hint of the tannin. (1951 views)
Tasted by WineJ2019 on 11/26/2021 & rated 91 points: Dark purple color, intense dark fruit flavors with med acidity, smooth tannins, and a bit of oak on the finish. Drinking fine now, no rush but no need to hold longer either (1185 views)
Tasted by nisid on 11/24/2021 & rated 91 points: In a nice spot right now. Very smooth. Tannins well integrated. Should hold on for a few more years but I don't necessarily see it improving. (1035 views)
Tasted by moxielady on 11/20/2021 & rated 90 points: Brought to dinner, decanted two hours during dinner and got better, but still quite young and heavy (1099 views)
Tasted by ralaspech on 11/12/2021 & rated 88 points: Pleasant, but I did not enjoy as much as some other vintages I have tried. (939 views)
Tasted by ElJefeTX on 10/1/2021 & rated 91 points: Limited production Rhone blend with a 35% Syrah, 23% Grenache and 42% Mataro (Mourvèdre). Aromas of dark red berries, vanilla extract, garrigue and a faint whiff of cured meat. Traditional GSM notes with calm, plush tannins. Paired nicely with sautéed chicken with an herb blueberry compote. (950 views)
Tasted by WineJ2019 on 3/11/2021 & rated 91 points: 2nd time having this wine. Drank over two nights, first with a chicken stir fry, and then with homemade lasagna. A bit more intense / tannic than I remembered from the first bottle. Well structured and enjoyable but I’ll wait a bit before opening another to see if it further integrates. (1085 views)
Tasted by WineJ2019 on 1/31/2021 & rated 92 points: First time having this wine. Pleasant ripe fruit yet still complex. Really good as a sipper and then with grilled chicken. (1050 views)
Tasted by bjschmitt on 10/25/2020 & rated 91 points: With grilled pork tenderloin.
Dark garnet, almost sparkling. Nose of plum, mushroom, blueberry.
There is a muchness to this wine, mixed tannin and acid, big but not bloated, drinking very nicely right now. (1133 views)
Tasted by gudetama on 8/11/2020 & rated 91 points: Pop and pour. Still has good tannins. I don't think it's peaking yet. Will try another next year. (1226 views)
Tasted by clutj on 4/15/2020 & rated 92 points: Smooth, tasty (1281 views)
Tasted by soumamae on 4/4/2020 & rated 96 points: Medium ruby.
Nose shows lavender, maraschino, wet stones.
On the palate blueberry, blackberry, loam.
Finishes with tannin grip, burnt sugar, and the blackberry.
Hard to imagine this wine could be much better.

Paired well with tapas. (1112 views)
Tasted by azscot on 12/20/2019 & rated 88 points: Red fruit on the nose, blackberry/fruit on the palate with some heat tobacco. Pleasant but the finish drops off a cliff. (1163 views)
Tasted by bensony on 10/18/2019 & rated 90 points: Another great wine from Ridge, one of my favorite producers for QPR. In appearance, this is a medium ruby color and fairly transparent. On the nose are aromas of black and blue fruits, redcurrant, lavender, mild earthy cheese, cured meat, and slate. This was still somewhat tight and needed a bit of air. On the palate are notes of blueberry, ripe blackberry, dried cranberry, parched dirt, mushroom, underbrush, and blood. Full-bodied, medium (+) acidity, medium tannins, and long (surprisingly bright fruit) finish. (1126 views)
Tasted by tplskylrk on 10/5/2019: NIce as usual. Nose is hiding. Some herb and iron and blood. Earth. Dry scratchy fruit chewy palate, delicious. Balanced. Finish lingers nicely. This is a lighter Syrah. Its pressed fruit, not extracted. Lovely. (1111 views)
Tasted by Cali Fan on 9/22/2019 & rated 90 points: I was pleasantly surprised. Very drinkable, especially on day 2. Smooth, not complex. (959 views)
Tasted by Bob23 on 4/11/2019 & rated 89 points: Opened up nicely with some air. Black fruit, nice acidity and tannic structure, but certainly within drinking window. (1010 views)
Tasted by nisid on 4/11/2019 & rated 89 points: Easy drinking. Nice, but not quite to the level of some of Ridge's other wines. (1141 views)

Ridge

Producer website | Wikipedia

Ridge Vineyards is a California winery specializing in premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay wines. Ridge produces wine at two winery locations in northern California. The original winery facilities are located at an elevation of 2,300 feet (700 m) on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA near Cupertino, California. The other Ridge winery facilities are at Lytton Springs in the Dry Creek Valley AVA of Sonoma County.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
